Should they remake FF7?

I don't think the limit breaks work very well at all, especially for vincent.
Anyway, I think the game would lose a lot of it's charm if they made the graphics better.

Meh, if they ever did I wouldn't buy it.
To me FFX was the best in the series which is apperntly suprising as FFVII was the first game I ever played ever. I think FFVII is overrated but still a good game.

I think if they didn't just remade it but mixed some stuff up besides adding new graphics that would help make the remake not suck, as much as we badly want it. To give a few examples...

First up, there's the story. The spin-offs have really expanded things and offered alternate explanations for some events and such, so it would be good if perhaps they integrated some of it into the remake. No need to rehash the entire plots of some of the prequel games for sure, but it would help. The new visuals would also help better convey some parts of the story, specifically giving us better body language in cutscenes so the dialog may work better. Better introducing characters when they fist appear also helps since I've always felt a few of them, like the Turks for example, weren't introduced well.

The second thing would be the inventory. VII's inventory holds up okay, but perhaps better integrating materia with gear. I don't know if I can really be clear on this but I'll try: it felt like you had the potential to make crappier gear better with some later materia like Defense Plus and such, but the constant slot limit was also always an issue. Bangles in particular I'd like to see get reworked a bit, maybe even make it so its possible to add more slots and such to them (it being easier for bangles than weapons, if only possible with them) for a cost, then focus on bangles acting as stat boosts of different kinds so the player must balance materia with the type of bonus the bangle gives, slots being all up to the cost. I can easily see how this idea can backfire though, I just really would like to see an inventory shake-up if the remake does someday happen.

The last thing would probably be scrapping the submarine, and I know that'll probably annoy some fans. The fact is, I kept running into Emerald Weapon way too much, and the section felt hard to navigate. Needing to use it to progress the story frustrated me immensely. I am probably alone in this, but I just feel since the submarine went 3D in Final Fantasy (granted I think the only other FF game to have a sub before VII was V) it just felt like a detriment to exploration. I'd probably just move the underwater bonus stuff to new islands.

Some other minor bits would just be things like making it easier to get back to Fort Condor for the battles, not make Yuffie and Vincent such a pain to get (I didn't like the idea of hidden party members in this game honestly, though it worked fine in VI due to its nature), maybe have the house you can buy at that one costal town be useful for more than just sleeping. I really do think the remake could work, but it wouldn't be easy. I do think the ATB system could still work, though I would consider perhaps doing something more like the Persona 4 combat system.

I realized something: Final Fantasy 7 WOULD SUCK IF THEY REMADE IT!

Yeah, that's right. It would not live up to our memories or expectations.
I agree with you on your result but how you get there isn't right.
Let's look at the battle system. It's the Active Time Battle system. It would not work in a modern day game. Yes, it worked in every Final Fantasy up to 9
It also work in the Persona Series that still ongoing. It's also in Blue Dragon, Dragon Warrior series (the new ones also) And a more Arcade version in the Star Ocean Series, Grandia series and the Tales. See also, people mostly complain that the Battle system was lame in 12 and got even worst in 13. In that regard, it principally took control from your hand. I'll say that they never made it better than the Active Time Battle. As for standard, well it's pretty much standard for other and newer series so i don't see how you get to that conclusion.

The Overworld map. When's the last time we saw one of those? Been a while. Do you really miss it? How much different was FF12 or FF13? At least, their worlds were consistent.
And small. The problem with Overworld map is that you have a sense of traveling, of being on the road. When you compare it to 12 or 13, the world seem small in comparison. You don't get the sense that the place are far and few between, like if the characters could save the world if they stop dispensing with melodrama every alternative step.
What about Cid and Barret? Will they still be allowed to cuss? And smoke? If they aren't would the fans complain? Honestly, I would. Those aspects were part of what made them who they were.

Who likes Cait Sith? Actually, we could just lose him. Let him take the blade for Aeris.
For Cid and Barret? One acronym. GTA

And second: Cait Sith is actually useful to the plot in two time. First, He's the one that complete the puzzle inside the Ancient temple since it require a sacrifice and he's just a robot doll. Second, he actually help them in Shinra's Tower toward the end. Aeris MUST die because if you didn't get that hammered that soul go back to the planet, you got a problem. Also, the Holy spell MUST be brought to the planet. If you put that together, it mean that while the caster is chanting, she must be kill so the spell reach the planet. Ergo, she has to die.

No the reason why it shouldn't be made is because the story is horrible, dumb and ludicrously bad. Here's some food for thought:

- Sephiroth sole motivation is a Oedipus complex that could be resolve with Vincent having a talk with him.
- Sephiroth himself ruined his plan by killing Aeris. If he hasn't done that, there would be no Holy to stop him.
- Cloud fake memories have no sense in the game context.
- Shooting at the Tiny Bronco when he take off was the stupidest move if you wanted to get that plane.
- Yuffie was accepted back in the group after she stole all your materia. Who would be stupid enough to do that.
- If Tifa was struck with Sephiroth blade after she was push only a feet away, she should have died since his blade is 7 foot tall.
- Who would be dumb enough to put a ladder in his death trap (except for Don Corneo)
- How Come the five guy in the Pagoda tower could change into monster while there's no Materia that exist for it. It also extand to Vincent. Even if the Cell change, there's no way that it can change his mass all of a sudden.

I really don't care that much one way or the other. I don't have any PS consoles, used to, but I don't now. It was a decent game, but I probably won't ever play it again. That's life for you.

Im on the fence here. It would be nice, but also it might tarnish one of my all time favourite games if they altered it any other way other than graphically. Also, i think Square should UN MERGE with Enix. While they were still Square (or Squaresoft) the games were brilliant- But post merging, all they make now is... stuff nowhere near as good...

I wouldn't mind a remake, and I'd certainly buy it, but I don't think it's strictly necessary. I also think as long as they can milk it for all it's worth, they will only tease a release.

Final Fantasy needs to stay where the fuck it is... on the old playstation.

Too often, I see people line up just to get on their knees and open wide for the flashy garbage that is final fantasty 7. Too many people around my county consider that one game to be "GOD OF ALL VIDEO GAMES, AND SHOULD BE THE ASPIRATION OF EVERY FUTURE RPG EVER".

Too often do we hear "its called final fantasy, right? Why doesn't it end at the first one?" Don't bother with that parallel universe garbage because each and every parallel universe practicly rips off the previous blatantly, weather it's the job class system, materia/magic, etc, and chocobos. The people at SquareEnix have run out of ideas, much to the point where names of main characters are now non-human names(who seriously would name their child snow or lightning?)

Besides, the last thing I need is a FF7 remake coming out and hearing every douchebag in my neighborhood creaming themselves over the devolution of the gaming society

Let's be honest if anyone can find the graphical limits of a console its Square.

You had load times in FF7 on the PSone? No offense, but what was wrong with your PSone? I never had load times in FF7. Not noticeable "Your game is loading" time anyway.

For the record IF they did remake FF7, I would buy it. If only to see the new graphics, what they added and what they changed.
You're right about this, FFVII was a particular good exercise in the art of hiding load times. However, there was still that awkward pause when calling up the menu screen, or when moving from location to location. The screen would go dark, you'd hear the music for the next location (if it was different from the location you'd just left), and then, a couple of seconds later, the screen would fade back in.

Not nearly as bad as other PSOne games, sure, but still an instance of load time.

Mediocre game gets fancy new paint job.

Doesn't change what the core of it is.

If FF7 got 'remade', it'd more or less need to be a reboot.
That was some pretty hard trolling right up front.

OT: No. It would end up if they tried to remake ghostbusters (the first one).

I was going to say something of note, but then I read the topic and the replies and... no, I just can't do it. Arguing about this game at this point feels equivalent to debating who's funnier; Dane Cook or Charlie Chaplin. I look forward to the day when we can simply appreciate the past, enjoy the present, and look forward to the future in all things.

No.
a flat simple No. if people want to play the game. DL it on PSN or go hunting for it. Maybe some of the younger gamers will understand the whole concept of story over graphics and wont rush to the next prettiest POS that is released
