Should I leave my job?

I've been working at a gas station of a company I will not name for almost 4 months now. The first month it was a really nice job, not extremely well payed but I live with my parents so I don't really have to pay for a flat or food. Anyway, as I said first month it was a really good job. My boss was good and helpful, workmates were nice and friendly and overall it was a nice job experience. But 3 months ago a new "boss" came to us and instantly everything went down the shitter.

Not only is this boss annoying, and ungrateful for everything we do. She also considers herself a master of "mobbing" her employees. And I really mean it, in 3 months our scores fell down badly (we were one of the top stations in the region and now we are one of the worst) and both me and my co-workers are just tired and pissed off about what's going on. I'm considering leaving the job but my family suggests that I should at least start looking for a new job first and than "maybe" leave. Quite frankly I don't want to. After what has been going on for the last 3 months I'm mentally and physically exhausted.
Literally I feel like shit. When I started the job I felt good when I was going there to work, I knew like today I was going to earn myself some money, but now... now I just don't care.

As an example of what kind of person my boss is let's say this little story from yesterday/this morning (night shift). We got a huge delivery at about 2AM (Me and my co-worker). And by huge I mean HUGE, like at least 2 times too big for our magazine. We had to work our asses off for 5 hours carrying lot's of heavy stuff which would normally not be necessary. Why was it necessary? Because our boss decided that we need a HUGE delivery in case WW3 happens or something, I don't know... even the delivery guy was surprised as to how much stuff we got. After we were finished we were tied but had the feeling of a job well done. Than out of nowhere (at 7am) came our boss.
First thing I hear? "Why the fuck are the toilets not clean?!" (and I DID clean them) "What the fuck were you doing all night? Get to work", than I pointed out at what we did and said that I'm going home cause my shift ends at 7am "You are not going anywhere until you do this this and this" (about 2 hours of work and I was already after a 12 hour shift). Than I just couldn't hold it any longer. I literally exploded in front of my boss throwing curse words I didn't even know existed and getting myself to the edge of crying (and I'm not a person who just bursts out crying whenever I hurt my pinky). And I got out of there as soon as I could.

This thing made me realise what wreck of a person I have became, exhausted, easily annoyed and probably depressed.

I want to quit. Only I don't know if I really should. Getting a job is not really easy nowadays and this one pays well for my needs.
I just... I just don't know if I'm just overreacting or do I have serious reasons to leave.

Please help guys

PS. It's not like it's my first job. It's just the first one that caused such... "feelings" in me, literally I never wanted to punch somebody so hard as my boss now.

Is there anyone above them?
Sounds like all the workers should get together and report them.

Quit.

Its much easier than it sounds, and you WILL find a better job. Just think of how you found that one in the first place.

It isnt worth fretting over.
Think of it this way: If you quit, your getting payback because then they need a new employee, and they likely will have trouble finding one in a hurry

Best of luck making the right decision.

Find a new job first. You may regret quitting later when you're broke.

Is there any kind of formal complaints thing you can submit about your boss? If there is, find out if your co-workers will support you, and do that.

If not, look for another job. But don't quit the one you have until you find something else. Getting a job nowadays isn't easy, and even doing something you hate is probably better than having no work at all.

Just quit. Get yourself out of their asap, and go somewhere you can feel good about what you do. Then you can start feeling good about yourself too (in case you aren't at the moment) but at least others will begin to notice that you are no longer exhausted (emotionally and physically). No amount of emotional and physical stress is worth a paypacket, in my opinion.

Fuck your boss, go somewhere where your abilities are respected. Even if it means you're out of work for the next month or so, you'll feel a lot better and be a better person for it.

EDIT: But don't burn your bridges prematurely or without good reason. Ask your boss real nice for a letter of referal/reference for your resume that you can use when you go job hunting if you think thats possible.

Don't ever just quit. I can't stand when people just want to quit because their job sucks. You know what looks bad on a resume? "I was at a job for four months but the boss was a dill-hole so I quit!". I have a buddy who just walked out on his call center job last December. He just got a new job last month. In today's economy, most employers don't accept "dill-hole boss" as a respectable reason for quitting when they've got twenty other just as qualified people gunning for that job.

And hell, if you're working in retail, then with Christmas coming up you should be able to get a new job right away. You can take the chance and quit now and hope that the black mark I mentioned above doesn't kill a job offering but that just seems highly unnecessary to take such drastic steps because your boss is not appreciative.

Building off of what was said here, I recently quit a shitty job for a shitty company. I had been there for a 1 1/2 years, I became complacent and indulged in the bullshit politics I had to endure. After giving my 2 weeks notice with no job, I found a better one with better pay within the 2 weeks. In fact I now have 2 jobs haha. Complacency never helps! Good luck!

Thanks all of you for your support. I just made a call and I in fact DO have a back up job for the time being. So today I'm going to proudly say "fuck you" to my dear a-hole boss

I've worked at 5 different places before and left them all merely in search of a better payed job (or in two cases because the company bankrupted ;P). I have a proper resume from all of them so a little black mark from a gas station shouldn't hurt me all that much. And if it does... well than I will just work harder to get a better job, that's just how life works I guess.

man up, if you going to be pushed around by your boss and all you do is complain to your co workers nothing will ever change.
tell her that you cant accept this middleschool bully behavior.
but remember not to complaine in a childish matter, tell her acctual an factual things that you cant accept and by doing so you might get som respect from your boss or you will loose your job
as loong as you dont loose your own self respect

I did. That's what annoyed me the most, I had quite a few calm discussions (at least on my side) about "what's wrong", but it didn't seem to do anything. And in fact we filed an official complaint but it also didn't seem to do anything. That's pretty much the main reason why I will quit today.

Bad idea, if you're being literal. You never know when that sort of behaviour could come back to bite you.

Oh well you know I didn't really mean that ;P. That was sort of a metaphor.

I'd find a new job first. Better to be safe than sorry I guess. If you can, maybe try to talk to the guys above the new boss and see if they can do something about it. Or maybe get together with the other workers and try to talk to her about it.

Last option I have is chainsword to the face but I think we should try to leave that one out if we can.

Well what i would do i cronfron the boss complain like hell to her and say that you'll quit if things don't change and i it was me i would have my co-workers join and/or go on strike (maybe).
But i feel really sorry for you man and i hope things do get better one way or another.

I seriously, highly recommend finding another job before you quit.
That always seemed to work in my favor, and made everything a lot smoother.
But then again, that's still just me.lol

But if you do plan to quit anyway, more power to you. No one deserves to be treated that way, by anyone.

Hold your head up high, quit,(don't shiv anyone) and report back! Good luck to you! ^_^
