People read books for fun - that doesn't mean it's ALL people want from books. So if this debate was about books you could say "Why can't we all just have fun anymore"?
None of the best games ever made have been *only* fun. Games are rich cultural experiences - they educate, enlighten, fascinate, intrigue, excite. Saying we ONLY want games to be fun is like saying we only want sugar in our diet. That's not healthy.
There's nothing wrong with having fun playing a game, or watching a TV show, or reading a book. But if that's all you ever get from the experience you're wasting your time. And if that's all you ever expect from the experience then you're not asking nearly enough from the artists producing the content, and not asking nearly enough from yourself.
