I am a huge fan of BioWare. To me, there is no equal when it comes to developing RPGs. (Get outta here Bethesda fans!) However, the reason I'm even contemplating is because I've already learned the game's biggest twist.

You are Revan

There's also the problem that I'm a total graphics whore. Okay okay, I could've found a better word but the point is this game is about seven years old. I could barely stand Oblivion's graphics. I probably won't let something as trivial as the graphics let me stop from playing a BioWare game, but I might get bored of it halfway.

EDIT: Sorry about the "Poll:" thing. I was actually pissed at a few users for writing "Poll:" and not actually having a poll. Turns out that it's actually a bug. Nothing new..

You SHOULD play KOTOR, because it is a fantastic RPG, however, since you already know the twist ending and are a "graphics whore", you probably won't play it. I weep for you "graphics whores"

I say go for it i never liked rpg's but KOTOR changed that for me, in retrospect its a bit cliche'd and obvious with the twist but considering that even i knew the twist it still caught me out first time i played it, the way it was carried out was quite awesome. Plus HK-47 and Canderous Ordo alone makes the game worth playing and buying the sequel for if you can find a copy for a reasonable price it took me a month to find a decent copy cheaply. over all it does mix rpg elements and story well and moves fast enough to keep you intersted though i wish they used the equipment layout and weapon modification system of the sequel.

It can be fun. The game is buggy as hell on PC, and I wouldn't suggest patching the game if you have Vista. Taris, the opening part, is pretty boring because you don't have force powers at the time. The graphics actually look okay at the highest settings, but every character has the same tic when they speak, and some characters have voices that make you want to murder them.

You should not play Kotor 1. In all honesty... the type of person you make yourself out to be, I think it would bore you.
No-one can fault you for not liking Oblivion though. That game was the pits.

I already said I was thinking about it. I'll play it no matter what. I guess the thread is phrased incorrectly. It's supposed to be a question of if I will get bored of it or not. But no matter. Thanks for the replies. That'll be enough for me to go get a copy. And if I like it, maybe KOTOR2 too. I know the second one's by Obsidian. But I've heard that they're vastly different, is that true?

I vote NO.

I tried to do what your talking about, play through KOTOR for my first time, a few weeks ago.

I failed because the combat is simply put terrible. It's like a really shitty MMO, where you just left click an enemy and your avatar slowly walks over to the badguy and does all the fighting for you. It's insanely boring.

I love a good storyline, and I could get over the dated graphics, but gameplay that bad is unforgivable.

Some people like the story more. It is a bit more gritty. The bugs and cut ending are the biggest turn-offs; if you're going to play it, download a restoration mod.

If you are worried about it not being fun because the twist is ruined, play the second one.

Godofallu, that's how RPG's work. You click on someone, and imaginary dice roll happens, and you see the results. It's an electronic version of Dungeons and Dragons, but simplified. Anyway, the attack animations are pretty cool, and fights benefit with strategy rather than point-and-click.

---------------

Also, there are some mods for oblivion that make the game look as good as modern videogames. I believe there's even a mod that adds custom shaders, meaning you can have a storybook looking oblivion if you wish.

If you really are as much of a "graphics whore" as you claim, then I feel pity for you. People shouldn't need pretty graphics to enjoy something. That's why we have books; we obviously don't need a giant monitor to achieve enjoyment.

Knights of The Old Republic was my first RPG. And it was got me really started as a serious gamer. The sequel was...ok, but didn't have the charm the first one did. get it. and grab KoTOR 2 as well. just be careful, 'cause the games can be tempermental at times.

To me, KoTOR 2 isn't worth it. Instead, read the let's play on the let's play archives, because it does a much better job making the game sound enjoyable.

it sucks you know the twist...thats what made the game so golden when i first played it. but overall its still a good game and when you run everything on the highest setting its seriously way better than oblivion imo, so that should help for your "graphics whore" part.

overall its a really enjoyable game, if you like other bioware games there is no way you wont like this one, i've beaten it a good 50 times and still coming back for more with different mods.

Yeah, that LP was pretty entertaining.

Anyway, I loved KOTOR, great story, especially if you like Star Wars. Some great characters, and interesting quests too. I suggest avoiding the second one though, it's a mess. Unfinished, buggy and there is no plot resolution at the end at all. If you want to get it, download the restoration mod so that at least some of the content returns.
