Oh man this is going to turn into a full-on hate-fest against Modern Warfare 2 in about... *looks at watch* five seconds.

It's not exactly a loved game around here.

It is the best FPS multiplayer experience I have had. Yep I said it.

I find almost every multiplayer game insanely boring and only normally play singleplayer, MW2 was an exception.

Why? Because there is a sense of progression, something I need in games. A feeling that A) I am either growing, advancing and becoming better/stronger, or B) following a storyline of some kind and looking toward a particular goal. One or both of these things are always in the Singleplayer of shooters, and hardly ever in the multiplayer. Modern Warfare 2 is an exception to that rule and actually incorporates point A in it's multiplayer. When I played it I advanced, gained ranks, got better weapons and upgrades and there is actually a POINT to playing the game. Making it fun and addictive at least in short bursts.

It just proved I was only playing the game for the sense of progression once I unlocked the akimbo shotguns and there was nothing else I was interested in unlocking.. I immediately felt bored of the experience and didn't play it again. A few days later I uninstalled it from my PC. But I racked up 73 hours in the game altogether (completely unprecedented for me, since I am the type of person who plays games until the end of the storyline then uninstalls them, so the average amount of time I play one game is about 8 hours)

Its not a great game and it has major problems, but just such a simple addition as a leveling system kept me coming back for more and made the game incredibly addictive despite how much I could criticize all other aspects of it at every turn. For this reason I will keep buying Call of Duty games and I really hope other FPS games start taking a leaf from the COD book for their multiplayer (it seems as though this may be happening, since Bioshock 2 included a similar leveling system I believe)

I seem to get sick of online shooters after a few monthes. when halo 3 came out i played for a few monthes and loved it. then Modern warfare came out and i got sick of Halo 3. and i pretty much havent played it in a long time. (played one game of slayer last week and was pretty much bored to tears)When MW2 came out i played it for about 6 monthes and I still play it just not as much. I have a strong feeling that I will play Halo Reach for a while and move on to a different game. I tend to do that, play 2 or 3 different games for a long time, start to get bored with them and play something else.

I love that constant brown, how can anyone ever tire of it?
I know right? Especially when it's broken up by the blue skies of Favela, the green grass and vines of Overgrown, the bright suburban paint of the houses in Bailout, the decrepit, washed out colours of the abandoned Carnival grounds and the icy blue wastes of Derailed, Salvage and Sub Base.

Ahh... hmm.

I kinda found it hard to follow the story, to me it seemed like a bunch of awesome set-piece battles, but with little discernible context for them to sit it

I'm not sick of it, I actually find it really fun when it's not pissing you off. I think the only way you can really have fun if your just playing without any goal. You're just playing for fun.

I bought it just because everyone else was playing it, brought myself to play 1 month of it, then I got sick of it. Honestly, it's not that good of a game.

*facepalm* Doesn't anyone lurk anymore?

Personally, I like MW2. But I never play online, only the singleplayer campaign.

Because those people enjoy playing it perhaps?

I still enjoy playing it with my friends on local split screen nowadays and never play it online anymore thanks to something that happened the matchmaking system which will refuse to find me games.

Ahhh... maybe one day i can reach rank 70.

Also, the events in the game are quite epic and from a more visual perspective are outright awesome. (Second sun, the entire level basically, is my personal favourite)

And they didn't understand the story because the game had the most awful narrative I've ever seen in a game.

I'm sick of threads about it.

Other than that, I've never played it, and neither have my regular gaming buddies, so I don't really have to worry about the whole topic.

I'll say this much for MW2, it is probably the best idiot sponge ever devised by man.

Polite Disagreement: The Single-Player experience is still one of the best in the biz, albeit short.
I agree, I wholeheartedly enjoyed the single player in both CoD:4 and MW2 (not so much CoD:WAW but that's another conversation all together). And heck, I'll be honest, I still play CoD:4's multiplayer from time to time. MW2, however, is a very different story. I've ranted on this before and I doubt that anyone will actually read this, so I'll skip all the details on why I quit MW2's multiplayer.

Final thoughts (all personal opinion, feel free to disagree, I'd be happy to reply to your opinions):

-CoD4 - Excelent single player, good multiplayer that I still revisit occasionally

-MW2 - Equally as satisfying and engaging single player, multiplayer that died out as soon as people (or rather Xbox LIVE trolls AKA children that had no business playing the game anyway or anyone else that would gladly break the game so they could do better) decided that fun belonged solely to them and nobody else.
