Should Amnesia be released on consoles?

I'll be honest, I didn't think the Dark Souls petition would ever work. I never would have thought a publisher would be swayed by a petition. But now a PC release seems inevitable which has got me thinking...

Ever since it was first teased I've wanted to play the Amnesia games but can't since there's no way it could run on my modest little netbook. So I've been thinking about starting to petition to see if we can't get Frictional Games (And THQ) to release a port of the first game on XBLA (PSN is a long shot unless they get another company to port the game) for $15-20. Seems like a perfect fit to me and it's been shown that weird, experimental games like Limbo and Journey can be successful on consoles. Plus if it's a success, maybe Frictional will release a port of the sequel as well.

But beyond myself and a few other people I'm really not sure if a lot of people are really clamoring for the game to be released on consoles. I'm trying to feel this out before I go and start drafting up a petition.

So if they released Amnesia on consoles, would you buy it?

If it does come to consoles, I may consider buying it. From the looks of some of the videos I watched it does seem rather scary. But I can't play it on this lap top. At least I'm pretty sure I can't.

I wouldn't because while atmospheric I don't think it's that good a game for reasons I've gotten into before. I already own it, played it, went "meh" and that's it.

To be honest an Amnesia port for the consoles would be fairly easy because the controls are pretty simple, and the graphics while decent don't exactly set new standards.

It could be done, but I'm not sure what kind of audience it would have given it's age and how spoilered it was. It's also one of those games where you can get the same basic experience out of a "Let's play" of it as playing it because it's fairly straightforward and linear, with little in the way of actual variation.

That's what I think at any rate.

Well I wouldn?t buy it since I don?t have a console and I already have it on the PC. It would be great if it did come to the console but I don?t see that happening since the studio that made it is very small.

The devs seem pretty married to the PC. They could have hired another company to make a port for the consoles, but instead they decided to commission a spinoff PC game (A Machine for Pigs). Why would such a tiny developer risk spending a bunch of money on something that might well flop in the console market?

Well considering the response this thread got I guess I shouldn't bother.

Goddamn useless console players.

Actaully i don't think it would do well for consoles because of the "Hold one button and drag the mouse to move it" aspect. Especially when you have to quickly turn around and close the door behind you, it's not going to be easy to do that on a control, and probably just feel akward. Now i'm not an experienced console player, but if i was playing on the Xbox, i wouldn't find it easy to turn the camera around, stop and hold "A" on the door, and then swing it closed before i have to turn the camera around again run.

Hell yes. The devs of Amnesia (at least I think it's them) are making a game called "War Machine for Pigs" or something. Anyway it looks sweet and if we get Amnesia on consoles (which looks sweet also) we might get every game they make over here.

Releasing Amnesia to consoles would significantly increase the amount of new controllers purchased.

I had to buy a new mouse since I got scare so much that I threw it agains a wall :).

Now seriously - yeah, it's a good game, it should be released to other platforms.

All PC only games should be released on the consoles and all console exclusive games should be on the PC.

Exclusivity is bullshit.

Unless you some small indie company and cant afford it or something put your shit on everything.

I guess I could see this working out. It isn't like the controls for Amnesia are anything resembling "complex," so you could fit the control scheme into an average controller with little problem. I think what worries me about this is that the port might lose some of the atmosphere along the way thanks to having to shoehorn the game into a console format.

I don't see why it couldn't work on consoles, the controls would be simple enough to port over and the visuals aren't anything special really. Consoles should be able to handle it just fine.

Pretty sure the thing that holds developers like Frictional Games back however is just a matter of time and money.

Well, it could go Elder Scrolls style, and just make it to where you only have to tuirn around and hit A for it to close.

Iv'e had trouble with those damned things in the past. Constantly closing and opening wildly, and sometimes not opening at all.

It would work, it would just need to be tweaked for the controls. The game is good enough that it should do reasonably well if released on consoles. It's definitely a breath of fresh air in terms of the horror genre that's been pretty stale the last decade.

Captcha: Spy or Die. Seems about right considering the game.

Considering how every downloadable game I'm aware of that was on a console was almost instantly outsold on the PC once ported, I don't see how this would be a good idea financially.

What are your system specs?
RAM: 4.00 GB

Processor: Pentium (R)Dual Core CPU T4500 @2.30 GHz 2.30 2.30 GHz

That's what I got from right clicking on "computer" and clicking properties.

Beyond that, all I know is that this laptop is good enough to run TF2, but the last time I played it it had trouble running even that at a decent framerate. So I don't think it can handle a more modern game.
