Well honestly, I think it should depend if you have a PS+ membership or not. If you don't, you don't get compensated for the 3 days, because obviously, you're not paying for the service (like myself, though considering getting PS+ eventually).

If you DO have PS+, I think you should get an extra free PSN game that's published by Sony.

It's only fair
Well, that's stupid... if you paid for your ps3 you have paid for the psn service and Sony are expected to keep it working. No matter whether you have ps+ or not you have still paid for the online service.
It's easy to think that, and I understand the point of view. However, Sony doesn't force you to make a PSN account, therefore it's unknown whether some people are using the services provided. You believe that my cousin, who doesn't use PSN or even have a PSN account should be compensated for something he doesn't use? I don't believe he should, why spend money on someone who doesn't even know what you gave him?

Business wise, you would be spending untold millions compensating 100% of the PSN user base, whether they use the services or not. Or you could save roughly 80-90% of those costs by only catering to the loyal customers that volunteer to pay for the same services but with some minor bonuses. Sit back and think about it, you'd make that decision too..

But, this is all unlikely. As much as I love Sony products, I/WE all know too well that it's unlikely that we're getting anything out of this. Sony will give us nothing in return but a explaination for the outage, leave it at that, and continue on like nothing has happened. And if someone starts shit up about it, they probably have their asses covered in those Terms & Agreements that most of us agree to blindly.

Not saying it's right. But it's business.

Well, I didn't really say that I think that everyone should be compensated. But still, I have paid for a service that I didn't get access to, so I have the right to be pissed (even though I almost never use PSN)! xD

its 12:08 AM Sunday im very tired but i had a idea for a thread bare with me.

Due to the PSN being down for 3 days or less.

i was thinking Should we be given something as compensation?

and what do you think we should be given.

I would say yes depending on the compensation. I would like a Persona 3 and 4 for PS3 just so i can play it

Don't think so?

But that'd be totally different anyway. LIVE: Paid for

PSN: Free.
Yes that did happen, but as stated the difference being as stated that Live is a paid for service. When it goes down for an extended period Live users have suffered some kind of loss which MS wanted to provide compensation for.

PSN is a free to use service, users have suffered no loss thus Sony has nothing to attempt to repay (though in fairness they could offer something to PSN+ users who have now suffered a loss)

yup EVERY single user, something tells me that doesn't work somewhere.

no they should not, your point is?
My point is if you pay for somthing monthly and it dies out for unknown reasons for an unexspected amount of time wouldnt you want compensation for it?
no, I have a sub to an SOE (sony) mmo and when that was down for a week we didn't get anything nor did I want anything (apart from answers).

I have enough sense to know things happen
thats an mmo, mmos go down all the time for alot of reasons, but if an mmo went down what do you do? Play another game. But when a sever goes down like psn or xbl you cant just say well ima play a different online game then, you play a game for what the game provides and that entertainment, you buy the system for all the sevice it provides that includes the online part. There a difference between an mmo compiared to a gaming system.

PSN allows a system where it is F2P online.
They shouldn't need to hand out a reward.
EDIT: The first quote: Exaggeration for effect. Don't think he meant everyone would log on, seems like you're fishing for reasons to say he's wrong

I was originally going to say "we don't pay for it, thus there is nothing to compensate for" but then I realized that doesn't matter. What matters is what the players expect. If people are actually going to leave PSN (I don't know how, selling their PS3 or something) because they are upset by the lack of compensation, then it would be in Sony's best interest to give them some compensation.

I'm not saying I agree with these people's feelings, but feelings don't matter; if Sony needs to do something to not lose customers, it would be a wise move to do it.

That said, I wouldn't mind a little something nice for my.....uh, troubles......but if I don't get it, I'll shrug it off with no care at all.

I doubt they will, but maybe PS+ users will get compensated. If you bought the year, you paid $4 a month, so maybe they'll give you the valued $1.50-$2.00 you lost being a PS+ member, assuming it gets back up in the next week. If it goes on too much longer maybe they'll give PS+ members a free month. I doubt free users will get anything though.

Remember the extra few hundred we paid for this console? Free online my ass. Besides, Sony loses money and customers over this and would compensate players to try and lessen the negative effect of this outage. I'm not saying we need compensation, and im fine with it just coming back up, but the fact is it's in Sony's own best interests which is why in the end they'll no doubt give us store credit or a free game. And for the last time stop calling PSN free. We paid a lot more for this console than the XBOX which acted as a down payment for free features like blu-ray and free online. We paid for PSN, because we bought the playstation, and not to mention features like Netflix being restricted which people do pay monthly for. While I'm not asking for it, expect compensation from Sony because the fact is they've pissed a lot of people off and whether they deserve to be pissed off or not, they're customers and Sony doesn't have much of a choice as a Business.

Obviously not. PSN is free. Sure, it would be really cool of them to give something away, but they'd lose so much money it wouldn't be worth it.

You shouldnt get anything you get psn for free. I'd understand if you pay for it they would need to compensate for the wasted game time you payed for but you don't pay for psn so....

Ummm no.
Isn't PSN free?

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
PS+ and DCUO aren't free, whould you want some compensation if you were in the pub club and the escapist went down?
*shrugs*
Well it's their fault for going with the PS3 when they could have gotten an xbox (which rocks and is so much better trololol).
Except they're almost the same damn console.

Careful with posts like these, as they can rapidly become flame-bait. -Mod

Shit happens - not going to get bent out of shape over losing PSN for awhile. I lost count of how many weeks I lost over replacing my 360 console 4 times. At least I can still game on my PS3.

Amazing how console fanbois on the MS side are dancing with glee. Anyone who thinks the 360 is better than the PS3 is a tool. IMO MS was down right criminal in the way they cut back on things with the 360 giving it such a high failure rate.

At the very least, they need to explain what's going on better. A couple days of downtime and all they did was switch in a bare-bones "PSN is undergoing maintenance" message and make some blog posts. No ETA, no explanation of what was wrong unless you went online and looked around... they fumbled on this.

That's what I was thinking when it was going to be out for a couple of days.
Really (even before this outage) I thought we should've all been rewarded for buying the ps3. This is just the latest fiasco in a long history of crappy support.
I'm goingto be really pissed if it's true that they booted everyone off for 2 weeks because a couple of hackers were able to buy a couple of copies of Peggle with fake credit cards.

There was a reward, I got it, it was some arcade game.... can't remember it's name but it was actually pretty fun, like star wars battlefront under water as a side scroller... awesome game actually, I should play it again.

OT: I don't think compensation is needed unless your PSN+ member and your subscription runs out because of this, that would be very unfair in my opinion. Still, a free game would be nice....just saying.

Edit: And yes we did play for PSN but I don't think we are at the point where it has become such a big deal. If this goes on for another month or two however, then I think we would/should be compensated. Remember, we were promised free online when we bought the consoles.

PSN+ Subscribers definitely should. Free people? Not so much. I don't really see why we should get compensated, shit happens and they're working on upgrading the security, at least they're doing it for a reason.

But if they do hand out freebies, I'm not one to complain :p I just hope it's back up soon, I miss my Street Fighter 2 online and I'm awaiting my copy of Mortal Kombat.
