Isoroku came over. After screwing up with Seiya-- though he did not really think it was his fault-- he decided to let Kojiro take the lead on this one. Maybe he was too manipulative, sometimes. And yet, he couldn't think of a single thing that would have convinced Seiya to fold. At the end, though, he'd almost had her...

He looked again at a garish cardboard stand-up advertising a new computer game. He couldn't buy it. The allowance his mother provided him was generous and more than enough to buy things like ice cream, but he just wasn't budgeted to drop 6000 yen on a computer game. That son of a ***** Yamada could probably buy all the computer games he wanted. Could, because of course Yamada did not play computer games, he just studied and meditated and ran around with a spear like a goddamn backward sav--

He shook his head to clear it, and ate more ice cream.

"What?" Hikaru looked surprised by the question, "Oh, yes, thank you. I'll be fine. He was being very, ah... intense..." She glanced over her shoulder, almost expecting to see the two students behind her. "I wasn't really sure what to do with myself..."

------

Eber noticed the other boy slowing down and practically heaving and slowed his pace to match. "Akinari-kun? Are you getting tired out?"

He stopped, positively breathless. "Just...just a little." he knelled close to the ground to take in as much air as he could. "Just give me a few seconds and I'll be back on my feet. " He smiled, wondering if Eber was some German made sports machine.

Eber stood over him and considered the scene for a moment before nodding and crouching down. "Here, it will be like weight training." He gestured at him, giving an encouraging smile, "Come, get on. I will carry you."

There was no delay in his giving thanks. Akinari climbed onto Eber's back, pointing forward declaring "March!" cheerfully.

"Oof!" He stood and wobbled a bit before heading forward, jogging steadily at his friend's command. Eber chuckled, shifting his weight a bit, "You are heavier than expected..."

He brought him back around to the boys' dorms, finishing their second lap. At least the smaller boy could say he'd finished it, technically.

By the time they made it round to the dorms, he had regained a bit of energy. "You must secretly be an Oni or something, right? I don't know how you do it. Oh mighty Sensei, you must teach me how you can do these things." he dropped down to worshiped Eber jokingly. Though he did truly wish to become a better athlete at least in comparison to his friend.

Eber grinned charmingly, turning toward him, "I simply enjoy it. Though, I am built for endurance..." He winked and headed for the door, swiping his new key card multiple times before it worked. "You are leaner... Quicker, too. You are likely to best me in many areas."

"I may be quick, but I still need endurance. Especially for the swim team. I guess I should be ok with Baseball. I could swim for fifteen minutes and be tired for the rest of the day." he laughed at himself and then at Eber when his key card refused to work. Akinari needlessly wiped his brow; the sweat on it had dried. "Any requests for tomorrow? Lunch I mean. It's a short day so I can probably just make lunch after school if you don't mind waiting a few extra minutes."

"Whatever you like is fine. I ought to learn to like it anyway, if I am to be eating so much of it. Is that not true?" Eber pulled his hooded sweatshirt off to mop his face with it, looking around to see if anything interesting is going on in the common room tonight, or at least to check for Isoroku and Kojiro. "I do not mind waiting. It is better than eating alone."

"Alright, I see what I can come up with. It shouldn't be too hard to think up something. I hate to repeat a theme twice in the same week. I'll have to come find you when it's all done..." Akinari blinked hard, poking at Eber's stomach. "YOU ARE AN ONI! I KNEW IT!" He continued to invade the German's personal bubble. For all anyone knew, Akinari had never heard of the phrase 'Personal space'.

Eber made a surprised noise in the back of his throat and what seemed like a muffled giggle, slapping his hand away, "Cut it out, Aki, you are making people stare..." He screwed up the other boy's hair in retaliation and started up the stairs.

"They can't help it. You're so...you're foreign, they'd stare anyway!" he got one last poke in to be satisfied. Akinari was tempted to throw a handful of coins at him to see if they really did bounce, but as he had no loose change on him, he could not.

"Oh yeah, where room are you in? I have to get your lunch to you tomorrow, oh no, wait, I guess the common room makes sense too, huh?"

"I am in 317..." He stopped on the steps, turning back toward him, "But why do I not give you my mobile number? Do you have a pen?"

"Uh..." Akinari pat his sides and found nothing. But, they were standing around in the common room, so after a bit of searching he located a pen and a strip of paper he probably shouldn't have ripped. "I do now." He took down the number and wrote his on the other half of the paper. "That's mine." he beamed. "And now I have to go wash off the stink of the day before the room smells like a gym."

Eber laughed. "As you like..." He glanced at the spare scrap of paper, disinterested in it. Instead he took Aki's hand palm-up and used the pen to scribble his number down on his skin. "There. Somewhere you will not lose it. See you after class tomorrow, Akinari-kun." He pocketed the other slip and went up the second flight to his room.

He felt uncomfortable bothering her after what just occurred but at the same time decided it may be his best chance to say anything. He tried to chose his words carefully and maintain a very level voice. "What was it that he wanted from you anyway?"

He stifled a laugh, the pen tickled his hand.

He had almost forgot that the number was on his hand by the time he got into his room. Akinari had already made it to the bathroom to shower. He hurried back out and punched the number into his phone before heading back to cleanse.

Hikaru blushed out of the embarrassment of having to lie. "He, um, wanted to take the exams to join third year studies. I insisted it was a little too advanced for him still... Perhaps I should have been more considerate..." She glanced aside at him to see how he was taking the story.

------

Eber washed as well, did part of his homework before shoving it away in boredom, and flopped down on his bed to watch a little TV, his phone next to him in case the others decided to call and let him know about their field trip last night...

He stared at her for a long moment, waiting to see if she'd add something about the other things they'd been discussing, but realized soon enough that that explanation wasn't going to come. Then his brain caught up with the rest of the conversation and he stared at her. "Wait...Yoshida wants to advance? Even if he is top of the class right now he can't do that." He was aggravated at the mere suggestion that the other boy may have the chance to advance before him.
