Didn't you look at the system requirements?

How the hell didn't you notice that it said right on the requirements "DIRECT X 10"

And secondly, you haven't even played the game and as such you don't even have a real opinion of the game. You just seem to be bitching about them using the newest tools at hand to make the game the way the developers wanted.

Yes I did play the game, I played about an hour of it.

With a frame rate so bad that you couldn't have possible have gotten a real game.

No sane man that I know of could stand to play ANY GAME that is as choppy as you described it.

I think, by the definitions of what people seem to think are normal opinions, that it should be clear by now that I am completely insane. I managed to play all the way through Saints Row 2 on the PC when it was so laggy during car chases that I often had to retry them over twenty times because the good parts of it outweighed the problems.

I continued with it because of the innovative gameplay idea that I was interested in in the first place. As it turned out, the appeal of this was not enough to get over the games numerous problems so I eventually gave up on it.

This reminds me of the video of the idiot mac user who wanted to "play steam" and get the free copy of portal.
ALWAYS check the requirements, to not look at them and just think that it will work is stupid, specially if your on a laptop. Also your friend is an idiot for downloading it on XP, right there on the front of the ad, and on the steam page right next to the install button it makes it clear it needs DX10 so vista or 7.

As for graphics growing they always will, yeah many don't care about graphics and would much prefer more time and effort spent on good game play, but this is not everybody. There are a HUGE number of people who couldn't give a shit about anything unless it looked good and went pew pew. Did you see the thing about people have a cry over Alan wake cause its graphics weren't full hi-def or something, stuff you wouldn't notice until you looked at it through a microscope. Graphics will always be expanding, and there is no use bitching about it cause they aint going to stop.

I Still gotta ask though.

Why didn't you read the pre reqs?

I do that with Every Single Game I plan to buy. It's just part of the buying process for me "Can I run it, cool. I can't? Is the game so good that I'd upgrade to play it? Yes, ok lets upgrade. No? Then I'll hold off on upgrading.

And keep it in mind that lap tops are NOT gaming platforms. They can do some games sure, but don't be trying to run Crysis on it.

Innovation is nice, and it's what Shattered Horizon excels at, but if you can't even play it properly then you're not a reliable judge of a opinion. In fact your opinion is practically void as you didn't even "play" it.

oh btw OP, the 800$ was not in pounds. It was in USD.
-_-

Yes, I read that. Did you read my reply? If you did you would have noticed that I already knew what units you were using and was specifying the units I was using before I made my next statement.

I do not have a high end computer, although I do have a very good graphics card, and there is not a game out there that I can't play on the high settings. Get a new computer if it is that big of an issue. While graphics are not the main point of games, if the graphics suck so much that I am distracted by them, then I have to interest in the game.

are we talking about the same guy? he downloaded steam, and had a cry cause he thought it was just a browser, then had to go to a different website just to figure out how to hit "install game" he did get it down, but his mac was crap and it did the mac version of blue screen cause he was stupid to look at his specs, think he needed to update his drivers in the end, but he didn't figure that out.

Yeah that guy!

God he was such a fucking idiot.

Did you see the video where a guy went over his video and pointed out everything he was doing wrong, and correcting his stupidity?

Here lemme post it...

Thank god for youtube history, or else I wouldn't have found it.

Oh wait I see what you mean, what I said wasn't clear.

When he initially downloaded it, it said that the file was patching, but that was the actual download. He thought that he could download the entire game in a couple of minutes then he complained about the patches, from which was ACTUALLY the game its self.

Uh, since when can a GT 240m run Bad company 2 on highest settings without lag? Hell, a GTX 260 on the pc can just run it at 40 fps with an i7, and a GTX 260 desktop card is like 2 - 3 times more powerful than a GT 240m.

And OP, just because you can run L4D2 and Portal means shit. They run on an engine that's around 4 years old now, while Shattered Horizon runs on a benchmarking engine. It's like complaining that Crysis doesn't run smooth on your pc just because you can run L4D2. Just no. Go sob your story to someone else who actually gives a damn.

Bottom line is: you don't meet the reqs. L4D2 and SH have completely different engines, so just because one works doesn't mean the other one will automatically. Low-end users are NOT entitled to play every game there is, because gaming is a priviledge. Devs can stop making games tomorrow, and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it, so stop crying about how low-end pcs should be able to run every game. Pc gaming means med to high end machines. That's the cost of playing games on pc. Deal with it and stop QQing.
That doesn't change the fact that L4D2 and Portal still have pretty high tech graphics.
Exactly. There is a massive focus on graphics in the games industry which is driving all but the most dedicated PC gamers to the consoles.

I personally will not upgrade to anything newer for gaming until my laptop packs up and stops working. My point is that this focus on graphics means that I have very little interest in most new game releases because I'm probably not going to be able to play them, they probably will not meet my often very specific requirements and by the time they are at a reasonable price they will be about 10 years old anyway.
So your pretty much going to pass on a crap ton of games cause you computer wont run them? OK fine i have no problem with that, your choice. But don't come here to ***** about high tech specs for games that run the latest gen graphics just cause you don't want to/cant afford to/are too cheap to upgrade your gear. The industry will ALWAYS be pushing for better graphics and with better graphics comes higher tech specs.

So your mad that a game studio is trying to push forward and drop legacy support to better improve the end product and your also mad that your laptop cant run a game created by a studio that does nothing else but create graphic benchmarks?.....right....
Not the case. I am saying that over done graphics are holding the games industry back. They are taking all of the budget that could be spent on more worthwhile endeavours such as improving AI or hiring writers.

James on the other hand is fuming out of principal.
Actually the game is very innovative, the only thing that he did was presenting a new way of playing FPS wich is great. The fact that the game needs a super computer to run it does not push the game industry back. The only thing that pushes back is the amount of people that will buy the game. One thing is sure, they are giving a good product for the people who can enjoy it, its not like its just graphics.

I have no problem with graphical improvements. Yeah it could be viewed as dumb that they don't allow backwards compatibility with Dx, but in the end, you should have read the system requirements. I hope you learned your lesson.

ah yeah, i get you now. Even with the corrections there, that video makes me rage, someone that stupid should not own a computer. and someone should tell him that the internet is for me then just blogs.
