Personally I wouldn't because it's incredibly expensive and think it's very boring.

But download and try the free trial they have to see if you think it's worth it. I can't make the decision for you.

Ok dude you need a decision....no don't play WoW, A) kills any chance of having a normal social life, and more importantly means you'll never get laid again, B) You will lose your job if you have one, get fat, lose your house/apartment maybe (and if so start living on the streets as a homless alcholic), or just spend every waking moment eating/playing WoW, then eventually die alone....not that I've ever played it

It's not incredibly expensive. It costs some money but 13 € a month isn't what I call "incredibly expensive".

The free trial isn't really that good of a solution because honestly the game first starts to kick in when you are 80. Also the first like 20 levels are really boring and don't really show you how the game feels like.

The best way to know if you like it is to play a lvl 80 char for a week or so. Maybe one of your friends has one and he gives you the username and password.

WoW is fun but they butcher it up constantly, the game is totally unbalanced right now and will no doubt annoy you constantly depending on how and where you play, so its fun endgame when oyur higher and sucks when your trying to get there, work at it and youll have fun, till then you MUST SUFFER!!!

Give the trial a go, if you don't like it after you get to level 10 maybe 20 then it isn't your thing but there are more fun things to do as you level up i found, the instances become more fun i found.
edit: also i would start before cataclysm because you can then see the transformation of azeroth. I can't wait for the new expansion.

It's not totally unbalanced right now. Except for the Tankadin everything is pretty balanced.

Look at the other WoW thread that's up now where the dude (gal?) has played a year - yes, that's the equivalent of 8 hours a day for three years, or 4 hours a day for six years, every single day - and think real long and hard whether a game is worth that.

That's enough time to get a college degree, to put up a business, to get a black belt in a martial art, to play hundreds of other games, or to become totally kick-ass in several games where skill actually matters. In WoW, what does it give you? Some guildmates you've never seen IRL, and a set of epic gear that goes obsolete the second Blizzard puts out another expansion.

Go ahead, but if I were you, I would go play on a private server, no fees at all.

The funny thing is, I've actually done every single thing you just listed while playing WoW at the same time. And yes, I have met a few of my guild mates IRL.

run, take your life and run, because WOW will suck your life out your ass and use it to lubricate it's giant life sucking machine

As a warrior with 36.6k unbuffed health and a terribad guild full of fucking idiots that still somehow managed to clear ToC and I'm supposed to be main tanking/leading the heroic raids that we start next week,

I am going to tell you right now:
NO.

People don't joke about it being a second job, especially if you're a fucking raider, especially if you're a dedicated, skilled, intelligent raider, especially if you need to manage your guild, manage events, keep people up to date with their equipment, class lead, raid lead when the GM isn't there, etc...

But leveling up with a friend is fun. :)

No, it costs too much. Try Guild Wars. It's free to play after purchase and not much worse. But it comes down to what you like, I guess.

Please don't. The Blizzard of lore would care for it's customers, but since Activision took over we've seen LAN be extracted from Starcraft 2, and I shudder to think what other nonsense they'll try and pull on us. I say play a different MMO and force Blizzard to put out an actual new game, rather than just expand on something that came out when I was in middle school (I'm in college now). WoW is a functional, fun MMO, but the genre has evolved since it was released.

I'm all for paying for a game that I'm going to enjoy, but paying MONTHLY for a game in order to enjoy it... personally I'd save your money. In say, 10 years you'd spend paying out a boatload of cash to play it, you could probably buy a second hand car or something.
