So far the only one to do it tastefully.. (That is, in a way that is not WE HAVE SEX BUY OUR GAME!) is Mass Effect. You watch the characters grow and the romance is mostly a tool to further the story and the sex scene is more romantic then arousing.

But for the record it IS a good drawing tool, because about sixty, maybe seventy percent of all gamers are idiots who will throw money at anything that shows ample amounts of..

A: Tits
B: Blood
C: Bloody Tits
D: Zombies

Bloody Zombie Tits?
*drool*
why stop there? make them bloody zombie ninja tits with guns...
Imagine the hype, we'll be rich!
You are the single greatest person to ever have walked the face of the planet. Although, is it too much to ask that they're incredibly disproportionate as well? :D
Bloody zombie mega awesome super ninja tits with oil and cake on the side!!!!
FUCK. YEAH.

Sex sells. Hollywood knows it, now the gaming industry is realising it.
Mass Effect is a great example of a sex scene done right.

I think the ability to have sex in games should be left entirely unmentioned except notified in the rating. As soon as you tell the world that your game will have sex in it, you've made it your selling point.
I couldn't agree more.

I'm not against sex scenes in games, but when the developers use it as a selling point, I doubt they will do it right. I'm not interested in porn when I'm playing games, but a romance sub-plot is quite effective at drawing you in further, if you're attached to the characters. If you're not, then the whole scene should be avoidable.

I'm honestly trying to cut down on the Mass Effect fanboyism, but god damnit that game did it right.

its nice to have in a game...I suppose if done right it can have a nice sense of immersion rather than just mindless humping all in a virtual world

Big surprise here, I'll come out and say Mass Effect did the sex scene well. Probably because in order to get to it, the characters' relationship and feelings had to grow. There was a lot of buildup and characterization, and the scene itself was less gratuitous nudity and more romance. Most games don't manage to achieve this, though. Most games pander to the fantasies of pubescent boys when dealing with sex or nudity at all. As a female gamer in her twenties, this can either be laughingly naive or insultingly chauvinistic.

Obvious, but the best answer I can think of: as long as it adds something to the game. In Fable it only annoyed the crap out of me because it was far from intuitive and didn't gave any satisfaction when you succeeded.

..And that sentence definitely came out wrong.

But, to continue this post, in Fallout it added to the atmosphere of the game, in Mass Effect it made the whole love story thingy more believable, realistic if you will. So, when it fits, and it is done well: why not?

Arcanum had a brothel in the giant main town. Granted it was victorian So it was a little odd. Basically you did missions for the Madame like. ?This guy is late on his payments go get my money.? Or ?This girl left a necklace at a customer?s residence go get it back before his wife notices? When you cam back you could choose to receive money or a free stay with one of, or if you did a hard mission two of the girls. (Or a night with Belle the Sheep) After the first time to see how it works I took the money. Basically you pick one of the five girls you go back into a room and your paperdoll sprite is down to it?s underwear the girl says something to her style of whore (teach me! Teach me hard!) and then an hour of game time passes and you leave.

its a game, get over it. maybe you should stop playing it and get a life and get laid.

Sex will never be a good part of video games until people can start using the word "porn". As long as the word "pron" (or, god help me, "pr0n") propagates the internet, games developers will know they can just tack it in because people are too stupid to know the difference between sex in a story and sex for the hell of it.

I'm considering, if I ever get to make a game, having sex in it but just cutting to a free porn site and telling people to, for the love if god, go there and to come back when they want to play the game...

It was good in Mass Effect because the romance and chemistry for Shepard and Ashley felt real and the scene itself was done tastefully. Besides Ashley was more than just a generic sex symbol so it was very much a step in the right direction. Besides the sex scene was all about tenderness of love and romance, not just flat out nudity.
And... there's my double post.

Red Alert 3, i think thats the newest one, when i saw it at my friends house i was in complete shock at the main characters.
I think that must of definitely been a key selling point.

If it fits, go ahead. Mass Effect made sex in videogames look good, not in the 'aesthetically pleasing porn' way, but in a romantic light as opposed to "mount the curb and beep horn for bewbs".

Worked in Fable II due to the setting and the fact you got a child out of it which, despite myself, I got slightly endeared to as it grew up.

As far as I know, it is mostly men who make the games, so it really makes sense, especially since it seems to be mostly men who buy the games. So if women want games with love interests that interest them, I guess women would have to make games for women? So far, what the developers are doing is just good business I would assume.

Edit: Of course one could expect the developers to spend a little time including the choice of which gender you want to play as, and alter the love interest stories to fit whichever gender you chose. But I could imagine that many male developers wouldn't feel that they knew what they were doing. I don't know.

I never saw the relevance of the scene in Mass Effect, ofcourse I never actually talked to the woman, I hung out with the blue chick instead. I thought that the scene was artificial and kinda silly in imposing a choise of "who to save" on you, there should always be a third option. (Poor Edward. I had to save them both. You see, I'm both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Not because I have to be. Now... because I choose to be). But I never enjoyed black and white/KOTOR2 style good/bad morality systems either. GIVE ME SHADES OF GRAY!!!1111

Same, when I considered buying Mass Effect, I had heard of the sex scene but, honestly, didn't really care. Since I had just gotten out of an Oblivion bender, I was looking for something a little different than goblins and broadswords.
