I would like a Majora's mask movie... but i worry at what damage they could do to it.

No thanks. The whole feel would be ruined in order to suit the unwashed masses.
Elitist much?

Cough find something better to be elitist about cough.

It's just a game (series) and while it certainly has some redeeming points, it's not exactly doing something new in regards to fantasy and fiction and story telling in general. Can't say much about gameplay, I haven't played enough games that came out at the same time as the older Zelda games, so maybe they have some technical advantage over those. I doubt it.
Not really relevant to the OP's topic, so make sure not to trip on your hypocrisy on the way out.

Probably not. Because even if they did it RIGHT (which is unlikely,) it would either have to be shortened down to the extreme or be split up into a trilogy or something. A tv show or animated series that follows the games might work though.

They already did.....

You had until DEC 31 2009 to view it before Nintendo took it off the internet callded "The Hero of Time"

This is why we have a Zelda Fan Group here, we get this information: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Zelda-Fan-Club

Here's the article about it being put up and shut down: http://www.thesacredrealm.net/main.php?page=fanmovie.html

[HEADING=1]LOOK HERE[/HEADING]

I put that since this was on the front of the Escapist still, but apparently, IM INVISIBLE

A movie? no

Now a live action tv show yes.

I just don't see how a movie could be able to pull off the different temples that Link has to go through to collect the magical macguffin.

Good to know, brah. It's relevant enough to the subject of Zelda, and I was responding to a post that harbors a lot of feelings commonly associated with gamers - not to say "fanboys" - defending their game of choice too hard at which point it become absolute elitism.

Seems pretty relevant to me!

Either way, you might be interested in reading about a good third of all the responses in this thread and attacking them, as well.

Pretty much anything can be reduced to that with enough effort.

Bioshock, no matter how good, didn't exactly do something that original. There were plenty of faerie tales and science fiction concerned with hidden societies, underwater or otherwise, and people generally getting in trouble in there.

Although, yes, Bioshock would make a great movie if done well.

My post seems a little harsh in hindsight, just meant to point out that what you may view as sarcastic wit others see as snide elitism.

No. Part of the problem with turning games into movies is that movies are 2 hours long and games much more than that. You have to compress it so much that you often lose a lot of the experience. That and Link's been a silent protagonist since the 80's. It would be a pain to make a movie with a silent protagonist, and giving him a voice and dialogue now would be weird. He kind of doesn't have a personality. I don't think people would ever be satisfied with whatever voice or personality he was given. That said, Twilight Princess might work out better than most others because he spends a lot of time as an animal and it has cool visuals. It would be interesting to see what a competent director would do with it.

honestly as long as it was a long ass movie i think they could do it just fine, there is more than enough action in the games, good plot, and you already have your main characters set up nicely, so they might have to cut out a bit..but i think it could work quite well.

im willing to give it a chance, im not gonna let nostalgia and elitism cry out in fear of it being bad, which now a days with alot of things getting better in the movie industry, i think it could turn out pretty good

oh and link does tons of grunting and "HUWAHH?!" in the games so technically he isn't silent at all, i heard a billion grunts from him rolling around all over the place with him

When it comes to games that (at least traditionally) have a less than realistic look, say make an animated movie if you feel the need to. Although I have not seen them, I tend to think the animated Halo movies were a better choice than a 300+ million dollar live action.

Make a Zelda game in the spirit and quality of Advent Children? Sounds good. Anything else, I'll pass.

I'm torn here: I only played two Zelda games, and both of those were godawful, so I hate to imagine what kind of cinematic abortion they would inspire; but on the other hand, my inner troll is cackling with delight over how much FAN RAEG a bad Zelda film would inspire.

But then again, I couldn't care less about that label; so my opinion isn't strong one way or another.

Considering the success rate of video game to movie adaptations, I'm going to have to say no. Besides I hardly think Nintendo's going to make that mistake again.

If I were to pick and choose, I'd say that the Anju/Kafei subplot together with the main storyline would the most interesting; seeing as they were actually worth the time and effort. Also, they include the most "ploty" elements, as long as they use the gameplay largely as the storyboard.
