it really depends on how its used u can do it annoyingly like the old ps2 game bmx xxx which thought it be good by offering videos of strippers and moves that striped ur chracter only to fail. or use it correctly like mass effect which was apart of the story or even the black coffe mod for gta which i though was extremly funny and entertaing. it can be a seeling point so long as the game isn't forcefuly based around it.

For me, sex in games is obsolete thing. I seek in rpg games things i can't/won't/shouldn't do in reality, and sex is not on this list.

Eroticism, nudity, (damn !) even perversion or such - be my guest. I'd even try flirting with gay companion (gender is not important), or play as disturbed, once gang-raped character just to see the outcome.
Sex ? Naaaaaaaaaaah. There is nothing interesting in watching rendered "dolls" humping each other, or pretending to do Kamasutra moves. After all, there are tones of porn sites.

I liked it best in Baldur's Gate II. There was nothing to see, just information about protagonist and his/her love interest finally doing "it".

Kinda surprised nobody mentioned The Witcher yet. By cleverly navigating the dialogue trees of particular ladies, you'll have the option of bedding them. A cutscene follows with some suggestive body poses, abit of moaning and groaning. Best part is that afterwards a card is displayed on screen with a depiction of the wench in question, all sexy like ofcourse. Probably to celebrate your recent "acquisition". There's seems to be no point to it all, other then to excite your more adolescent inclinations.

Also, play The Witcher, it's good.

God of War has sex minigame, but it didn't distract from the game at all.

I don't think sex in games is a selling point. But games should be responsible and make it feel like a game rather than porn (I'm looking at you the Guy Game), or take it seriously and have a significant impact on the plot (Mass Effect).

as for RPG's with sex... i seem to remember banging a drow in the underdark in Baldurs Gate 2... Someone in my party scorned me for it afterwards if i'm not mistaken. The drow sortof ordered me to do it.

Sex is to a RPG as free roaming was to Far Cry 2.

People buy the game for it but generally come out feeling unsatisfied..(e.g. the witcher)

SIDE NOTE: Not dumping on Far Cry..liked it as a game but there's only so many bloody zebras someone can kill before they go crazy!!

Yet the gaming industry still uses it as a marketing tool because it has been proven to SELL*(underline it and put it in big shiny letters) games!! (e.g. mass effect) This is mainly due to the fact that a vast majority of RPG players are adolescent boys and the gaming industry is pandering to pubescent needs of its clients.

I think the ability to have sex in games should be left entirely unmentioned except notified in the rating. As soon as you tell the world that your game will have sex in it, you've made it your selling point.

But you can't expect people to hide a fact that will push up sales.

hmmm... its kind of hard to get into characters that seem to embody male egos; its probably comparable to the feeling of going out with a girl who talks in a constant high pitched squeal and talks to you about her dog non stop.
I mean if there's nothing better sure... but hardly fantasy inducing material, and shes so dumped when lara croft returns your calls.

Gothic2 had some sort of brothel thing in it with a lame cutscene, kinda pointless really but if it helps to sell the game that's great, doesn't make the game any worse and good sales means they'll make a sequel.

And if I'm supposed to choose my character's actions, the more choices the better imo. Especially when the game involves building relationships with other characters then sex is almost to be expected as an option, otherwise it might even end up being cheesy "we're all the bestest friends" kinda way.
