you know what? I'm mad

I'm mad that we even have to say that, that its not painfully obvious, or an accepted fact

some time ago there always seemed to be some kind of "doomsday" thing in regards to games, somthing that was going to make it all come crashing down weather it was DRM,PC gaming dying, dumbing down, casual games, the publishers or whatever

now this on the other hand, this actually concerns me....all that other bullshit I may not like but to be honest with myself I would adapt, I could begrudgingly deal with it

this though....this would single handedly kill gaming for me

this THING with being "connected" facebook..twitter...all that bullshit, this obsession with multilayer

playing with strangers I don;t like, for obvious reasons like as Jim , said I dont want to have to worry about wane_ker238 jumping around and teabgging NPC's while I'm trying to listen to the NPC's and actually give a crap about the story....I don't want to have to worry about wane_ker238 running off or shooting me

on the flipside Ive also met some nice people online...but I dont like being "responsible" for the other persons enjoyment, I don't like the added pressure to not suck, and I dont game to have awkward social interaction, you could say "who cares? you dont have to meet them again" <-but thats just not how I roll

and palying with friends? well see heres the thing and perhaps the root of my argument....I don't have any friends

because of that it feels like the industry doesnt like me....like the industry is making me "left out" of my own godamn interest, the industry has become the popular kids with their iphones, their facebook...and I can't sit at their table, and that kind of hurts in a way

I know this is far from true thease days...its just a trend I find genuinly worrying

and can I also stress that just because a game includes co-op as an option does NOT mean the single will suck because of said co-op....just compare Borderlands 1 to Borderlands 2 (the latter being a good game without another person

overall if you want to summary just replace "lemmons" with multiplayer and "life" with "games industry"

Single player games are good,as also multiplayer games are good.
Depending on the mood I do both at times.
I've enjoyed very much playing Dishonored,as I did enjoyed playing Quake Live.

I don't see why some people say one is better than the other,as both are good and each one has its own reason for existing and targets to provide a different kind of experience to the player.

Online multiplayer is all about competition. It's for you that you want to compete with other people, but don't want to get your body sweat.

Single player is about spending time when you are alone in home and you want to get immersed and be part in a story.

The type of fan each is offering is different and we shouldn't compare each other.

Now I will say that I hate EA for its approach to multiplayer and singleplayer. It is because it boldly stated that it won't publish any game if it doesn't feature online multiplayer, basically forcing developers to tack on multiplayer on their games and spend time and resources that could be used on the single player on multiplayer,if the developer wants to see its game published. That kind of blackmailing "ONLINE PASS OR GTFO" is despicable.

I've said it before and i'll say it again.

The day games all go multiplayer is the day I stop buying them.

I play games to take a break from people, full stop no two ways about it.

I see a hell of a lot of folk in my daily life and me and my friends have different schedules that prevent "gaming together". Plus we don't want to. We play games to take a break from socialising. It's the one thing I do where I can relax and not have to deal with anyone else.

My quiet time if you will.

It doesn't bother me and there are plenty of games out already to keep me going but the day multiplayer becomes integral to doing what would have otherwise been a single player game is the day I no longer buy new games.

wait isn't this the second mad thread you have had? i mean we first had the piracy thread and now we have this, did you snap or something? did somebody download bad porn on your computer? what!?

anyway on topic, i warned you people, the masses were no good for us, although its not their fault of course, its the publishers as usual, they wanna appeal to these guys so they put in facebook connect in hopes they will buy them. kinda silly really, none of my previous classmates (males and females 16-17 years) dont actually use that, except for one guy and we all told him to stop it, turns out he couldn't do it because of some weird issues. we later got it fixed though and thank god for that.

Is there anybody other than EA who's hell-bent on turning everything into multiplayer? I haven't been noticing a significant lack of single player titles recently, despite all the talk. All I've noticed is that a formally single player franchise (Sim City) is going to be a multiplayer only in its latest release. That's cool, because I'm fine with not buying that game.

If all the big publishers stopped making single player games, then that market wouldn't just disappear. There's plenty of indie developers willing to take our money instead. So EA isn't making games for me any more; big deal, I just won't buy their games then.

you do have a point...no other publisher seems to be as "DERP" about it...though assasins creed series has had the needless addition of multiplery (arguably at NO cost to their single player...but it does always make me raise my eyebrows)

EDIT: and there IS uncharted and the upcoming tomb raider

it really is depressing since EA own Bioware who are primarily single player focused

There's still singleplayer and I've honestly played very few games that force the multiplayer on me.
I think we'll be fine.

I play these games to get away from people as well. I do enjoy playing TF2, and I have played some co-op games with friends, but single-player is where the real gaming is - getting lost in a completely virtual world without worrying about some RL people getting in the way.

I'm not worried about the overload of multiplayer and social elements being crammed where they don't belong, because it seems to affect only high-profile AAA games, which I find myself playing less and less in favor of indie games and older games. The developers of the latter types of games know what we want and deliver it well.

The AAA industry loves multiplayer because it looks good to people who don't play buy enough games - yet. Singeplayer is all about unsociable loners crouched in the proverbial basement, whereas multiplayer is woo, party time, dude! Get some cokes and some pringles and hang out with your bros and your best girl! Y'know, just like watching sports or like a real hobby - one that doesn't have a massive inferiority complex about its public perception.

Also, as we all know, giving your game multiplayer AND co-op will make it the next Call of Duty and it will sell 5 million copies. Just wait and see Dead Space 3 do exactly that. Or, y'know, not do that and kill the franchise.

Let's hope it's just a phase they're going through. If it fails to pay off often enough then maybe they'll stop trying to hammer every game into one increasingly generic mold.

the only problem with multilayer is that you won't find humans.
lol i tried some multiplier games and people there was more scripted than npc of game, and more annoying too, they did their daily routine Everyday, then come's the weakly routine, and then come's insulting other's (mind you, they never insulted me) all they did was grinding.
also i find some very good friend too, but it was so rare i rather find better place for friends :).
people are so obsessed with finding items, that they forget the whole thing is a game so you have some fun.
i keep playing SP

Dead Space 2 already had tacked on multiplayer and that didnt kill it....at least in this case its optional co-op..so we'll wait and see

not always at the expense of good single player tehcnically

but something like that is hard to measure

I wouldn't worry about it. It's all just a fad in order to capture the facebook/twitter/casual audience. When EA and others discover that the market they are attempting to pursue with these features doesn't exist. It will go away.

Oh, chill.

Single player games aren't going anywhere in a hurry.

Worst case scenario we'll keep getting uninteresting multiplayer components being tacked on (a la Bioshock 2 and Spec Ops: The line) and the occasional 'Click here to share your score with your hundreds of close friends on Facebook!' feature. Mildly annoying at worst.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to replaying Dishonored. Maybe after that I'll do another playthrough of Walking Dead. Or maybe an 'Impossible' run on XCOM. Never finished Hitman Absolution either. Oh, and I never did get round to even starting Quantum Conundrum. Gosh, so many single player games coming out recently that I can't even play them all!

Have you not been keeping up with the news Vault?

EA expect Dead Space 2 to sell 5 million copies because of the money they put into it.

If it doesn't sell 5 million copies then the franchise is practically dead and we probably won't ever see another Dead Space game.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/EA-Says-Dead-Space-3-Has-Sell-5-Million-Survive-43629.html
http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/15/dead-space-needs-around-five-million-fans-to-survive-according-to-ea/
http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/dead-space-3/8388/dead-space-3-needs-to-sell-5-million-units-to-be-viable/550919/

The other 2 games sold no where near 5 million so the chances of this one racking up those numbers are slim to none.

Expect to be waving goodbye to Dead Space.

It wouldn't actually be half as bad if I could find ppl to play with rather than having to rely on bots. SP / MP games are usually dead within a month. There are just too many MP games out there to keep the lobbies filled, that's a big reason why everyone is jumping on the f2p bandwagon as they need to attract ppl to keep the servers alive.

That's why consoles / PC need to do more about bringing together ppl with similar tastes in games. Cross platform play is something that we are in dire need of rather then all these multiplatform releases of MP games that does nothing but fracture it's playerbase into unsustainable numbers.

But I doubt that'll happen considering gamers are buying the same game on multiple platforms so they can find ppl to play with.

Far Cry 3? Terrible multiplayer.
Mass Effect 3? I loved that multiplayer
Zombiu? Dishonored? New Tomb Raider? I didn't even know these games HAD multiplayer until I read this thread.
To be honest I don't play multiplayer too much and it leaves me alone.
The thing I really hate is when games get you to sign up to their own programme... XBL/PSN/Steam I understand, but I don't want Origin! Or U-play! And like hell do I NOT want to connect these things to Facebook and spam my friends about how I got the achievement 'turned on game'.

I knew that, but lets be honest here I don't think the world will suffer if there is no dead space four (hell the amount of bitching I hear about sequels I'm surprised people aren't happy) as for what EA said I'm still not sure they will stand by it 100% i mean it was pretty retarded even for EA, if they are serious what are you gonna do? You can't reason with kind of insanity

My point is if dead space dies it won't be because of its co op, it will be beaches ea are stupid
