I'm a strait male who watches tv often and I've started to get annoyed with the whole 'sex sells' method of advertising. It seems I cant go through an ads break without seeing whores next to something that has very little to do with them being there in the first place. Maybe I'm not the type of person who is easily fooled into buying stuff advertised by this method but I'm curious to know what you people think. Also it would be interesting to see what you girls think about it aswell.

I think that sex gets people paying attention, adverts convert attention into money, money buys everything including sex and therefore sex in advertising isn't going anywhere because they are two links in part of a beautiful symbiotic chain. I think that sex in advertising is therefore a good thing, and it shows that we, as a society, are headed straight for heaven.

I am a 18 year old, mostly straigth male.
I am also disgusted by the idea of sex sells, naked women, or men for that matter, modelling for glasses or cars? this i normal, this is accepted by society, yet it tells nothing of the product and instead creates a false ideal of how people should look.

Especially bad is the use of photoshoped people in comercialls, for the very reason of it giving a fake impresion of the human body. this causing eating disorder and depression is scientifically proven! And of course it's the de-feminising effects of this use of sex apeel, streanthing the old believes and ideal of the woman as an object. and not the marvelous person she often is.

The truth is much bigger than you realise, this entire post-modernistic beauty ideal is a result of pixelated comercials and ideals created by mayor corporations to sell more useless clutter. because they give you the impression "needing" their product to look the way you should, the way they have decided is the right one, and the only right one!

This should be stopped and it's up to the politicians to do something about it, unfortenally are my colleges often rather slow to embrace ideas that can be counted as rather radical, so please give them a start push. Now I am going to grab a kebab, peace out.

Its stupid, becuase its just people showing off for huge amounts of money. Same with stuff like mainstream music video and all that jazz. Then becuase of the attention they get, others sign up, and it never ends.

I'm sick of it. Firstly, it's part of a culture that tells us all sorts of horrible things about sex, beauty and gender roles.

Secondly, it's become unbelievably tacky.

Thirdly, it's lazy. Think of something funny or clever, don't just stick nekked people in.

Thankyou for creating this thread because I was thinking about making it myself. I'm a female so maybe I feel a little stronger about this as it is mostly females being shown off but it annoys me to no end. Yes, we get it, people like sex but do we really need it thrown in our faces constantly? I think it might also be a reason why kids are getting into dating and intimacy at earlier ages. It's not going to stop though, it catches peoples attention and that's that the advertisers want.

No one is trying to fool you into buying something. They are simply trying to make you take notice; so that when you're looking for a pack of gum an image of a pretty lady with sparkling white teeth will pop in your mind, and you'll reach for the Dentyne.

Hell, look a godaddy. They've got plenty of competition, but, if nothing else godaddy is the most recognizable because of their commercials.

And the whole concept of sex sells has been around since the beginning of civilization, it's not new. People who think they are above it are simply lying to themselves.

Often yes, but sometimes they are flat out trying to get you to buy something you don't need. Creating a demand has been an important part of advertising for quite a long time.

I'm a girl who likes girls, but I honestly don't notice the use of sex in advertising. Maybe I'm just not in the right place to see the ads you're seeing. I don't watch much commercial television. But, I guess either I'm totally desensitized to it and just don't recognize that it's trying to be sexy, or I find it so stupid that I can't take it seriously and hence don't bother thinking about it.

Maybe I'd have more of an opinion if I were the kind of girl who reads fashion magazines and is constantly bombarded by images of photoshopped supermodels, yeah that bombardment would probably piss me off. Likewise, if I were a teenage guy who has everything from deodorant to snacks to sodas to cars to clothes sold to him with the promise that it will get you half naked women, yeah I would probably be offended by the idea that marketers think that's all I care about, or that young guys are too dumb to resist buying anything that comes with tits. That point of view is pretty insulting.

Still, I'm currently too oblivious to pick up on it. Maybe there's way more of it in other countries than in Australia. I find that hard to believe, though; our media industry, especially the commercial free to air stations, aren't exactly a classy bunch when it comes to their programming. Although, Kerry Packer did cancel Australia's Naughtiest Home Videos less than ten miniutes into it's first episode, so maybe we're not all bad. =P

Did you either not read my post, or perhaps think I was being ironic/sarcastic? I can't quite figure out how your post relates to mine.

Nope, that's actually a case of me hitting the wrong quote button. My bad.

Edit: Actually! I know what happened.

I quoted you because I was going to say, "this." and then write my post, apparently I failed at typing "this."

I am 18 a-sex male. And I hate sex in advertising.
But problem is, that it works on the average-Joe. It get their attention. Thing I am most disgusted to see in Media now days is the fact that women are always shown to be weak sex-crazed whore. Which is wrong!!! Females are people and behave like people, sometimes they are even more human with their behavior than the testosterone filled males on the street.

What my biggest issue with "Sex-sells"? Well the fact that we can be controlled by such a primitive concept. We have the means to destroy all life on earth, but still a hot girl drinking Pepsi encapsulates our attention and makes us forget those. Every man who says "Look at that girl boobs/ass/legs/insert-what-ever-you-like!" (Or some other similar concept from other sexual orientation) to me, insults my intellect (same thing with women, I just don't know what average woman talks about men/women they like physically). I have taken it as my personal mission to not to buy anything that shamelessly uses male or female figure to sell the product. This is also the reason is stopped watching TV, I am just sick of sex being pushed towards me from everywhere.

It saddens me to look people around me and see them acting like primitive beasts. But maybe someday we will evolve bit more and realize when we look back how stupid we really were.

Note: I am not saying sexuality is bad things. Or people with sexual desires are less intellectual than others. I just do not like the way it can control peoples lives.(Due to my personal standing towards subject of sexuality)

I get the impression that they know that we know what they're doing, and so they're not being subtle anymore. Show a guy enough pictures of a can of Coke and eventually he'll want to try one.

What's weak about being a sex-crazed whore? Sex-crazed whores are routinely some of the most powerful women I've ever met.
