The worst excuses I have heard is a tie between "It's too old/bad graphics" and "It's not realistic". Response to number 1: There is a lot more to a game them graphics. Response to number 2: It's a VIDEO GAME. It gets all the more maddening when people say that CoD is realistic in the same sentence. Recharging health, tiny recoil, and mounds of ammo are NOT realistic. /rant

I'm putting off Beating Black Ops, Mass Effect 2, AC:Brotherhood, and Alan Wake because I want to wait until I feel like paying attention to the story.

That's Pretty Damn Stupid, I should just pop them in and enjoy them, but nooooo.....
Actually, I can understand this one quite well. Playing too many games at once while still trying to be involved in the stories has backfired on me before. I'll get hooked on one game while in the middle of another, and then once I finish that and decide to go back to the other game, I start over because I feel disconnected.

"It's a tie in to a movie/TV series."

Never opened that King Kong game, never will.
That's a shame. King Kong is actually one of the good ones.

Lately I've been feeling like playing Zelda: Majora's Mask, but I can't bring myself to do that without playing Ocarina of Time first. Why? Because MM is a direct sequel, so it feels like I'm starting a game halfway through the overall story. I know it's stupid, just because you're the same character doesn't mean the stories themselves are all that connected. Does anyone have this 'sequel conundrum' as I'm calling it?

And what other dumb reasons do you have or have heard for not wanting to play a game?
that is EXACTLY my problem, except taken to THE EXTREME! i wouldnt play silent hill 3 and i'd played 2. i wouldnt play tony hawk 4 until i played 2 and 3. i wouldnt play san andreas until i played III and vice city. i wouldnt play soul calibur iv without playing ii and iii. so many examples.

right now, i'm trying to play through liberty city stories on ps2 before i allow myself to play vice city stories on psp.

this sometimes is a good idea because the sequels do everything so much better and its hard to go back. majora's mask is not an example of this by the way.

The worst I've heard
"it's old!"
or
"it has bad graphics!"
or how about
"it's unrealistic!"
I've even heard (paraphrased)
"It's from Japan!"

My sillyest reason
I won't play any Call of Duty because I hate the kind of people that do, plus £50 for a 4 hour game!? shame on you.

I notice you not needing to play the actual origional of something,
Oversight, or actual quirk?

also LCS ties into GTA3 but not VCS which ties into Vice City, also they're both prequals.

May I ask why or should I assume it's because of the "it's old" argument that I so despise?

My PS3 and Xbox360 has made me spoiled, so bad graphics usually makes me turn my back on a game. I have bought some PS2-remakes to my PS3 though(PoP and GoW), and I've had fun with them, but graphics is still an issue.
Can't even look at my old PS1-games anymore!

That doesn't sound like a silly reason to me. Music, and sound in general, is a big factor in setting the tone of a game and helps create the atmosphere. Halo for example, if you ask me, was changed from being a smooth but otherwise not very special Doom-ish (yes, I said it, it's a lot closer to that than the rain of CoD-like games) shooter to an epic battle against superior forces mostly thanks to it's outstanding music.

And a game could be brought down for the same reason.
Yeah. Totally agree abut Halo, amazing soundtrack.

Bayonetta on the other hand.... just rapes my ears.

RDR because they made a zombie DLC, I dispise anything that tosses away its main premise for zombies.
I couldn't agree more. I'm getting fed up with zombies being tacked onto everything now. I was really looking forward to some RDR DLC but this just has no appeal to me whatsoever.

The DLC has NOTHING to do with the story of the original, It's a brand new story that isn't cannon.
That's why I didn't bother with it.

To me the 'every other game is doing zombies so let's join the party' thing undermines everything I loved about the main game.
