This is breaking news, just happened less then 20 minutes ago. A shooting has taken place in a Texas College. No reports of deaths yet but numerous injuries are confirmed.

This is just staggering. How a nation can tolerate this bullshit with such an obvious reason is mindboggling.

By "obvious reason" I'm certain you are referring to the media's macabre fascination with shootings and spree killers and how we turn them into celebrities?

How else are people supposed to get famous if they have no talent whatsoever?

Besides join up with 5 friends to make a boyband.

Interesting; here is some info since the OP didn't really link anything.
Yahoo! News said:
At least two people were shot at Lone Star College in Texas on Tuesday, according to local news reports.

An alert posted on the school's website warned students to take shelter.

"LSC-North Harris is locked down," the alert read. "Students, faculty and staff are advised to take immediate shelter where you are. Do not enter the campus until notified further."

Aerial footage showed SWAT team members evacuating students several buildings on the campus in North Harris County near Houston.

A female student told KTRK-TV heard five shots fired in an area between the library and the cafeteria. Other students say they heard gunshots when they were in cafeteria.

I hope those who were hurt a quick recovery and safety to the other students. Nothing else to say at this point as not much as known.

Why do I dread the idea that these shootings happen because the shooters were "inspired" by the previous incidents? It's interesting how it only happens in 'murica as well.

Oh US, now you're just being ridiculous. Seems like they don't even wait for the last one to end before starting the next. Maybe the NRA was right all along, at this rate schools will be empty before any regulations are through!

Posting a warning on their website? I'm not sure how effective that can be...

Also, Lone Star College?

And just when the gun control threads were starting to die down, another shooting happens.

Well hopefully those who were shot both survive and recover fully.

Maybe the shooter was Lonestar's former roommate... or something.

You posted this thread in the Off-topic. You can fucking keep it. Seriously, don't move it to R&P. Don't. It is not needed, and it is not wanted, especially not after the inevitable Gun-control derailing will set in.

OT: I heard that the average school-shooting deaths are 20 per year in the US. If so, then we haven't hit the cap yet. That means that while this is sad and abhorrent, and my feelings go out to the victims and families, it's also fully expected. Without any form of change in culture or legislation (security, mental health-care, etc) all I can say is 'Carry on'.

Edit: If ABC is to be believed, then the average is 21.3 per year, if we measure by the last 15 years. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2007/09/us-school-shoot/

This is what happens when you constantly sensationalise this big shooting incidents in the media, you get imitation from others desperate for attention.

You can pretty much put money on it at this point. And it'll only stop once the media stops putting such a spotlight on the shooters.

Btw, if I come back to this thread after school is over to find that it's turned into a gun control yelling match, I'll be very disappointed.

And this is exactly why this is starting to happen more often. Publicity. Copycats. Hell they are American, there is a certain level of doing it better than the other as well. It still isn't about gun control. This is about mental health, and the rampant state of it in America.

Not even surprised. America shooting itself into oblivion, Texas too, where the governor believes that women seeking abortions should be shot.

Can America really call itself a civilised, responsible nation when their schools are becoming battlegrounds?

No offense, but that last line sounded more like beat poetry than anything.

If that isn't hyperbole, I don't know what is.

I'm willing to bet 99.9% of students in America will never witness a school shooting. I'd hardly consider that a battleground.
