Nope. PSN is free, so you didn't pay money for a service you are being denied access to. Sony doesn't owe its customers anything but apologies, and since it is Sony, that's all their customers will get.

Part marks. Xbox Live GOLD is paid for. Xbox Live in general is free for anyone. Gold is comparable PSN Plus.
That's why only Xbox Live Gold members deserve some kind of reimbursement if Xbox Live goes down on such a massive scale as PSN has.
...Wait, did you just say that Gold is comparable to PS+?
The only similarity between them is that you pay to access them. Beyond that, they're extremely different. Different enough that PS+ members don't deserve compensation for this outage either. All PS+ does is give you discounts on the Playstation Store, update your console when you're not around to do it yourself, and use the cloud for saves. Accessing the Playstation Store is a basic free feature for everyone, so you aren't losing anything other people don't have there. Firmware and game updates are a basic free feature for everyone, so you aren't losing anything other people don't have there either. And the cloud; it's free users who should be compensated there as the cloud should be for everyone (that or Sony should take away bullshit copy protection on saves so that free people can back up ALL of their saves and be able to restore them to a new console if needed). But anyway, the cloud is just one of multiple ways to back up save games, so because you aren't completely barred from backing up your saves while PSN is down, no compensation is needed for that either.

PS+ and DCUO aren't free, whould you want some compensation if you were in the pub club and the escapist went down?
DCUO players do deserve some kind of compensation though. They're paying a fee to access a game that they can no longer access. As for your Pub Club comparison, no I would not want some compensation if The Escapist went down. Pub Club is like PS+ (except Pub Club is a good deal and PS+ is not); it's just bonus features on top of the basic service. Example, the site goes down; I can't watch videos in high def with no ads, but nobody can watch any videos anyway. I lost the same thing as free members; why should I be compensated? Same with PS+: you can't access the store, but neither can all the free guys.

But it was a selling point. There'd really be no reason to complain about it if you're not PSN+, but I remember seeing it mentioned in an ad, on the box, or on a physical ad. I can't remember which since it's been a while.
When they remove Playstation Network as a feature, then this is an argument that will get you somewhere. But right now it's just down.
Oh, and if Sony ever did take away PSN, don't expect much to happen in your favor. Look at the poor guys who bought it for Install Other OS which was also a selling point. Sony took that away and they are all screwed.
