It depends on how much of an achievement whore you are. If that extra (I'm guessing here: 50?) gamerscore means that much to you, go for it.

As you may already know, i hate the multiplayer on Bioshock 2, or rather, despise it for the rotten bag of **** that it is, but sadly, someone on 2K had the brilliant idea of putting achivments for getting to level 40. And if you have played the MP on BS2, you know how frustrating it can be. So im thinking of betraying all my normal morals and.....Boost. Now, don´t get me wrong, im not the guy who boosts to get an advantage over other players, no. The second i hit level 40, im done. Never playing this again. Trading it in for Heavy Rain. So, what im asking is, should i boost or just give up and trade it in in defeat? Give me a reason for both please, im so conflicted.
Stop being a punk and sweat it out. What' s the point in an achievement if you don't put the work in! That's the whole point of it all.

Get heavy rain, trade in bioshock 2 and do it now and once the clerk gives you heavy rain squeal like a school girl run around in a circle five times, roll on the floor for thirty seconds and pelvic thrust at the halo 3 figurines and then hold aloft your copy of heavy rain and shout out the sound that comes one when you pick something up out of a chest on ocarina of time.

Then i suppose you take it home and play it or whatever.

... It's an achievement. It's arbitrary bullshit developers added in just to hook people like you. It doesn't matter. Fuck it, just trade the game in if you aren't enjoying it.

The multiplayer isn't bad,It's just made that way.

The connection issue the only real issue I see, They fix whatever they messed up, and the game becomes incredible.

I wouldn't call "Boosting" the same thing as "Cheating", thereby making it perfectly okay to do so if you really feel like this achievement is worth it. You're taking advantage of a glitch or issue in the game the developers overlooked or have failed to patch. In my opinion, taking advantage of everyone of those glitches and issues before they are fixed (if ever) is worth it. God knows what a pain in the ass it is when I can' warn a player about a Tank in L4D by hitting a button, instead, I have to actually speak or something. Not to mention "Jesus Room" and all that stuff too.

as moral dilemmas go it not the great man kind has ever faced. but at the end of the day it can only come down to personal choice. ive seen all the possible options before me and thre nothing that i could tell you that you havent heard from someone else. tell you what if it means that much to you then boost. if it doesnt then just go back to what gaming about, enjoy this generation of consoles.

I'd hardly call this a "moral dilemma" its not like your contemplating helping a elderly relative to end their life to escape the pain from a terminal illness and are faced with the difficulty of deciding what takes priority between the sanctity of life and the quality of life or some such thing......

Personally i wouldn't want to waste my life playing a game that i don't want to and don't take any enjoyment from just to get an achievement. You're much better off just getting a new game which you will play for the sake of enjoyment rather then some irrelevant number and tiny icon you will look at for all of ten seconds.

And besides that whats the point of "cheating" to get an achievement? what exactly have you achieved? If how high your gamer score is is supposed to reflect your ability as a gamer and earn you some sort of creditability (which it doesn't) then surely it defeats the whole point of having a high score if you have to cheat your way to get there because you won't be as good as people expect you to be and come off looking a worse player for it.

Moral deliemmas usually involve a decision between breaking one moral over another. For instance: Do you steal bread to feed your starving family? The moral of theft to the moral of death by neglect. Do you sacrifice one loved one for the good of many strangers? Conflict with preservation of life and loyalty to your loved one.

"Cheat or walk away?" What moral would you be breaking by walking away?

I would say that if it is a viable mechanic, it isn't "cheating". However, you have already acknowledged that you believe it is. The more important question is why you would play a game if you do not enjoy it? Your answer seems to be the achievement. Well, if it is for "bragging" rights; you wouldn't really be entitled to "brag" about it if you "cheated". As well, and as many have pointed out, they are not so much an indicator of "skill", but of the amount of leisure time one enjoys. Also, the only people who concern themselves with gamerscore, trophies, achievements, etc.; are only concerned with their own. There wouldn't really be anyone to "brag" to; as many assign no value to gamerscore, and those that do couldn't care less about yours.

What is "boosting" exactly?
2 people or more who hack the same turret repeatedly to gain points and get to level 40 faster.
lvl 40 of what? In the game for unlockables (new weapons/items/modes) or just the tacked on "Xbox Live Achievements"?

I've come to really hate Xbox 360 achievements because they have replaced what has existed in games for decades before; hidden items, treasures, challenges and so on to get "unlocks" that offer tangible improvements or just new things to games like new costumes, cheats, weapons, game modes, etc. But now Achievements (and trophies too) are utterly pointless, all you get is a "ping" and a slight improvement in a stat that is completely irrelevant to anything.

It seems developers are moving the direction that they'd much rather you PAY for extra game content or game modes as DLC rather than unlock them through the challenge/reward system that had worked so perfectly for the previous 6 generations of consoles. I mean they have their $60 from me, what more do they want!!!

I got so many more hours of enjoyment out of Tomb Raider by completing the time trials for new cheats and costumes, it was WORTH IT collecting all the intel in COD4 to unlock all the insane cheats like slow-mo, cluster grenades and infinite ammo.

But to spend so many countless hours collecting hidden items JUST to increase your gamerscore... give me a fucking break. Oh yeah, I found the final COG-tag, what do I get? A new weapon, costume, ANYTHING!>?!? No, just a fucking "plink" and a number added to a Gamerscore that Microsoft have admitted will never be used for anything.

Challenge-reward for WITHIN a game is what has worked and what is worth it. Xbox achievements are just grind for the sake of grind.

If you're getting this worked up about a game you need to find a new hobbie. How 'bout collecting stamps? Sewing? No need to fret over these silly "Moral Dilemmas". Nice n' Calm.

I play games to have fun, acheivements are meerly a bonus to strive for.

Obviously it doesn't matter... I doubt people will examine your achievements, see that you didn't reach level 40 in Bioshock 2 and suddenly start flaming you.

Dont you quit. DONT YOU QUIT! Regardless of boosting, if your not making a game out of it, then it doesn't matter. just get to level 40, and switch it off.

You'll just be wasting time and effort if you do this boosting business. Do something you enjoy =] everyone lives for the future (work to achievement option), just live for now and enjoy yourself now (trade in) =]

Just boost, if its unreasonable fuck it.

I did Borderlands Mad Moxxi DLC with a level 20 so the mobs where level 20 as it is so pointlesssly hard as a level 50.

The large arenas still took 2 hours EACH.

Dude they're achievements......who gives a fuck? Just trade the game in, don't piss off the people who might actually enjoy the multiplayer.
