its not really worth getting.

Its pretty, yes, but it gets repetitive very fast, and the open world has nothing to do in it except drive and get shot at.

I love it, and for a very specific reason.
It has an upfront political agenda.
And I respect that.
It's a very nihilistic experience, and the repetitious nature of the assigned missions simply help to enhance that feeling of utter futility.
So; if you like to get some "ism" with your shooters -- buy it.
If you prefer the vacuous and inane kind -- get the inferiour original.

Yes, it's a great game. I really enjoyed it, I don't know what everyone else seemed to dislike about it, but I actually enjoyed it more than Fallout 3. Maybe not as much as Crysis though.

Far Cry 2 is only 20 bucks at some local store I go to, so I don't know if I should go get it or not. IDK anything about the game, so can you give me some headsup about it?
Give it a try, maybe rent it?, I got it for £9.99 in the sale brand new!, thats like $12 in real money, or 6 Billion Zimbabwean dollars ...

chortle chortle, I'm so funny.

One reason I loved it is the buddies...

They come to your rescue, and when they die... its difficult...

I had to give Josip a morphine overdose to kill him because he was too badly wounded, and I had to shoot Frank in the head because I didn't have any syrettes ... it felt like I'd murdered my own brothers.

Case in point.
Any game which is capable of producing that kind of emotional response is a very worthy piece in my book.

Yeah I enjoyed it.
I also got it for $20, and I'd say it's worth that price.
Not to much more then that, though.

The multiplayer sucks, so throw that out the window.
But the single player was fun enough to keep me until the end, which took a while.
Some parts are indeed frustrating, like the guard posts, but soon you'll learn how to use the bus-routes to get to certain areas while avoiding the majority of posts, and where you can cut corners to avoid the rest. The AI can be a bit 'unfair', so as soon as you can, grab the stealth suit, the silenced MP5, and a decent shotgun. You'll be fine.

So, so bad.

The AI is just annoying as all fuck, the missions are just plain boring and repetitive and the damn location of the missions is just stupid. For e.g., I had to drive halfway across the map for every mission that was given to me. No biggie, but when you're attacked by some assholes every 10 seconds it becomes a fucking chore to get from point A to point B.

It's quite a brave in what it is trying to show you and make you feel. There are things in Far Cry 2 that you can't quite experience in any other game or if you can than it isn't quite as strong. It's clever in it's own way, in the way it tries to entertain but also be kind of relevant and mean something.

But I find myself wishing that it could be a bit more brave and challenge some bigger issues and concepts and a bit more intelligent as far as it's story telling is concerned, the ending in particular. It's definitely worth it and if you've read a Heart of Darkness or seen Apocalypse Now the ending is actually pretty cool, kind of similar to seeing Take2's take on Objectivism in Bioshock.

You have to have some insane suspension of disbelief. A realistic game this is not as far as game play is concerned but that isn't a bad thing. The missions can be repetitive so I advise mixing em up, do a main mission and then weapon shop and then a weapon shop mission and then go explore and then go much around and the maybe a radio tower assassination and then go do the free DLC mission which have you find the tapes left by the man you replace and then go and do another main mission, or don't. Yeah, driving around and killing guys does get repetitive and it does show in this game as compared to other games in which the repetition is masked but if you play it casually that shouldn't be a problem.

So yeah, go get it. You wont play another like it for good or ill and I figure that something like that warrants a $20 bill. It's just 20 bucks, that's like a movie and popcorn? You'd get more entertainment out of this.

I found the AI fair, during the day they can spot you as well as you can spot them, I think the reason people claim the AI to be unfair is they drive around really fast making lots of noise.

During the night its easier to stealth but they are more alert to sounds, the incidental chatter you hear when picking off mercs is brilliant too...

I always pick Marty or Warren Clyde as my characters, since they are my favourite characters and I do not want to kill them under any circumstances. Strange that, I've loaded the game a few times but never finish it.

Maybe because I don't want it to end.

Uh, well the ending was good.

But it TOO realistic while also giving godmode to the A.I, but I always did the mission at night...and snuck pass guards.

Know what? Fuck it, don't play it.

I picked up this game for 5 bucks around thanksgiving and haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm looking forward to it though because this game seems to divide people in a fairly interesting way, honestly. We're pretty polarized over it.

It's worth $20. Just as a head's up, Yahtzee's review pretty much nailed all the annoying parts, so you should know what you're getting yourself into.

NO NO NO NO NO NO wait a sec...
Only get it if you're willing to endure tedious missions, no fast travel, impossible achievements/ trophies (if you're into that) and overall not a satisfactory experience. But, it does have a pretty badass map editor, so that's entertaining.

Worth twenty bucks, but I gave up halfway. Really fun for crawling around the jungle, but other than that and the fire mechanics, not very entertaining.

Far Cry 2 review:

Drive for 20 minutes with people shooting at me.

Get mission. Drive 20 minutes to destination.

Enjoy 5 minutes of pretty good shooty fun.

Spent another 20 minutes going back to safehouse to save.

20 minutes driving to a guy get next mission.

20 minutes driving to mission, then 10 extra minutes driving to buddy helping with mission.

Repeat this 40 times.

I'm not even exaggerating.

The game has it's moments but a plethora of design choices left me (and many others) wondering who in the hell thought the mechanic might be fun. Being forced to do side quests for quinine tablets, having to stop at checkpoints every 40 seconds to gun down the guards and other problems simply get in the way of all the things the game does well. It's worthy of playing for at least a few hours at any rate, and for some, the problems did little to detract from the game. If one can acquire the game for less than 20 bucks, I'd say it might be worthwhile, especially during the summer months when there's nothing else to play anyhow.
