But Doctor Who isn't an obsession. The TARDIS told me so.
When I asked K9 whether I was unhealthily obsessed with Doctor Who, he said "Negative!". Also, I haven't built a dalek suit yet, so I can't be completely obsessed.

You know, Root, I'm not sure whether to love you with the fire of a thousand suns, or set Max on you. On the one hand, it's great to have another UK Doctor Who fan on the site. Yet on the other hand, I find myself insanely jealous that I've finally met someone who knows more about Doctor Who than I do. And I know a lot. Believe me.

OT, I definitely know someone whose obsession drives me up the wall. A friend of mine from my old school, who goes as Sorceror Nobody on this site, has a fixation with Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy, and to a lesser extent, Pokemon. Now, all of these things are cool. But he just loves to go on and on about them like the fanboy that he is. Admittedly fanboyism isn't that bad (I'm a self-confessed Halo fanboy, after all), but his fanboyism is completely mind-destroying. And that's putting it politely. He does have Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD though, so I can forgive him to a certain extent.

I have a friend who saw "An Unearthly Child" when it was first transmitted, I'm still not as fanboi-ish as I could be :)

Do any of you have friends, partners, siblings etc who have an unhealthy infatuation with something?
My partner is obsessed with The Joker from The Dark Knight and to be honest, it's annoying me now. It's completely fine to like him, but when you're constantly quoting him, acting like him and doing the mannerisms, that's taking it a bit too far.

So, I ask you; Do you know anyone who drives you up the wall with their obsessions?
Luckily I don't but, on the other hand I'm pretty obsessed with anime in general. And I have tried (to some degree of sucess) to get the people around me hooked to an anime.

Now I'm aware of the fact that most people couldn't care less about what I like, but out of the people I've shown shows to:

3 became fans of anime
2 acknowleged that the particular anime I had shown to them was interesting
2 said that 'anime just wasn't for them'

So I'm not really sure if I could be classified as annoying.

Your thoughts?

First off, i'm gonna do myself.
I'm obsessed with foreign metal - i love it. I love rockin out to soaring choruses from Blind Guardian or air-guitaring to a solo from HammerFall.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that two of my friends and I are obsessed with the anime "Bleach." Me and the egomaniac (he's actually my best friend but still it's annoying) text each other during commercial breaks and discuss the events that are happening.

Now....my friend.
He's obsessed with himself. I inwardly cringed when i heard his score on the latest history test (yes, i'm a kid in high school) and he got a 60/60. Oh great, more food for his massive ego! Ugh once he gets started about "how godly he is" he never shuts up.

Note: Blind Guardian is German, HammerFall is Swedish (they both sing in english), and i have not ventured once outside of the U.S.

Being an anime fan i agree with the spread of anime. What method you use to attempt to get them hooked will change my response, so could you please enlighten me on your methods?

I REALLY hated that period when Napoleon Dynamite came out. Fucking Pedro shirts and morons trying to talk like that dumb ass main character.
Yeah, I was one of the only kids in my 6th grade class that wasn't obsessed with that movie.

Borat also got a bit of over-saturation, but that was a funny movie. I just preferred it when I was the only one I knew that knew about Borat.
I was forced to watch Napoleon Dynamite for new years one year. That and Borat are annoying to hear quoted.
Everyone has their own obsessions so its not obsessions so much as mannerisms about them. such as quoting either of those two movies obsessively.
Also Anime girls. Who seriously go "sqeee" in real life when they get excited and are completely obsessed with EVERYTHING Anime and can't grow up. Especially when they are 18-25 and act 12

Okay, this may come off as weird, or maybe not at all...

I was once obsessed with FPS, and no, not as in First Person Shooters but as in Frames Per Second. I learned to discern (or so I believe) the hitches in gameplay and associate numbers with them by making comparisons of games that ran at 60, 40, 30, etc. Now I don't do it any longer...to other people's faces.

My brother once-years ago by the way-got angry and told me to shut up about it, and I was like "dude, chill," but yeah, he was probably right.

The leftovers of my obsession are that now I can't watch anything blu ray because, let's face it, it does look pretty and sounds pretty, but the screen refresh rate (them FPS) is FUCKING uneven, especially in effect heavy secuences. Normally blu ray makes the attempt at running at 60, but sometimes you can see the rate drop as low as 24 that the damn thing is unwatchable to me. It's sad (and jarring) watching 60fps people trying to outrun a 24fps body of water. It takes you out of the movie comlpetely. I rather watch my ugly 24fps media that is even, at least.

Hmm, on second thought, I was probably mildly obsessed with the novels Atonement and Anna Karenina for weird reasons. Anna Karenina I can understand why, but Atonement? I'm a guy, damnit.

That should give you an answer
I swear that I won't rest until I find the woman who wrote the Twilight series and rip out her hair for those abominations that pass as "novels" Amost every girl I now has a dangerous obsession with the series. And they all want to try convince me to read it, claiming it isn't a book written for girls, despite the fact that the vampire SPARKLES IN THE FUCKING SUNLIGHT WITHOUT HIS **** SHIRT ON.

Sorry, I get way too worked over Twilight *takes deep breathes*

As for me, I've developed an obsession for Cammy from Street Fighter. I probably don't need to explain why.

I can gladly say that I hated Napolean Dynamite. Why it became so popular will forever be a mystery for me...

I usually use a slow baiting method.

Heres how it works:
-First I tell the person in question I wan't to show them a song
-I usually show them something like 'Lillium' (elfen lied op) or something good from a show's soundtrack
-Then if the person in question is curious about where the song comes from, I tell them it's from one of those animes I'm always watching
-After I tell them that I give them a synopsis of the anime in question
-Then I offer to show them the first couple of episodes from said show

-It's important to choose a show you think that your audience will enjoy (avoid shows like elfen lied and trigun) good all-around 'starter' animes would be: Fullmetal Alchemist, .hack//SIGN, Higurashi (for a more mature viewer obviously) and FLCL

I have a friend of mine who's one of those "Environmental green people" who picks up the slightest peace of paper on the ground every time he walks in the street. He's constantly blabbing about environment until I hit him on the head and told him to get over it.
Oh, and yesterday? Dear god.

All the people at my school are going bonkers over the "literary masterpiece that is Twilight!!!!!!" The book is garbage, and people get pissed when I prclaim it. I ask them 1 good thing about it is the "Awesome vocabulary!" I guess their refering to the fact that the author used incandecent to describe Ed's skin color, or when verbose is used to as a synonym for talkative. I never knew pale skin could be the color of a lightbulb. The only thing keeping the piece of crap going is fanservice. Oh, and crappy movies.....
