I don't think there is a requirement to shield the child from everything. What there should be is instilling a basic moral compass and understanding of what is and is not appropriate. A 7 year old that wants to be like mummy should be asking for a Fisher Price lightbulb oven, not a boob job. That seems to suggest a serious problem with what mummy is in the childs eyes.
good point but you raise a bad stereotype there. why cant a 7 year old girl want a toy gun because 'mummy is a soldier'?

theyre not, theyre 'youthful'. its like the whole 'small boob pornstars are too similar to kids' in reverse.
OT: but srs srs bsns now, this is terrible. i dont give a shit if you want to cake your seven year old in enough makeup to make a hooker think 'overkill' just remember: boys wont care until theyre like 12.
and that 7k boobjob? what the fuck. she might grow in big tits naturally by the time she'll be able to use it.

Honestly, this stuff disgusts me, not just mentally but actually physically. I've seen some of that "Toddlers and Tiaras" or whatever crack is on tv now, and I actually felt nauseous because of the appearance of the children (I don't know, maybe I'm just a judgmental douche but I just can't stand the look of children doused in makeup) and the attitudes of the mothers. This is spreading like an infection and it truly is sad to see these mothers project their failed dreams onto someone who can hardly reason for themselves.

Yet another example of the wonderful parenting skill of this day and age... Seriously, how stupid can people really get about raising their kids? My main question right now is where are the all the child and family service agents to get this little girl away from her mother? A cosmetic surgery procedure is not something you give as a gift to anyone! Let alone a child!

The daughter wants to be synthetically constructed human being? Kids these days... I mean when I was growing up, people just wanted to do crazy stuff and have fun with friends. -_-

I decided to make this topic after I read an article on Sarah Burge and a beauty salon specifically aimed at little girls. It's not a particularly new article and the Daily Mail isn't the world's best source but I thought it might stimulate some discussion.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2001867/Human-Barbie-Sarah-Burge-Fake-tans-little-girls-mothers.html

For those of you who won't look at the article basically this mother holds the world record for undergoing the most plastic surgery procedures (amounting to £500,000) and for her daughter's seventh birthday she gave her a £7,000 voucher for a boob job (which can only legally be used when she turns sixteen). Apparently this was exactly what the child wanted to be "just like Mummy".

It then goes on to describe the opening of a salon aimed at children in Essex which "offers fake tanning, manicures, pedicures, facials, make-up, ear piercing and hair treatments for the under-13s."

These kinds of stories seem to be an increasing phenomenon in our society (largely in the West) and the children involved appear to be getting younger and younger. Personally I find it pretty disturbing. Who is to blame? The media? Parents? I'm inclined to lean towards parents but these days it's impossible to shield your child from everything, especially the peer pressure these developments encourage.

So, what do you think? Is this a dangerous trend or is it a normal development for the next generation?
Anyone else predict before following the link that Mommy would look like a drag queen (and seriously, no offense to drag queens, especially those executive transvestites out there)?

From your response, it seems apparent that you haven't watched any of the "reality" shows about child beauty queens and their awful, awful, not-worthy-of-life parents. If you ever discover that you have swallowed some poison, I recommend that you watch one of these shows. Also if you never ever want to have a libido again.

I say we get to work on a bill. Everyone gets one free insult for parents like this, and it has to be in public or it doesn't count. Write your congressman!

I remember the first time I went to the mall and found it actually depressing. Britney Spears and all of her tart contemporaries were still relatively new, and the mall was crawling with pre-teen and younger girls dressing literally like hookers, boots and all. If I were a child molester, it would've been like heaven. Instead, it made me want to kill myself.

Also, how does Mommy know that her daughter won't have DD's by the time she's 16? Oh well, it's never to young to cement her future as a stripper/porn star/contestant for the affection of a washed up talentless ex celebrity on VH1.

I see it and think, "We say pedophiles are evil, but then some ***** turns around and ACTIVELY TRIES TO MAKE HER DAUGHTER JAIL BAIT!" I mean, I know it's not much of an excuse, but with the way everyone wigs out when a pedophile gets arrested you'd think more parents would shy away from buying their heavily underage daughter a super mini-skirt and a tube top.
There's obviously something wrong with these people, not just the pedophiles but the parents who let their daughters do these things (I'm looking at you Billy Ray) it's just fucked up.
Its about the same hypocrisy in which we find it horrifying when an older man is attracted to a young girl but no one thinks its creepy when middle-aged women want to be boned by Justin Bieber's pre-pubescent cock.

I'm somewhat curious as to the ages of all of you. You sound like disgruntled parents to me. Let them raise their kids how they want you really have no say in it. Its bound to happen eventually once people lose all these stigmas about sex. I say better sooner than later. And I'm not just talking about kids either, everything would be better if people weren't so damn puritanical and uptight.

The mothers always wanted to be whores, so they make their little girls into whores. My theory at least. Why else would they do this crap?

They are talking about kids. Children. Children should not look like whores. This has nothing to do with "stigmas about sex." Seriously, what the hell?

Things like this, as well as the subversively scary "Toddlers & Tiaras," make me fear having a daughter.
Theoretical girl - Daddy, why can't I enter the beauty pageant?
Theoretical me - Because I don't want you to grow up to be a whore.

Well, to be completely honest, not too long ago it wasn't uncommon for 12-year-olds to get married.

Still, dressing them up like so is rather... ugh.
