I'll admit to not having seen Pokemon in a long time, but that trailer looks pretty much like the same ol' Pokemon I know, just with a more frowney, slightly older protagonist and a rock track over the whole thing.

An online petition...for a gritty reboot...of a cartoon aimed at children.

May you never change, internet.
Remember the old Adam West Batman show?

Sure glad THAT never changed into a darker and gritter version, huh?
I'd go so far as to say that the Adam West Batman show (despite being fucking awesome as balls and free from Christian Bale's idiotic, gravelly Batman voice) is on the same level as a "gritty" reboot of Pokemon, as both are unnecessary deviations from the source material (you think golden age Batman was all Bat-dancing and shark-repellant spray? Fucker shot people).

Besides, a franchise that suddenly does a complete 180 to it's own development and aims for darkness and grittiness often comes out far sillier than what it was before (just look at that Warrior Within Prince of Persia game), so while I'd support a new series of the Pokemon show more mature than the cheesy (yet ever lovable) '90s cartoon I get a bit of a vibe from this that it could result in some over-the-top bloody, gritty piece of media that turns the franchise into a laughing stock (and knocks the notion that media aimed at kids can be just as mature and thoughtful as anything aimed at adults, ala Pixar films).

I posted the same damn trailer a week ago.

I loved it then And I love it now.

Though I don't feel that we should focus on it.

If we did it though:

I would want to see a more naruto-level maturity, but....it must be handled carefully. Ironically, If I could find my old script, you people are welcome to look at a PG-13 leveled from scratch episode I wrote. The idea being that the Pokemon were the main characters who talked, humans were on the side. Also it was a new team, new characters, and Jennifer Anniston was the voice of a Garchomp......with an attitude.

And before anyone calls fanfiction on my ass. New city, and no shitty love scenes, not even a mention of that crap. The Human was 20, had a job, and was barely on the damned thing.
Naruto... Maturity??? Uhh,ok, anyway. I think it would be cool to see maybe a pokemon thing with an older character with real issues. Not like with psychopaths or mass murderers but something other than how friendship saves the day yet again. Adventure time pulls this off rather nicely so I know it is possible.
I meant by uncensored violence and swearing on a PG13 level, naruto attempts these things but normally fails and usually fails harder at "emotional" scenes when it plays sad music and 1000 flashbacks.

Actually, not Naruto, go with Korra levels of maturity but not be afraid to say "damn" or have some blood and scratches dragon ball z level.

What I had written was relatively well done. At least I thought it was.
I am sorry, I misunderstood, and by your meaning, I have to agree with you there.

Sorry. This is relevant to my interests, therefore I've made an account just to necro this here thread with an arbitrary comment:

Darker themes, more purpose and arc complexity, successful villains, and deeper character development for both the new protagonist and the rest of the cast would ruin Pokemon; its target audience is five year olds. That'd be silly. And selfish. How dare we, the mature consumers of Pokemon media, propose a progressive spin-off with the aforementioned qualities?

Let's face it, we'd be better off preserving Pokemon's shallow innocence and laughing off the notion. Why not sit cross-legged in a circle, roast some marshmallows, and reflect on how terribly this went for "Legend of Korra" or "Batman Beyond," two other largely unsuccessful children's shows which attempted such radical and foolish ideas.

Ohwait--

Yeah. I'll be thawing out in the Logic Chamber if you need me.

EDIT: Pokemon is about 646 species of potent untamed monsters aligning with humans to fight, grow, and change the world. What there can't be mature or serious when it's interpreted like that?

I'll sign a petition for a Pokemon anime where Ash actually catches Pokemon as opposed to hearing their life story and helping them out with their problems.

On the one hand, I would like to see the anime done in the same kind of style as the pre-release trailer for Black & White 2, that thing was cool. But changing the formula that has allowed the Pokemon anime to keep going for as long as it has (about 15 years now I think) would probably mess up its consumer base big time. I don't know about the rest of you but I still get some enjoyment out of watching some old episodes of the anime. Okay, maybe not so much the slice of life ones but I love the episodes with contests, gym battles, grand festivals and pokemon leagues as much as ever.

Happy Holidays in advance everyone!
