Yuke's Co. sits in the corner, bitterly wondering what the big deal is.

Heh, heh, not knocking the decision. It's neat. Just find it amusing how Maxis is finally doing something that wrestling games, literally the worst at this kind of thing, have been doing for years. Not sure if they allow it any more tho. Yuke's got softlocked by Visual Concepts.
Not recently, no. But to be fair, they just switched over to the new system to games ago, and it was only this year we were even able to make Lady Caws... so i figure with time, maybe it'll get there again?

If Yukes is bitter about anything its that all everyone does is pine for that fucking AKI system.
Ey!

Eyeyeyeyeyeyey!

Bruh. Don't knocketh the AKI system. It gave us Fight for New York!

and now it sits on the shelf because the company that owns it wants an obscene amount of money for anyone that wants to use it.

Theres a wrestling title on Steam that's trying it's damndest to be like it and firepro. it's on Early Access. I don't know how much promise it has cause I haven't played it.

Good, more options for more people to be represented. Even people not specifically interested in creating trans characters win, considering clothing and hairstyles are now available to both genders.

In doesn't save the Sims 4 from being incomplete garbage though, both vanilla Sims 2 and 3 currently have more content than the Sims 4 even with its current expansion packs.

Is it called "Action Arcade Wrestling?"
I saw a playthrough of a game called that by Two Best Friends Play. It was a glitchy unfinished mess, but it also had some surprisingly fluid animations and a promising fighting system that was very AKI-esque. I heard that the creator was working to make it a more complete product over the past year or so.

That's cool, it's always frustrating when games limit that because most hairstyles or clothing are pretty androgynous anyway so a lot of the choices can be used on either sex without it looking too out of place

Now I wish the Elder Scrolls series would get back to doing things that way, I liked rolling a battle mage character in a breast plate and a dress. Or even just a lady that wants to wear regular pants. Beats the hell out of magic transforming clothes that adhere to strict gender roles

In fact, I'm sad when games don't. I mean, what if I wanna make a badass swordsman who has the super-long female-only hair because why not? XD
My main character in WoW has always been a warlock with long white hair.

I think there is a big deference between a developer adding player freedom and Facebook being stupid.
Isn't it essentially the same thing though? Facebook allowed users more options. If you don't identify as a quad-gender demimasculine hyperboy, "male" and "female" still exist. Personally I'm fine with just "other" but that's me.
For one thing there are only two genders, "male" and "female", that is what the term "gender" refers to. Those other options are just "descriptors", some of which are arguably nonsensical.
Thank you for informing me.

I really didn't know. I don't play these types of games obviously. I just remember playing a wrestling game on the 64 that allowed me to make my own wrestler however I wanted, even a women with a moustache wearing a tutu and full body knight armour. Now that think about, it probably was just for humours sake. I think it was on 64.
You probably shouldn't listen to that without questioning it. As Saelune said, "gender" and "sex" aren't really the same thing, though they're often used interchangeably and it can be quite confusing. And even then, the entire field is still pretty poorly understood even by people who are more involved in it than just the general public, let alone those who are looking with disgust from the outside because they think that transgender or non-binary people are just "crazy".

WTF just happened!?! I think I pressed 'quote' on the wrong person. That previous post was meant to be for nomotog :p

Well, to not make this feel completely wasteful, I didn't know gender and sex weren't really the same, but it makes sense now that I'm reading the whole discussion here.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I don't have Sims 4, so it doesn't matter.

That said, if I do, I have very weird OCD, which normally isnt' a problem, but in games like "The Movies" where you can attach any hairstyle to any gender I always get annoyed. It's especially weird in The Movies, where the outfits are limited to each gender, but hair and makeup isn't. It's just jarring.

But if I'm looking for immersion in a Sims game, I'm probably doing it wrong.

The quote button has claimed another victim, it seems. That happened a lot when the update for this current layout went live, actually. XD

I usually screw something up when I post something late at night. Don't worry, I'm going soon!

I even thought the title said Sims 2 for some reason, thinking they were going back and making improvements on previous games.

Does the previous Sims games have restrictions? Are they planning to remove them? Didn't they already have same sex relationships and everything else? I swear I heard some news like that awhile ago. Anyone?

No. It's Pro Wrestling X.

As I understand it, it's been a project for several years now. 11 months ago the dev started over from scratch.

I think you mean sex, ie genitals and how we work to reproduce. Gender is more a social construct than the biological one that the sexes are.
No, I mean gender. Sex only refers to biological anatomy, gender is basically everything else indirectly associated with ones sex, that is what is meant by "social construct". Example: modern western society associates dresses and the colour pink with the female sex, that association is socially constructed, there is no real reason why the male sex cannot where dresses or pink.
But if gender is everything socially constructed around sex, why can't that change? I mean, since we have separated physical biology from gender (with the sex gender distinction) all that leaves is the social construct, what is to stop us from expanding the concept of gender to include more than just two? I mean, these traits might be associated with sex still, like your pink/dress example, but they are ultimately still societal constructed traits, arbitrary lines humans have created to categorize things.

Basically, we drew the lines. Why can't we add another? Or a hundred others?

Well it's still loosely linked to sex, but why would you want more anyway? There's enough problems with two. As I see it the way forward would be to tear gender down, if anything.

Why would this be controversial? Usually people have to resort to mods to make this possible. It's great when a company decides to do it on their own. And if you don't like it, then you don't have to use it.

Options are good, period. People gonna ***** though. I sometimes think that the post-cold war world is missing a constant crisis to which to devote energy and thus is why so many people find such minutia to take issue with.

Every time I see an EA Exclusivity news article it just makes me sad. It all started with Bioware, back in the day they made kickass games that happened to be inclusive. Nowadays they keep making s*** that seems to be worse with every iteration and the only thing that makes the news nowadays is that they keep doing the socially inclusive thing.

I'll be out playing The Sims 3. Wake me up when they release a sequel or next installment of something that's actually an improvement.
