I'm such a slut for great writing and storytelling yet I can't play the Silent Hill series (the good ones) because I'm such a wuss. I know it's a game and whatever but I can't get my head around it.

I've been avoiding any and all of the modern warfare-esque games in fear that they might diminish my appreciation for the horrors of war.

Because my parents play it.
This because now I can't play guitar hero now without my mum and her boyfriend running in and saying "Can we play too?!"

Also World of Warcraft, I'm scared if I begin playing it I'm going to like it and won't stop playing it. I am an addictive person ^^

I won't play Parasite Eve, PE 2 and Ninja Blade because of the infected transformation scenes there

they are just a fucking big ass turn off

which is also kind of ironic because I was just past the middle of Ninja Blade when I, for some stupid reason, decided to watch the game intro

I still fucking regret it

I've always found it silly to hear how people want to buy or play something but refuse to based on only one aspect of the game. Two examples I've found particularly funny are:

"I wont buy/play game x because it requires steam"

or

"I wont buy/play game y because it doesn't offer a LAN play".

I won't buy a boxed game that requires steam because I abhor the practice, what if I had no internet conection?
What if I just don't want a steam account?
What if I get one and somehow piss valve off enough that they suspend my account leaving my game collection usless and me dow a couple of grand (potentialy I spend a fortune on games)?

As for Lan I'll be dissapointed but it's not a deal breaker.
Lack of internet connection would effect your ability to play or buy tons of console/PC games these days. I don't see that as a major point against steam in and of itself.

If you piss valve off enough that suspend your account, then you probably deserve the punishment they hold you to. It is really easy to play a game and not be inconsiderate/hateful/racist or whatever else may lead to some sort of ban.

I agree completely with your Lan statement, but I fail to see why it is a deal breaker to some when other options to play online exist. To me this statement screams illegal gaming practices.

You may not want a steam account..but there's nothing stopping you from removing it after you are done with the game in question. This effectively makes it much like uninstalling any other game you are done with. This is what I did when I bought a boxed copy of Half-Life 2 several years back. Eventually, I started using steam for game downloads and just keep the program on my computer, albeit with minimal settings so I don't get pop-ups and the like.

As for opposing the business practice...you have every right to avoid a game for this reason, I hope you stick to your guns and don't make exceptions.

The only kinda silly thing I have is that I won't play games in which you create the main character, if said character cannot be female.

For a time I refused to buy anything made my EA, but they started publishing games so good that I just gave up fighting.

"It's an unholy combination of Disney & Square Enix."

Wait. That's a perfect reason not to play the game.

I won't play any game that's disc and instruction booklet smell funny.
I like my game smell the way it is.
I love the new game smell![footnote]almost as good as the scent of collectable ice hockey cards[/footnote] They should have that on Steam-bought games as well.

OT: I don't play Dragon Age: Origins that often because I need to make so tough decisions in it, like selecting characters for party. Contemplating on that screen takes ages for me sometimes.

I don't play Civilization V that often because I know it'll keep my in its grip for so many hours at a time.

RDR because they made a zombie DLC, I dispise anything that tosses away its main premise for zombies.
Completely off topic, but...I love your avatar.

On topic: I refuse to play StarCraft because my exhusband is obsessed with it. Weird reason, I know, but what's even weirder is I'm an avid WoW player, I played the WarCrafts to death before WoW came out, and I'm murderous over Diablo 3 finally coming out, maybe. Hopefully.

I think it's silly when people refuse to play a game because they can't choose the gender of the main character. Personally, being a girl, I usually choose a female character if I'm given the option (with the sole exception of Morrowind, where I played a Kalam Mekhar clone as my head was swimming with Malazan awesomeness at the time). But I'm not going to avoid a game if it happens that I can only play a male character. If I did, I'd miss out on wonderful titles like Planescape: Torment and The Witcher (and Alpha Protocol, for that matter, which I quite enjoyed in spite of its issues). Yet I know people who have refused to play PS:T because they couldn't play a female Nameless One, TW because they couldn't play Geraltine, etc. I don't think it makes sense. It's about as daft to me as refusing to read a book because of the gender of the main character.

In terms of my own silly reasons for not playing games... I dunno - I tend not to go for anything outside of the RPG or strategy genres. But that's because I have limited gaming time and I only want to play games I know I'll like. (I'd only buy an average of, say, four games a year - not including gifts for friends.) I've even avoided buying games I'm fairly sure I'd like because I don't have time for them and I have no willpower (e.g. I still haven't played Oblivion because of how long it is - and I know I wouldn't be able to stop playing until I finished the main story). But I don't think that's super-silly, just a question of knowing myself.

Worst I've heard? 'the achievements are too hard!' or 'I can't 100% it!'

I may be a little obsessive about cheivo's, but basing what games you play or don't on them is a little insane.

Personally, any time a games marketing focuses on gore and/or sex to the exclusion of all else.

Tell me its 'like Baldurs gate, in 3D'? you got me interested!

Tell me its 'like Baldurs gate, with sex and blood', I feel insulted, like you beleive I'll only buy the game if your throwing blood at my face and waving tits at me.

So, despite the good reviews and my love of RPG's, still leary about dragon age.

Well I almost never refuse to play a game for stupid reasons.. except the popularity one, that gets me sometimes. but hey, I own reach so I cant be that bad yet.

But man, Ive brought and Played a game for a really STUPID reason. Yeah? wanna hear it? Dirge of Cerberus. Oh yeah, that's right. That faggy Vincent valentine game on the ps2.

Why? Because I'm a fanboy. Aaaaaaand the combat wasnt actually that bad really, fun even in a repetitive rpg kinda way. But the cutscenes made my eyes bleed and the level design was abominable and labyrinthine, just like the story. All to sate my inner squealing fanboy. Thats a stupid reason to play a game.

Word up about dragon age windy, its not so much GORE but there's some real emphasis on blood everywhere. Like diablo 2 lowest level of dungeon all over the walls kind of blood focus. and then there's this underlying feeling of unwholesomeness crawling around under the lord of the ring/dnd thematic fun. Like 70% of the time your led to believe that its just another joyful romp into the world of sword slinging and quest doing and provided you make your saving throws everything's gonna be OK. But then there's this dark disturbing 30% that occasionally pops up and reminds you that this is serious business. That everything is not necessarily ok, the baby eating horrors ARE on the quaint little towns doorstep and there's NOTHING you can do to save them! YOU FAILURE OF A MAN! WHY DID YOU LET THEM DIE!? like a drug trip that keeps going bad and then switching right back to happy times like nothing ever happened. Also the sex is totally optional and easily missed.

I don't want to play Starcraft 2 1v1 because I'm afraid I'll lose. Going on long winning streaks gets me thinking too much, and the pressure gets to me.
