Well, Uncharted Waters Online used to be a good way to be a pirate or a merchant etc, but then the dev team went stupid and screwed the game up with a utterly useless pay to win system.

Wasn't the naval combat in Ass Creed 3 real good? Good enough to make people think, "I really wish this was a full on pirate game"? I would play the Hell out of a game like that. Yes, there should be more pirate games but I don't think the RPG route would be the best route outside of ship building/upgrading.

After a little looking around, the Pirates of the Carribean game is what I was talking about in the original post, may have to dig it out and play it again.

I don't really care about pirates as such but a game with actual involved wind and sail mechanics is what i want. Sid Meier's Pirates! was cool because it did actually incorporate wind and the rig wasn't just there for aesthetics. Ass Creeds naval combat looked cool but was far too simplified.

Honestly, Sid Meier's did pretty much everything right, it's just that nothing it did was overly complex, the game didn't have a whole lot of depth. Flesh the world out a bit more, expand the cities, make them more unique and not carbon-copies of each other with slightly modified numbers, make the political relations between the various factions/pirates etc more intricate, create a more in-depth economy, deeper crew/fleet management. Basically re-make Sid Meier's, do everything that did but expanded upon and i'll be happy.

Sly Cooper 3 had a section where you are controlling a pirate ship. Now that was a lot of fun!
