I don't know why Konami continues to release Silent Hill games. Right after Resident Evil's, Silent Hill's fans are about the biggest assholes on this planet and no matter what the developers do, it'll "never reach 1-3 / 1-2 / 2". This has less to do with quality and more with principle. I'd be pretty depressed if I was in their place.
Hate to agree. Don't get me wrong. Like I said, I've been disappointed. I still think that every single SH game since Team Silent left the building has had some redeeming qualities. They weren't perfect, they weren't complete crap either. Every one felt like it was made by people who really, really wanted to give us a true Silent Hill game. There was a passion there. They're hardly by the numbers (c'mon. Tell me Shattered Memories was playing it safe! I dare ya!).

And this trailer wasn't bad. Guarantee you, if people thought that this was made by Team Silent people would be cutting it a LOT more slack. But it's not, so people are picking it apart for the silliest of reasons. Female cop means there's a corny love interest? REALLY?!

I played both Silent Hill 1 and Shattered Memories and they have pretty much nothing in common. Surely it was announced as a remake, but no real fan of the series would count it as one.

You know I still haven't got a clear idea on why Team Silent was ever disbanded in the first place. I mean, the first four games did well, haven't they? Only thing I can think is that Konami hates me personally with a fiery passion.
It's not you they hate; they hated how The Room implied that Team Silent wanted to kill the franchise with terrible ideas.
But three pretty good games and then one sorta flawed game? Well, I guess in this industry you're only as good as your last product. Sad.

It wasn't like that for what I heard, Team Silent didn't wanted to get stuck on one game and konami even made them name The room a Silent Hill game.

If you want to play Team Silent games play Siren.

Us SH fans will cry over every game in its release before understanding the escence, the design and the hidden stuff, but if we are thrutful after giving the games time we accept that they are good games. (I played, dissed and the liked SH0, haven't played SHH but for what I heard it had some good hidden stuff and Just started SH:SM and looks fine yet)

As someone already said, if this trailer had and original development team tag we would be shitting bricks right now.

I want this game to work, and Homecoming is by no means a bad game, so I am tentatively looking forward to this.

Yes other people are the assholes here.
Heh, image, it's the internet. But if it makes you feel better, I wasn't talking about you. (no sarcasm)

But please, do go on with how I'm impossible to discuss with while you and the other guy don't actually provide any evidence to support your side from the game with how it's not just a remake.
The reason I had that impression from you was that in three posts in which you've stated Shattered Memories was undoubtably a class-A remake all you said was "it is, and if you don't agree you're stupid" and filled the rest with LAAAALAAALAAA.
But alright, I'll provide you with some evidence (didn't realize earlier I was in court here, sorry):
1) The parallel world is nothing like the one from the original in both appearance and symbolic meaning.
2) The plot is completely different aside from "dad and kid had car accident near Silent Hill and girl disappeared, dad is looking for her", which is, as I said, only the first few minutes of the game. As soon as you first press a button, the story differs, so to say.
3) Characters are differ entirely in personality, plot relevance and partly appearance, most notably Dahlia. She was almost completely re-written and only a few symbolic traits remained.
4) The entire subplot and game mechanic with the psychologist, which becomes more and more important as the game's story progresses, was never part of the original game.
I could also name gameplay/atmosphere/score differences but those changes are well within the definition of a 'remake' so I think those don't count.

I'm not entirely sure what Shattered Memories really is and if you can call it a remake or not. What I am sure of, though, is that this statement
LordNue said:
Shattered Memories is a remake of the first game. If you think it isn't then...well you should go back to trying to stay in the lines of a colouring book.
is utter crap.
I'd tend towards saying it's not a remake but no matter what you think the case is not that clear.

The trailer never says 'Silent Hill 8', they just call it Silent Hill, that's their working title. The number 8 is just brought up by journalists so they can file it correctly.
Shattered Memories is really hardly a remake, 'story is the same' seems to mean to you that the first five minutes are the same, the rest is mostly different. Obviously it's absolutely impossible to really discuss this with you, though, so fuck that.

OT: I don't know why Konami continues to release Silent Hill games. The graphics look bollocks[...]
Congratulations, you completely grasped what Silent Hill is all about - you've proven to be the developer's targeting audience.
Did you watch the trailer?

There was nothing about it worth mentioning for me apart from how rubbish the graphics were. I found it boring. It doesn't grasp the true nature of Silent Hill. That feeling of isolation you're meant to feel with SH games (of which I've played all but Shattered Memories and Silent Hill 0) wasn't there for me when I watched it so you can drop the sarcasm and get on with your life now thank you.

Yes.

Fair enough, though this was not the essence of what I quoted from you.

That feeling of isolation was only given in Silent Hill 2, all the other games had different themes. Even if that was not the case I have to ask why this would be the only way a Silent Hill game could possibly work.

I heartily recommend Shattered Memories if you can accept that it is both very different but also very alike the old games, but I didn't play through 0 myself because it was rather boring. No worries, I'll go on with my life now, you're welcome :)
