Well I'm not going to beat around the bush, I'm fucking struggling with the first boss fight. yes the first one laugh if you want. but I'm currently fucked at the moment as i don't have many explosives, and almost no grenades and all i have is shotgun pistol combat and machine pistol. first i thought it was a difficulty problem and i switched to easy.

It's the Barrett fight if anyones lost so far,

and anytime i try and run for different cover i just get raped by his massive erectional mini gun extension on his arm. HELP???AEFA@#R@#R

There's a LOT of explosive barrels lying around. Pick them up and throw them at him.

Duck into the room just left of the start or the far right and pick up whatever it has to offer. I think you can find one or two EMP 'nades. Stun him with those or the barrels and aim for the head. If you head in the room after you stun him he might just start randomly throwing nades, wait until the markers are the other side of the map and just jump out to take a few shots at him.

There really is no special gimmick to the fight. You have more than ample weaponry for it (more than quite a few people had, going into that fight, I dare say), and you don't need any of the special combat augs, or even amazing reflexes. His machine gun bursts come at predictable intervals. Hide behind the four pillars on the outskirts of the room, and duck out to shoot at him between his attacks. When he gets close (but not too close) sprint to the next pillar, moving along the outskirts of the room (don't cut through the middle). You'll take a few hits on the way, but not enough to be a serious problem, and the health you lose should regenerate before you need to move to the next pillar. Don't hang out and exchange hits with him, it won't work. If he flings some grenades, run to the next pillar to get out of the radius. You'll need to displace frequently, and your opportunities to hurt him will be few and last only a few seconds at a time, but it's a war of attrition you'll eventually win.

One final note...you might want to spend your first "pillar time" shooting the barrels that line the walls. Those can put a quick end to your aspirations if you happen to be running past them and a stray round hits one.

Do you have the armor-piercing upgrade for the pistol? What about laser sight? Those are exceptionally useful for dropping Barrett, as a lasered and AP pistol is accurate, fast-firing, and damaging enough to hurt him in between runs for new cover.

haha i went the stealthy route, and i normally knocked a few guards out for the ammo.

I've tried looking for the grenades, but i'll have to try the tactics you gave me. I'll give em a go next time i can get me dirty mits on the tellie. because the first thing i make sure i do i shoot the barrel near him. and then i fling the one rocket i do have at him.

I'm not sure how much the barrel does, but I know that 3 (4?) rockets will drop him on "Give me a Challenge" difficulty. Assuming the barrel is even close in damage, you should have already done a lot of damage to him.

Penny Arcade did a good one on this particular encounter: http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2011/09/02

Anyways: See if you can't scrounge around while you're being shot at. I didn't know for the first 5 or 9 tries that there is a weapons locker containing shotguns and machine pistols- and that helped a bit.

Best way to do it: get as many EMP grenades as you can. Even one will seriously improve your odds.

When the battle begins, you have to stall for time. Duck for cover because he will shoot immediately. If you have activated the Typhoon augmentation and the ammo for it, wait for him to stop, then run over and Typhoon his ass. If not, throw a grenade. Any kind of grenade will do. If you don't even have that, then simply proceed to the final step. Wait for him to stop shooting, run to the side and grab the explosive barrels or gas tanks and throw it at him. If you manage to do so, don't let up, keep hurling barrels at him.

Would you like the simple trick?

Shoot him with the taser.

Throw a barrel.

Shoot him with the taser.

Throw a barrel.

Shoot him.

---

On Deus Ex difficulty this plus perhaps a few shots at his head (pistol with anti armor upgrade works well) will take him out easily.

Why no one thinks to tase the bosses is beyond me.

Works better than those grenades.

Don't feel bad, I had trouble too. I was playing on hard and mastered in stealth...

Anyways, EMP grenades are useful. There's at least one in the room, and they'll confuse him enough where he might just throw grenades at himself.

Start with an EMP or gas grenade, if you've still got one, then run to the nearest canister with an 'explosive' or 'toxic' logo and toss it at him. Repeat for two minutes or until target is dead.

All right, I just finished the game as a Pacifist Jensen on Give Me Deus Ex difficulty. I had a very easy time with every single boss.

So some tips:
-Grenades are important. Make sure you come into each boss battle with a few Gas and EMP grenades, which will stun the bosses (except for the third one. He seems to only be stunned by Gas grenades).

-Stun Guns: With the second boss, I kept her stunned the entire time. Seriously, she ran at me and I went all *Brzzztt* and she stood there for a minute while I alternated lobbing grenades at her and re-stunning her. Ridiculously easy. This didn't work on #3, though (and I didn't try it with the first guy).

-Rocket Launchers: I know I found a Rocket Launcher not long before the first boss, and I found a few more elsewhere as well in the game. It was really my go-to weapon for the first one, though. I'm not sure how good it would be against the other bosses anyway. The Rocket Launcher is slow to equip, slow to fire, and makes it slow to throw grenades (and since bosses #2 and #3 are both rather mobile so long as you don't have them stunned, being slow is a bad thing). Use it on the first guy and maybe keep it as insurance otherwise if you wish.

-Keep a weapon throughout the entire game. For me, I kept the 10mm pistol since it was small and I didn't want something bigger taking up space the entire game (lethal weapons were useless to me outside of boss fights since I took the pacifist route). The advantage here is that you can keep upgrading the same weapon over and over.

-Typhoon: I only used this twice in my entire playthrough, and both times on the third boss. But it killed him very quickly (I stunned him with a gas grenade, used Typhoon. Stunned again, Typhooned again. Then he died).

-As far as augmentations go, the only ones I found useful against bosses were the Typhoon, the cloak (and energy upgrades. They go hand-in-hand), and chemical resistance (kept me from being affected by my own gas grenades).

I went in with two emp grenades, there's a side room that will give you gradates an emp and a frag, this strat works regardless for either or. Throw the grenade at his feet, run to a barrel while he's disoriented. Pick it up and throw it at him, aim for the body, rinse and repeat.

All else fails and you run out of grenades, unload a few clips into him, he can't have much more life after that.

I had trouble with this boss fight to, your not alone.

All bosses can be defeated easily using a single strategy;

>>> SPAM FRAG MINES. <<<

In the event that you don't have any frag mines on you at all; well then it sucks to be you. =P

Method 1: Do you have Typhoon level 2? If yes, Typhoon -> Shoot -> Typhoon. If no, get Typhoon level 2 before the second boss fight.

Method 2: Barrels. Pick up a white barrel (filled with gas), toss it at Barret to stun him. Pick up a red barrel (explosive), toss it at stunned Barret. Repeat as needed.

Method 3: Shoot him. In the face, in the nuts, in the butt, everywhere. When he comes close, dive from cover to cover to get distance. Use Cloak if you have it to get away. Repeat as needed.

I used Method 3 when I had zero combat augs and my only weapon was a 10mm Pistol (with all the upgrades, I could find, but still hardly an imposing gun). Anyone can do Method 2.
