Eber fits himself into the seat next to Akinari, giving him a quiet look. He wished he'd remembered to check on him before he'd left the dormitory building... He looked miserable.

With the student body assembled, the Principal came forward to the podium to offer condolences for the loss that Akaito High had suffered as a whole. There was a picture of her on the wall, surrounded by flowers; it looked rather hastily put together.
Seiya Hikaru, he went on to say, had the most illustrious academic career reflected in her service to the school and the community. The list of clubs she ran and volunteer groups she had captained puts a large portion of the student body to shame. He was about to honor her parents in the same respect, slightly venturing off into the topic of donations, when the door to the auditorium burst open with a singular fervor.
"Wait, please!"
Hikaru stood in the door. The auditorium burst into a confused, fearful uproar.
She looked frazzled, but was doing her best to remain composed; smoothing out her skirt, Hikaru slowly approached the stage while the masses around her whispered and pointed. She ascended the stairs neatly and took the podium from the Principal with little hesitation.
"Excuse me..." The auditorium hushed, and there was a pause before she continued, "The newscasters, and the papers... They've both acknowledged the error in their reports and have issued a retraction. ...I'm fine. But... I realize that this mistake could not have happened if I had been present on campus yesterday, or this morning. Forgive me for my lack of good judgement, and for failing to uphold my duties as a senior, and as Student Council Secretary..."
Her eyes flicked to the members of the party who were present.
"I did not intend to worry anyone..."
The principal intervened long enough to excuse himself and Hikaru; they went backstage to discuss it and the rest of the faculty hurried to close the curtain and take down the decorations and get the students under control.
Eber sat wide-eyed. "What...?"
