Spoiler Warnings For DA:O
I tried using the search bar, and couldn't find any previous threads that seemed to address what I wanted to discuss.

When I finished Dragon Age Origins, I felt satisfied, like that was all I needed from this particular story. The Blight was ended, the world at peace. Of course maybe that's just because I chose to sacrifice my own life, to save the king and the world. (I'm not going to let some evil witch raise my devil-god-thing child just to save my own hide.)

Anyway, I rather hoped that the Dragon Age franchise would become more akin to say, the Elder Scrolls. With sequels taking place in the same universe, but at different times, possibly in different geographical locations. This would allow Bioware to have as many different endings, without fear of trying to fit them all into a sequel.

Am I the only one who felt this way?

Sounds like a good idea. I can imagine there would be problems in particular areas however, for instance, whether in your story Alistair became king or not, and all the little details. There would have to be an established cannon so that references to them can be made in the sequal.

no, it certainly shouldn't. It should have certain elements, like Grey Wardens, Archdemons, Darkspawn, Mabari Warhounds.. It can also have characters that could tell interesting stories on their own.. references to king alistair, or morrigan's baby

but it certainly doesn't need to follow the story of the warden from DAO.

In fact, I doubt it will be DAO2, it'll be DA: something else.

Origins was meant to be just that, an introduction to the setting.

If they could link the two stories together properly then YES, they should! I want to find out more about the world in Dragon Age at that specific time, also my character ended up being king, which could be a plus.

I just want my warden to make sweet love to Morrigan again.
That is all. D:

EDIT: Looking forward to Awakening though... Or is it already out? I haven't been paying much attention.

As long as they keep making Dragon Age games I will be happy, I won't mind if they follow on or start fresh tbh, as long as (as Altorin says) it contains key elements that we expect of it now!

I think it should involve Morrigan somehow, but that's really all I want to keep from DA:O. I mean, it'd be nice to carry over my Warden from the first, but I could just remake them in the character creator and pretend if I really want.

Oh, and by 'involve Morrigan' I mean "Let me kill her at some point."

I want to visit Orlais! Forget Ferelden with its muddy fields and horrible shoes, lets go to beautiful Orlais!
A direct sequel wouldn't be a bad idea, what with the matter of a certain women's child...

Well he might not want to considering that it's his kid.

Yeah, I made him marry Anora and then boink Morrigan for kicks and giggles.

What? I wasn't going to cheat on Leliana, even if I had modded Morrigan's face so she was actually somewhat attractive.

I approve of this and the often poorly done fake French accents which are never-the-less adorable to listen to.

And it's (obviously) overwhelming smell of wet dog....... Apparently they must know nothing of dogs in Orlais (either that or Ferelden needs to bathe it's dogs once in a while)

He would so kill her, did you not see the look on the poor man's face when she 'performed', her ritual, traumatised, dude, seriously! And Anora would back him (so would I, as Queen of Ferelden, since I married him..)

No, it should not.

Considering the amount of possible outcomes for various quests, either the events of the previous game would have to be ignored (would piss a lot of people off) or they'd have to have only a minimal influence on the second game (would also piss a lot of people off).

There's plenty of rrom in both the space and time of Thedas for the franchise to spread its wings, tell new and fres stories and not be encumbered by the demand for perfect continuity. Awakening will continue from DA:O, and I assume that any other potential expansions will do the same.

However, when Dragon Age 2 comes, I hope it's only minimally related to the first game. More creative freedom that way.

There was another thread that touched on some of the issues why then next DA would be difficult as a direct sequel. I think it was the article about Oghren being in Awakenings. It doesn't duplicate this thread, but some people mentioned some things I hadn't even thought about.

If you think about it, there are only two characters who cannot die in DA. Oghren (and now it totally makes sense to me that he is the character they brought back for the expansion) and Morrigan. Everyone else at some point or another can be killed. That would make it extremely difficult to have a sequel that featured them in any way.

That being said, I think they could easily reference some things. But a direct sequel would be a programming nightmare. Personally, I think that is why they included the epilogue, to kind of complete the story. Some of those epilogue stories go quite a ways into the future.

I think I might like to see some of the other areas. Antiva would be really interesting; the whole city is supposedly run by the Crows. It would make for a great setting, with or without the darkspawn. Grey Wardens are obviously awesome, and it would be great to include them, but they'll have to keep coming up with reasons to bring back the darkspawn for the Grey Wardens to have much influence on the plot of the next game. Supposedly, blights only happen once every few hundred years. Okay, and now I'm admitting to knowing far to much about the DA universe. I'm off before I out myself any further!

Maybe the Grey Wardens should busy themselves with other problems rather than sit on their ass waiting for the next blight, Jeez, talk about
''Is it a blight?'',
''Well no.... but'',
''Oh, sorry, not our problem then, love to help, love to, but our hands are tied''....... ;-)

Haven't Bioware already said it will take place a few hundred years later?
