I haven't actually seen the movie, but I don't feel any particular spite towards it (Except the SHAMELESS advertising in Bones, but that me pissed off at Bones more than Avatar). But why is it such a big deal if someone has a different opinion about something they saw on a big wall?

For everyone who has this 'Avatar depression', do watch the Planet Earth documentary series. It'll make you appreciate your home planet a lot more.

I would read what you said but anyone who writes a point by point argument tends to be a wordy egotistical twat. And just by skimming over it I can tell you are, you could easily reduce that to a very short post.
I suppose I'll just respond to you final point in kind. You ask why I'm here? I ask why you're responding to me if it's that big of a problem. If you didn't I wouldn't have responded and hurt your widdle feelings. I would have went on ignoring this topic after leaving my feelings on avatar in the nine billionth topic about avatar.
Sorry, where in there did you answer my question? Sorry about actually organizing my thoughts, I'm such a wordy egotistical twat!

I call rage troll. And in all sincerity, troll, I'm sorry that THE FEVER has gotten to you. At least you have the consolation that the James Horner soundtrack won't be playing everywhere you go the next time you visit the mall.

Thanks for not answering any of my questions! Bye bye!

It's just a damn movie. I don't get why there seems to be all this hostility towards people who either love it or hate it depending on which side of the arguement that the person is on. People are entitled to their own opinions and shouldn't feel like they need to bash anyone else for their opposite opinions.

I personally thought that the movie was alright, being that it wasn't, quote "TEH BEST THING EVAR" or "IT TOTALLY SUCKED". The effects were very pleasing to look at for two and a half hours, and the plot and characters were okay. But it felt like it dragged on for too long, and some scenes felt pretty out of place.

But I do think that naming the mountains after the ones in the movie seems like a complete "What?" in terms of why this is happening. Sure, maybe China wants to embrace the movie's environmental theme, but are the mountains really floating?

Sarcasm aside, people just need to relax and focus their anger at more important things.

I honestly don't get why movies can affect the world so drastically.
Because stories shape, define, and record culture. They are among the most important cultural aspects of any society. I could write a term paper on this, so I'll just stop there.

OT: I loved the movie. I don't care about some stupid Chinese mountains being named after stuff, people who kill themselves over depression from a fantasy world have issues, but I can understand how mild depression could come from it: as stated, it's a weird thing.

Stop making such a big deal about it, people.

Oh, and LordNue, just because everyone talks about it doesn't make it a bad movie. I don't understand how you could possibly judge a movie simply because people talk about it a lot, but you missed out because of it. It really demands to be seen on the big screen.

government din't ban it. It used its authority to make it so small theatres had to remove it in order to fit in some chinese films. The large theaters were still showing it, I'm pretty sure they've stopped by now as well but tha'ts just how the market goes.

.............. Avatar was good. Not great, not amazing, but good. So why the hell did it create so much controversy?

I'm not blaming the movie, I blame China. Why?
BECAUSE IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE.
Ban a movie then worship it?
Wut?
Nu-uh, I'm not just gonna let it slip by un-bitched about.
Besides, all this CGI shit is getting annoying. Remember the sets in the OT? Those looked more human-like and thus I liked them far better than all this easy-to-tell-it-was-animated bullshit.
Compare these two rooms from both sides of Star Wars, where the original movies where actually filmed on MADE sets and the Prequels where mostly CGI. Let's say... The Emperor's Throne room and Utupau.
Look at the behind the scenes for those movies, and you'll see an excess amount of green/blue screens in the Prequels behind the scenes, and in the Throne Room you'll see it's mostly actual OBJECTS.

I never said it was a bad movie. Hell it might actually be the best damn movie, it might be as good as everyone says. I don't know nor will I ever know because I'm just so god damned tired of it being everywhere and everyone talking about it and having it shoved in my face every day AVATARAVATARAVATAR. Maybe in a year or two when no one remembers it I'll rent it or something and enjoy it without the hatred of the 'spergy populace I have.

: ) There was no trolling, I left my opinion and you attacked me for it. You're nearer to a troll then I. But thank you for leaving, you're quite annoying.
Ah, the naivete of youth. Thank you for making your point (clear?), little one.

Loved the movie, thought Pandora was amazing, but I'd still rather take good ol' Earth over that flamboyant forest anyday. All the people feeling depressed over not living in Pandora need to step outside and enjoy the world we've got because it could kick that pansy-ass-day-glow-wannabe with ease.

This is my (figurative) back yard, not much more than an hours drive away. Spoilered so the picture doesn't take up space.

Pandora? Pah! Earth could take it!

There's a bloody good reason for Avatar depression, and it's too bad some folks on this site are too blind to understand (what to expect from Halo fanboys, eh...)

There are groups like "Indigenous people against capitalism." The basic fact of the matter is western European culture went for technology first and foremost, with the exception of that bit called the dark ages, and either abandoned or killed and raped any culture that focused first and foremost on how to live. I don't blame China for wanting to rename some mountains. Maybe they're finally realizing letting Mao kill all the Taoists and Buddhists was a really bad idea. I don't suffer from Avatar depression, but I hope to God that many others do and we start really understanding what we've done to ourselves as a global civilization.

Finally, for those of you who are tired of hearing about Avatar: Fine, be tired of it, crawl back into your caves and leave those of us who aren't tired of it alone, or we will hound you and bug the life of of you.....
