PLAY THEM.

THEY ARE FUN.

Seriously, if you can find it, get Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. Failing that, Persona 3 and/or 4. They are hard as hell, but are incredibly fun *if* you like difficult jRPGs.

YES they're my favorite RPGs!!

I have Persona 3 FES, Persona 4, and Nocturne, but I'm trying to get all the rest. I heard there is one for the DS comming in June called Devil Survivor

Probably my second favorite long running, overarching RPG series.

Personal Favorites are Digital Devil Saga 2, Persona 3, Persona 4 and SMT 3: Nocturne.

For Something like it check out the Shadow Hearts series, though that one can be very hard to find. They're Lovecraft inspired JRPG's set in the Real World with a focus on oddball humor. I quite like them.

They're very very good if your looking for a JRPG that's different from your normal garden variety JRPG.

I like "Persona 2: Eternal Punishment", "Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army" and "Maken X" (but I´m not sure if it really is part of the series).

If your curious about the games right now ?? started a Persona 4 "endurance run" and they've been posting them playing through the game 20 minutes at a time every weekday until they get bored or people stop watching. Now its one of them most watched things on their site with hundreds of people watching every day. I don't know why its so fun to watch but if you want a little preview of the game you can start there.

Edit im not sure if this breaks advertising rule so just search google for it.

SMT games released in America: Jack Bros. for the VB (so ignore that one) DemiKids Light and Dark versions for the GBA (actually ARE different games, not like pokemon versions. Much more kiddy than the other Megaten Game but enjoyable) For the PS1 you've got Persona and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. The former however has been criticised heavilly for...well...sucking. But it's being remade for the PSP this fall. Theres also Revelations: The Demon Slayer for the Gameboy Color. Not the best game but pretty good for an RPG of that era. Worth the 4 bucks you pay for it on Amazon.

Now the big ones are of course the ones on the PS2 which include SMT: Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga parts 1 and 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army (that IS the full game title and if you try to shorten it Atlus employees will hunt you down and behead you) Persona 3, along with it's hotter more experienced sister, Persona 3: FES, and finally of course Persona 4 which was whipped up so quickly after the exploding popularity of P3 that you'd think it was just a pointless copy paste to please the fans (it's not, trust me)

Also as was mentioned before we have Devil Survivor coming out in June for the Nintendo DS, which currently is my most anticipated game of the year. on May 12th you get the sequel to Devil Summoner entitled Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon (again, don't shorten it >_>) for the PS2 and as I said earlier a remake of the first Persona game for the PSP this fall.

My favorite video game of all time is Legend of Mana which is what holds the Mana series in my top 5 favorite series but SMT has a level of greatness and unique-ness to each of their games which is what grants them a shiny gold star, a round of applause and bouquet of freshly cut roses to hold the honor of my favorite series ever.

So yes, play them...they're good.

They are good.
I currently have, in order of purchase, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, Persona 4 (dropped the SMT bit apparently), and Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2.

I really want one.
They're very good time-sinks, and thoroughly enjoyable. And the characters are extremely well written which is nice.
Oh, and the voice acting is well done. Shock, horror and all that jazz. With the Persona games, especially 4, you might be a little put off by how some people act, but it's very true to Japanese culture.

No, they didn't drop the SMT. They never do. The only games that didn't have it were Jack Bros. Persona 1 and The Demon Slayer (the last two of course having the title "Revelations" back when we still weren't sure that anything Japanese could possibly be popular over here)

Ah, didn't quite mean it in the way of gone completely.
But if you look at the cover, the Persona 4 is made to stand out while the Shin Megami Tensei is away from it, and fades into the background.

Also, look at the spine of P4 as compared to P3.

I tried Digital Devil Saga 1, liked it decently well, got pretty far, but then lost interest as the combat rapidly became dull and repetitive.

Theirs A SMT MMO btw, IMAGINE Online after SMT. One of the better free mmos ive played, demons keep it fresh, burnt out after a week of straight play.
