So, I just want to talk to those of us who have played a lot of FPS or TPS games in there time.

My basis for this is on that I have played a lot of shooters in my time:

Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Fallout 3
Fallout: New Vegas
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Star Wars: Battlefront
Star Wars: Battlefront 2
Resident Evil 5
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo: ODST
Halo: Reach
Call of Duty: World at War
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2
Half Life 2: Episode 1
Half Life 2: Episode 2
Battlefield: Bad Company
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Battlefield 1942
Gears of War
Gears of War 2
inFamous
Medal of Honor
SOCOM: Confrontation
Red Dead: Redemption
Bioshock
Bioshock 2
MAG
Red Faction: Guerrilla
FarCry 2
Wanted: Weapons of Fate
Mercenaries 2
Unreal Tournament 3
Warhawk
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Eat Lead
Armored Core 4
Armored Core 2
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands
Dead Space
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
Just Cause 2

Now, to anyone who can match that kind of shooter gaming and is still has CoD or Halo as their favorite (or close) shooter: Why? What is seriously so good about this series after playing so much else in the genre?

(Also: Please spoil a good list of games if you respond. Don't be a schmuck. I listed about 50ish games I have thoroughly played, if you can't get close to that your not what I'm looking for.)

I've played way too many games to count, and on CoD specifically, i've played and finished all of them, but after blops i'm not a fan anymore, i've played and finished the first 3 halos but only because a friend wanted me to play, I never really liked them.

Wait, I'm supposed to give you 50 or so examples of FPS Games that I've played in order to prove I'm a shooter veteran?

And people happen to have different opinions. Different folks for different strokes.

Your telling me. I only liked Halo 2 when it came out. The rest I played because everyone was. CoD I never got into. (Plus that was just the shooters. I couldn't count all the games I played. Its hard enough to just remember all the different consoles I have played on. @_@ )

I've played WAAAAAAAAAAY more shooters than you if you count things like Red Faction as a shooter in this regard. And only got out of my PS1/PS2 JRPG-only fanboy diapers about 5 years ago.

I just like them both. Halo and CoD.

Not my favorite shooters ever, but in the entirety of both franchises combined the only game I don't like is Call of Duty 1.

The gameplay is polished to a shine in both series, and does whatever it sets out to do very well. Don't like what they set out to do? Fine. But what they do, they do well. The campaigns don't push the genre forward (not even CoD4, really) in story-telling or anything. But they entertain like a mindless action movie. And both offer an intense challenge on their higher difficulties.

There is no way I am writing down all the shooters I played. You will just have to trust me on this: I have played A LOT.

I still enjoy Halo very much. The story is what brings me back to each new installment. As for COD, meh. Could do without it.

I consider Call Of Duty 4 to be the best single player campaign I've ever played. This is the sum total of its game play, story, story presentation, etc. Other games have done individual elements better, but the none have managed to deliver the total package in my opinion.

Modern Warfare 2... not so much, although as a series of set pieces, it was highly effective despite a really poor narrative running through it.

My FPS resume:

Doom I, II, & III
Deus Ex I & II
Serious Sam: First & Second Encounter, and II
Unreal I & II
Unreal Tournament 1, 2.5, and 3
Half-Life 1, 2, Episodes 1 & 2
Thief I & II
Quake I, II, & III
Call Of Duty I, II, III, IV, and VI
Requiem: Avenging Angel
SiN, Wages Of SiN, and SiN Episode I
Duke Nukem 3D
Shadow Warrior
Blood I & II
Fallout 3 & New Vegas
Far Cry I (PC)
Bioshock I & II
Quantum Of Solace
Mirror's Edge
Portal I
Dark Forces I & II and Jedi Knight II and Jedi Academy

and I'm probably forgetting a dozen or so

Armored core is a shooter? It's a good series, don't get me wrong, but the game aims for you unless you use rockets.

My, that is a very impressive set of games, I tip my hat to you sir, or judging by my avatar should that be helm?

Anyway, unfortunately, much as I would love to show off some of my games, I really have played too many to recount, hmm, I probably could just take a photo, ah we'll work around it.

Call Of Duty never was a favourite to begin with, although I enjoyed 2 a great deal, sorry but my shooter side is promised to the fair Battlefield. I have only played occassional snatches of Halo 1 and 2, to be honest it never really grabbed my attention enough.

So you've played Mercenaries 2 but not the first?

I don't know what to say about that, judging by your post you just seem to be showing off and saying that you're a superior shooter player and how your opinion is more valid than others based solely on the fact that you have played a good amount of shooters.

Who cares about skill? I'm pretty good at both Halo and CoD... Why do I keep playing them?

'Cause they're god damn fun.

Halo's universe is my favorite fictional universe of all time, so I absolutely adore the campaigns, and both Modern Warfare campaigns are like 24 on crack, so they're a blast.

As for the multiplayer, I give the same reason- they're god damn fun.

And I'm not going to give you some list. Let me put it this way- I played Halo 2 back in the day with Final Boss. I wasn't good up until Reach, but now I'm sometimes better than a friend who was on par with those guys. Not many of you may get that, but if you do, you know what I'm talking about.

Oh, also...

Call of Duty sucks and so does Halo.

You aren't a shooter "veteran" if you play those games.
No matter for how long...
If all you're going to do is come in here and insult two insanely popular series that are already constantly bombarded for no reason... leave. Just... seriously. Leave. We don't care if you don't consider those games of skill (which, by the way, you're wrong). So please... leave.

I been playing since Wolfenstien, Doom, Quake days.

And honestly the best FPS were the jedi knight games since you could have more out of a opponent than basic guns. The force really added a edge to keeping the game fresh.

Halo is eh, Black ops, no...

COD, is eh... the unlockables get old after a time.

Games I've played (These are just the ones I remember or currently own)

Mass Effect 1
Mass Effect 2
Just Cause 2
Call Of Duty: Black Ops
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Call Of Duty: Big Red One
Medal Of Honor: Airborne
Deus Ex
Half-Life
Left 4 Dead 2
Borderlands
007: Golden Eye
M.A.G
Bioshock
F.E.A.R 2
Fracture
Red Dead Redemption
Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Gears Of War 2
Halo ODST
Halo Reach
America's Army
Warrock

I find that I do somewhat enjoy the Call Of Duty franchise, though I don't find much enjoyment from games like Halo (Halo seems too arcadish for my taste). I personally enjoy more realistic shooting games, yet the closest game I have ever played was "America's Army" on PC. I really did enjoy AA as it had some realistic features such as gun jamming or having to slowly load the grenade launcher or change out the silencer (Same with using a bi-pod). It was a well done shooter that made even several bullets fatal, and wounds required a medic to treat (To apply for being a Medic, you had to watch 20min of video and take 3 tests to QUALIFY to be accepted to even pick that class during a match. They did the same with most other classes as well).

Metro 2033
Bioshock
Battlefield 2142
Shattered Horizon
The Darkness
Mirror's Edge
Fallout 3

And some more.

If you truly "don't care", then don't reply. I think that both Call of Duty AND Halo suck. And nobody is going to change my mind about that one way or another...

No one cares.

This thread was made to ask people why they like it. Not why they don't.

Obviously YOU care, because you keep replying.

Just because a games has shooting in it I don't think it is instantly considered a "Shooter". "Shooter" implies that the primary focus of the game is on shooting stuff, and thats about it. i.e. inFamous and Red Faction would hardly be shooters.
