Out of curiosity, why would they?

If they make it so you can murder children, their game will get a higher rating,
I assume you mean content rating? What's so bad about child murder? It's just like killing an adult, only they're shorter. Plus, in video games such as Prototype or Fallout 3, it seems odd that everyone is liable to dying as long as they're an adult.

In Fallout 3 you can kill the weak and elderly, enslave people (including children), take missions to kill people due to bigoted ideas (ghouls are bad), and there is even an entire city run by children who will shoot you at the slightest of provocations. It is nothing short of stupid not to let you kill children with all that going on in the game.

i think the reason everybody is so sensetive about this topic is that children are seen as innocent, defenceless people and therefore do not deserve to die. but does the granny in gta deserve to die? nope, but its still fun to see them tumble over ur car at rediculously high speeds. i think that people should be able to put whatever they want in a game, but they should be rated accordingly.
and somebody said before that some games punish you harshly for killing kids (i think the example was fallout 2) and i think thats what games should do, especially if they are trying to be realistic. its like in gta if you kill a random pedestrian, 1 star, kill them infront of a cop, 2 or 3 stars, if u kill a cop, 3 stars. it should go on so that if u kill a kid on purpose, 3 stars instantly. then when you are driving around like a spastic u will deliverately swerve to avoid prams and such. after all, why kill a kid when for the same ammount of stars you can kill a crapload of adults?
its all about choice in the game, what you want to do. and we should have the choice to buy the game if we want to.

Two words: Little Lamplight. I want to hunt every single one of them down with a flamethrower. Well, except that Nuka Cola kid, Knock Knock and Knick Knack. They aren't as retarded.

Well, at least bioshock let us do terrible things to little girls.

Although im not sure why everyone wants to kill kids in games so much, its hardly going to be a huge part of gameplay and I doubt it will contribute anything anyway.

Well about the rating is true. Allowing children to be killed will often result in a raise of the age rating, and that hurts sales (because the game gets sold in less places). The games that allow children to be maimed/killed are often games with a high rating anyways- so they have nothing to loose really.

Blame the PEGI and ESRB.

I really don't see the point of killing kids, but developers should be able to do what they want with their game without all the controversy. Of course, some people absolutely live to complain about stuff, so that won't happen. The solution of removing kids from games that you don't want them to die in is good, though I would understand if some games still retain invincibility for children. Yes, we know that murder is bad. A bunch of people play mature games on a regular basis, but realize that a game is a game. Children should be nowhere near the game in the first place, so the complaints about "poisoning their minds" would be stupid in a sensible world. Too bad this world isn't very sensible sometimes.

Of course you should be able to. If it's a game where you can murder everyone else, then you should be able to kill kids too.

Not really, the idea is just plain wrong, but I wouldn't be suprised if GTA were the first to implement this.

In Canis Canem Edit you could beat the living shit out of most kids.
yeah but you just end up knocking them out for a little bit

and this game actually works the opposite way as kids can get beaten up but adults and older kids are invincible

I guess if you want. I personally don't care as I never try killing kids (shows you have some problems if you do doesn't it?). Either way if they let you kill games, the rating would go through the roof and it'll end up being an AO game.
It does NOT show that you have problems if you attack kids in a video game. Killing an unarmed person when you have a gun is the same no matter what age they are.

I really want to stay away from the whole question of if people's actions in a videogame encourage similar actions in RL so I'll just say that in the interests of total freedom they should allow you to. Especially if it is a shooter anyway, or like Fallout 3, allows other behaviours which are, some would say, equally evil.

Either way, it'd boost the rating up to an adult's only meaning a vast majority of stores would not carry the game.

I would really say no to this. It would be a step towards banning violent videogames, don't you think people?
I like my violent videogames, and would hope that designers would not allow hurting/killing children in videogames.
