I think we should go the way of Hungary. Catalogue all real names that are in use, excluding nouns (older names like Faith/Hope/etc discluded, maybe). Make them into a list. Tell parents, "You have to name your kid something on this list," but if they want to name them something else they can request that a name be added to the list. So none of this bullshit naming your kid Je T'aime (why would you name your kid "I love you"? Why?) or the like.

Honestly, were it not such a weird name, I would name a hypothetical female child of mine "Europa". But that name has kinda been stolen by the moon of Jupiter.
Oh no, the name Faith stays. Not keeping it would be an insult to an awesome character played by an even more awesome actress (who Joss Whedon likes enough to make another show on Fox just so she can finish her contract with them).
Oops, guess I was failing at english there. I meant that those kinds of names would be on "the list". I do not know what I was thinking when I wrote that.

My name is terrible. Im changing in bout 5 months.
Adam Hasan Dik
Imagine the shit I got to deal with over the last 18 years?
I challenge you all to make up an insult I hadnt heard before.

In any case, even after i found out Dik for the turkish means Upright and I should hold it with honour, i dont live in a turkish culture, nor speak that language, or live in that world.
So I've almost had 2 decades worth of shit and I dont want anymore.
I like that other law I saw around this thread that stated that the parent cant name a kid something that'll bring significant inconvenience...like 20 years of bullying.

By the way, the bullying never stopped - but rather they stopped doing it within earshot and they never followed through on their threats when word of Dragon Kung Fu spread round.

I'm sure that there is someone out there with the name Abcd (pronounced ab-see-dee)...

Oh and I have a friend who wants to call their child Chlamydia, but they have enough sense not to

No because I understand the subjectiveness(not a word, probably) of what counts as a stupid or horrendous name but I understand why somebody would want it illegal. I mean wouldn't you want your parents punished for giving you a name that will definitely get you picked on.

I once saw on Yahoo answers, some girl was asking if the name 'klamydia' was a nice name for her new baby girl. I'm just sad I didn't know her address to call social services.
