Nobody really seems to listen to The Outline:

Yeah, I used to be really into these stick fights, and actually, watching this again, it's still pretty cool.

It's also a shame that so few people have heard of Joe Bonamassa:

Dethklok, they're always reffered to the band in the show, even though they're and actual band; so I would call them unknown.

Speaking of which can anyone recommend me something similar to them? Their albums sound different from eachother but a band similar to either would be nice.

Oddly enough, its the same singer in both.

Surfer Blood is pretty awesome, particularly their album "Astrocoast". Sufjan Stevens is another fairly obscure artist worth checking out.

Iced Earth. They have the best singer in metal, ever.
To which singer are you referring? Because they've had several over the years.

Symphony X. I don't know many people who know them.

Krypteria. Because Nightwish and Epica seem a little more known than them.

E.S. Posthumus. They don't really do vocals but have music that has been featured in movies and the like.
There are people who haven't heard of those? Ha ha! But seriously, I have something from all of those bands/groups in my album collection. And even if you haven't heard of E.S. Posthumus, the odds are good that you've heard E.S. Posthumus, since their songs are frequently used in movie trailers.

I don't think Poets Of The Fall can really be considered obscure when anyone who's played Max Payne 2 most likely knows about them courtesy of Late Goodbye playing during the credits.

Are Celldweller obscure? Check them out anyway.
Dunno, I've certainly heard of them (and have their eponymous album in my collection), and Wikipedia says that Celldweller songs "have frequently appeared in movies, trailers, television shows, and video games", so probably not all that obscure anymore.

Let's see, for my own contribution to the topic:

  • 1. Break Of Reality - if you're familiar with (and enjoy) The Section Quartet or Apocalyptica, you'll dig this instrumental group.

    2. Raintime - an Italian death metal band with strong progressive leanings (the group formed around a mutual love of Dream Theater) that has also taken to incorporating elements of metalcore and thrash.

    3. Gravity Burn - Female-fronted hard rock band from Atlanta, I will be rather surprised if anyone else here has heard of them.

    4. Beseech - Swedish band that played, in their own words "symphonic goth metal". They've disbanded and formed several new bands, but we got a handful of albums out of them before that.

    5. Serenity - Austrian progressive power metal band that deserves to be far more widely known than they currently seem to be (Amazon can't even be arsed to put up the correct bio for them, and lumps their two albums in with one from an entirely different Serenity).

I have loads more, since most of what I listen to tends to be fairly obscure, but that'll do for now.

True, true... I didn't really want to go the 'almost guaranteed obscure' route by picking something foreign though. For instance:

It's funny how many people think that the bands they're posting are obscure. Dreamtheater is not obscure, Fall of Troy is not obscure, Dethklok is not obscure, etc etc...

Well you have to admit this thread is really for bragging rights on musical taste. The whole concept is rather silly, why does a band even have to be obscure to share them? Why can't we just share bands based on, you know, how good they are.

To quote myself in a thread that was exactly the same as this one

Mm

Obscure threads like this are pointless, the only discussion that comes out of them are mostly "Lol, I've heard of them for ages, they aren't obscure!" or "Zomg, I love that guy, have an internetz"

In almost every one of these threads that popped up I have either name dropped a bunch of local acts, uni bands that I've played in or just made stuff up. And nobody has questioned me.
and to keep with that theme

Not sure if they have been mentioned yet, but everyone needs a bit of steampunk in their lives.

I like how you think sir, the whole "obscure" thing makes it seem like more popular bands aren't worth listening to.

My favorite non-obscure bands are All That Remains, Whitechapel, Trivium, and Threat Signal. How bouts you?

Why I enjoy a good Weezer album, and yes I even liked Make Believe. [sub]except beverly hills, blegh[/sub]. Flaming Lips are also a good favorite. And more on the fringes (but still well known to anyone who has a slighty alternative taste) Neutral Milk hotel and The Pixies.

I've recently started listening to Sondre Lerche as well.

Also, I'm a ma'am.

I've actually only heard of Weezer from those bands, so either they're more obscure than you think or I have a a narrow musical vision, I'm betting on the latter.

And I refuse to call you ma'am, not because I'm a jerk, but because I hate how theres an apostrophe in the middle of the word. It bothers me and I'd rather if it didn't exist at all.

I'd be delighted to PM you youtube links or tack listings to expand your musical vision. But I would need to know extensive you'd want it
