I don't want to play Bayonetta because I don't like the music.
Understandable, I did the same thing, just with the actual gameplay execution.
Gun-shoes are a nice idea though.

When people refuse to play games that are popular or mainstream for only that reason...
GAH! Thank you for bringing this up!
My brother, when he bought the Orange Box a coupla years ago, people told him not to because, I quote "Half's Life too mainstream, and the rest suck." Well, 2 years later,we have it, I plat Portal occasionally and am going through HL2 EP1 in terms of progress.

My PERSONAL one is when a game is over-hyped to the point where it hits the NEWS programs.
OK, I get the game's being hyped, and a little bit is fine, but when it's to the point that, if compared to a pool, it would have overflowed an HOUR AGO and flooded your house, that's taking it too far.

That doesn't sound like a silly reason to me. Music, and sound in general, is a big factor in setting the tone of a game and helps create the atmosphere. Halo for example, if you ask me, was changed from being a smooth but otherwise not very special Doom-ish (yes, I said it, it's a lot closer to that than the rain of CoD-like games) shooter to an epic battle against superior forces mostly thanks to it's outstanding music.

And a game could be brought down for the same reason.
Yeah. Totally agree abut Halo, amazing soundtrack.

Bayonetta on the other hand.... just rapes my ears.

Wow...that is...intense. At first I thought "Now that's funky!" but bloody hell it just keeps on going and going and going. Well lets do a quick youtube search whether I like some other songs better.

*finds this song [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jq9wkcZ6B4]*

...

OH MY GODS THEY RAPED SINATRA!!! That's it, fuck that game.

Well honestly I wouldn't get it for it's amazingly unattractive main character, screw hyper-sexualisation, and the fact that I suck monkeyballs at combo-based games like that. I learned my lesson with Ninja Gaiden 2.

Oh and I also agree about the zombie DLC for RDR. I loved that game, but when I saw read about that DLC I just sighed very deeply. Really guys, just, really?

Those were turnoffs for me too to be honest. I mean, I have no problem if people find her attractive (personally I think she looks like a deformed giraffe) but the game keeps shoving her sexuality in your face so hard that it made me want to punch her, and the developers who insult my intelligence with such percieved titillation.

What made it worse is that they took the 'empowered female' angle on it. If they just said 'look a hot chick with boobs!' then it would have been less annoying to me.

Yep. Even my non-gaming girlfriend went 'what the fuck?' when she saw the trailer, because she knew how much I'd loved the very human and mature feel of the main game and could see how this undermined it.

The whole Zombie expansion still has a lot of what made RDR so great. The Challenges, Breaking the horses of Apocalypse, lots of fun and interesting side quests, and it's fucking brilliant. It's not just another zombie game.
It's more the tone that doesn't appeal to me, as opposed to the gameplay.

I loved the way RDR looked at themes of human nature, dealing with guilt and the idea of trying to escape your actions in the past. It made you think without being pseudo-intellectual and it felt fresh and exciting for that very reason. It was unique.

The zombies DLC, in my opinion, undermines all of that to tack on a theme which is in fashion at the moment and it's not something I have any interest in, because if I want to kill zombies there are 5000 other games I can do it in.

I had a housemate back when I was at uni that really enjoyed RPGs (Morrowind, Oblivion, Fable, Mass Effect, etc.) who refused to try KoTOR "because it's Star Wars".

But haven't I read that you enjoy the Persona games. They're on the PS2.

OT: I give all games a chance. There has never been an incident where I didn't want to play a game for something petty.
RPGs age gracefully. Action games don't.

I love the music in Bayonetta, to be honest. Not all music needs to be dark and dreary when you're fighting the bad guys. I, for one, think a game that had bubblegum pop-type music playing while someone gets killed in a crazy ass way (à la SAW) would be amazing.

Deadly Premonition is the closest a game has gotten to that. :(

The blurb on the back of a case may see me putting it back. Or the "It was great, two thumbs up" - Douchebag McGee [sub]TERRIBAD COMPANY[/sub] that maybe found on some games and all movies.

Also, the cover itself.

Lately I've been feeling like playing Zelda: Majora's Mask, but I can't bring myself to do that without playing Ocarina of Time first. Why? Because MM is a direct sequel, so it feels like I'm starting a game halfway through the overall story. I know it's stupid, just because you're the same character doesn't mean the stories themselves are all that connected. Does anyone have this 'sequel conundrum' as I'm calling it?

And what other dumb reasons do you have or have heard for not wanting to play a game?
that is EXACTLY my problem, except taken to THE EXTREME! i wouldnt play silent hill 3 and i'd played 2. i wouldnt play tony hawk 4 until i played 2 and 3. i wouldnt play san andreas until i played III and vice city. i wouldnt play soul calibur iv without playing ii and iii. so many examples.

right now, i'm trying to play through liberty city stories on ps2 before i allow myself to play vice city stories on psp.

this sometimes is a good idea because the sequels do everything so much better and its hard to go back. majora's mask is not an example of this by the way.
I notice you not needing to play the actual origional of something,
Oversight, or actual quirk?

also LCS ties into GTA3 but not VCS which ties into Vice City, also they're both prequals.
i decided that i didnt want to play the original tony hawk or the original silent hill period.
May I ask why or should I assume it's because of the "it's old" argument that I so despise?
yeah, that's exactly right. i wouldnt even have played tony hawk 2 except for the fact that it has such a cult following.

its not that i hate old games, its just i have limited amount of time and limited amount of money and i can only play so many games before i die while new games are being released constantly. so i do my best.

I tend to avoid anything that anime/manga fans might like, regardless of how enjoyable I may think it is.

Well at least it's not that you arbitrarily hate games past a certain age, which is more than I can say for most, though I would recomend giving Silent hill one a try if you can find it on the cheap if only so you can say you did.

Skip Tony Hawk though your not missing too much, good game just TH2 is pretty much the same but better.

I've always found it silly to hear how people want to buy or play something but refuse to based on only one aspect of the game. Two examples I've found particularly funny are:

"I wont buy/play game x because it requires steam"

or

"I wont buy/play game y because it doesn't offer a LAN play".

I like the Escape From movies too, I'm not kidding by the way I can find somthing to like in just about anything, by your logic the only things you're allowed to like are

CSI
The Call of Duty fanbase
and anything in the highlander series besides the first film,
And I'm sure there are anime/manga fans besides myself that like these as well,
Exept of course for Highlander the source, there is no redeming that... thing.

I won't buy a boxed game that requires steam because I abhor the practice, what if I had no internet conection?
What if I just don't want a steam account?
What if I get one and somehow piss valve off enough that they suspend my account leaving my game collection usless and me dow a couple of grand (potentialy I spend a fortune on games)?

As for Lan I'll be dissapointed but it's not a deal breaker.

I refuse to play the RDR DLC because it has zombies in it. RDR= Super-normal John Marston fighting his former gang members for his family back as a way of atoning for his former sins. RDR:UN= The character people liked in a situation that's popular with a story comprising of "Here be zombies: shoot they ass"./rant

I also won't buy games which feature tits as the front cover. I need more than tits to sell me things (admittedly not very much)

I don't play games by the Activision-Blizzard Empire because I don't like the idea of Bobby Kotick drawing a salary.

Well theres people that wont play a game because a character has a different sexuallatiy (note: I am not of that group)

I can't really think of silly reasons for not playing a game since I'll try any game once then tell you how I like it, hell I tried NHL 10 even though I abhor sports games and actually liked it
Different sexuality? Are there even any games with an openly homosexual protagonist? I can't think of a single one.
I know I already answered this with Persona 4, but I just thought of another one too: Zevrahn from Dragon Age: Origins. He's a possible character and you can hook up with him as either a male or female character
