I mostly prefer single-player, but I play WoW occasionally, even if I generally ignore everybody and just do my own thing.

It would take a large some of money.
I dont like MMO'S because most of them you have to grind a hell of a lot to level up.

If you can name me an MMO that is free to play online, where people aren't completely immature on every server, and where combat is real time, then by all means, let me know and I will play it.
Dungeons & Dragons Online [http://www.ddo.com/] meet at least two out of three: the game has real time combat and is free but has some content locked unless you either 1) subscribe or 2) buy it (in which case you have access to it indefinitely). Oh, and it's a triple-A MMO by Turbine; it's not garbage like most F2P games.

As for the community, it's really good for an online community (ie I would rate this community far better than most MMOs' community) but I don't know if it's good enough to qualify for "where people aren't completely immature on every server." I mean, there is a lot of quality people but, you know, you do run into some jerks from time to time.

I suggest you give it a try. Nothing to lose, really; it's free.

Some kind of guarantee that I wouldn't become utterly life-destroyingly addicted to it.
That's what WoWs for. You'll quickly quit in disgust.

Cash. Lots of cash. I hate MMOs. I don't know why, but I've always been extremely bent on playing games by myself. Mario 3 on 2 player mode sucked ASS because, no matter what, the 2nd player always got the boot level... and that's one of my favourite levels of all time. That, and they always got all the mushroom houses. I know Mario 3 wasn't an MMO, but it all stems back to my current love of gaming alone.

No monthly charge I would put up with a yearly charge though I prefer none at all.

There was a MMO based on The World.

I had some people I knew to play with because I'm god-awful at talking to people online and just usually keep my mouth shut.

It would take a lot, I don't like the whole turn-based thing and there isn't a lot that interest me. The Matrix Online interested me years ago but it kind of faded away for me. Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, Warhammer are all interesting, but not enough to push me over the edge, and I'd never find the time to actually put into it.

Thanks, I will! I don't expect every person online to be mature, but it helps when the majority is.

Reasons I don't play MMO's:

1. Monthly Subscriptions
- I will not pay monthly for a game. Sorry, but I'm not that rich. I know there's free MMO's like Guild Wars which I have tried but there are other reasons besides the money, such as:
2. I hate people online
- The majority of people online I found are spambots, teabaggers, l33t5pe@ker5, or 12 years old and it just got annoying
3. Combat
- Most MMO combat is based on a Point, Click, and Queue system which I just can't stand. I really hate the idea of not being able to add my own personal skill to a game, such as something as simple as AIMING. Simple clicking and queuing my next 25 attacks and waiting for them to render is just not fun for me.

If you can name me an MMO that is free to play online, where people aren't completely immature on every server, and where combat is real time, then by all means, let me know and I will play it.
Might want to try Mabinogi, BlindMessiah. It fits your prerequisites well enough, send me a message later and I'll give you info if your interested.

It'd take...

1) An MMO that my laptop can handle without exploding
2) An MMO without subscription fees, or with an affordable lifetime subscription (on the order of $60, not $200)

Still, I just don't think MMOs are my thing, really. I like the single-player experience.
