On another note, a lot of people say they've completed the game in about 40 to 60 hours (everything included).

I complete the game (everything included as well) in 26 hours, at best.

I'm sorry if I'm beating the dead horse here but I didn't bother to read past this, because I was LOOKING for this response. I was surprised it took so long.

Yeah those people suck. I can pull a full completion in between 15 and 18 hours without breaking a sweat.

It took me an alarmingly long time to finish Portal (me not spatial awareness very good) so that one isn't it for me.

Max Payne 2 springs to mind though. I remember finishing that game in two sittings. I also remember being pissed off about that.

I would have to say Unreal Tournament 2K4 and Halflife 2 ep1
those would of been soo much better if they were longer

As far as serious games go? Luigi's Mansion, I finished that in about three hours on my first go, that was extremely disappointing considering that it was the big launch title for the GameCube.

can beat it in about 3 hrs 4 if you play on seccond to most difficult setting. most difficult setting is actually impossible, it tells you that before you start

I banged through the original Katamari Damacy in a day and through We Love Katamari in a weekend.

Final Fantasy IV (FF2 on the SNES) fell in under 24 hours, which made me feel like I'd been slighted a bit, since it wasn't often back in the day I could beat a JRPG in a school week. I've beaten that game in one sitting more than once.

And of course, there's Super Mario Bros., the best 30 minutes you can have on an NES (assuming you don't warp, in which case it's more like five minutes.)

Myst. Took a while the first time, but once finished (or cheated) you know the ridiculously small number of steps it takes to go from the start screen to the end, bypassing all the puzzles in a minute or so. Possibly the least satisfying speed run ever.

Soldier of Fortune: Payback. It's also probably the most dissapointing game I've ever played. I loved the first two, and was very worried when I found out Raven wasn't making the third one. I rented it, the gameplay was a step behind the first game in the series, and I finished it in a good three hours. When it got to the end I was waiting for the next mission to start, then the credits rolled. Waited over five years for that sequel, and in the end I felt like I had gotten herpes from it.

Define "short". Most of the old NES titles could be beaten in under 45 minutes if you played them perfectly. It's just that they weren't very forgiving if you didn't play them perfectly. I could beat Atari's ET in about 4 or 5 minutes if I wasn't trying for a high score, but no one else seems to be able to beat it because they can't figure out what to do.

Shortest modern gen game? Heavenly Sword.

I tried palying that, and I fell in a hole and couldn't figure out what to do

Portal. beat it in about two hours one morning. Some of the best 2 hours of my life. The game is great to the point where it's ridiculous.
