I good (bordering on great) game with undeniable creativity and charm, only let down by a few foolish design choices and occasionally iffy controls. You should still all rush out and buy it immediately, of course.

I originally bought this game when it came out, but gave it to a friend as a present. Then I bought it again on Xbox Live and after accomplishing the finger inbetween the 3rd and 4th fingers of your hand squeeze pain challenge set by Yahtzee for my idiocy, I freely admit it's simply one of the most unique and creative games out there. Let's face it though, it has its problems, but they are easily overlooked. Even after the frustrating moments I still loved it, and it's rare for me to completely love a game without feeling frustration. Psychonauts is simply too much of a joy to criticise, because if you did hate it, you have less of a soul than even I do. Good review. My only gripes with the game is the sometimes awkward camera and the lack of a map. Still, I was in awe most of the way through. It makes such a change from the idiotic, mindless, lazy games of today. The only other game I thought came close to Psychonauts was BioShock, and I love that game probably too much.

I love this game so much I had to comment on it. I haven't played Brutal Legends and I doubt I will but as far as Tim Schafer goes this was gaming gold. I wish adventure gaming like this would make a stronger come back, it'll be nice to see games like these on the shelves next to the heavy hitters like Halo, Mass Effect and Diablo.

You're obviously putting a lot of thought and effort into your writing, so the only thing to do from here is to condense your words a bit. Try to use less words to achieve more. That is, if you have goals of being a professional reviewer. Give yourself a word quota to work with and see if you can cover everything within the limited space. This is simply for the fact that as a professional reviewer, word quotas and length limits are a harsh reality that you have to come to terms with before you find yourself in a situation where you feel crippled by restrictions.

You're doing well, but that would be the next step if you want to go down that path.

Your review is very good, but it particularly caters to those who are already familiar with the game and are fans. It might not be obvious, but it is, because you go into way too much detail about small things that mean little or nothing to somebody who has not yet played it. Your review is great for a forum because you are vocalizing an opinion on every nook and cranny and the fans will love as much exposure to their beloved game as they can get, so they can compare their opinions and discuss, but this does not work quite so well as an official magazine column. It's more of an article, by a fan and for the fans.

That's not meant to be discouraging, though, but rather to identify what you have written, and if that's what you set out to accomplish, then you've succeeded, and that's fine and valid. But when I see how much effort you put in, I can't help but consider the possibility that you're interested in being a reviewer, and that requires a few guidelines you need to consider. So, the best thing you can do for yourself from here is to give yourself a word limit and see if you can be just as effective a writer in fewer words.

I loved this game. I laughed and enjoyed it's strange humor and was worth every cent I paid

Great review, and that trailer makes me regret not getting it. I only heard about it after the zp review. Thankfully it's on xbox live, so I shall play it before long.

I will admit that I didn't buy it till after ZP's review, but I was very curious before then because Steven Horvitz (Invader Zimm, Pox from DAH!) was in it. ZP just sealed the deal.

ONE OF THE BEST FREAKIN GAMES IN THE UNIVERSE MADE BY HUMANS!

did you know that Super Mario Galaxy robbed the Idea of the Cube level in Agent Nein head for their game....

Psychonauts is indeed Original.

What I'm saying is that everyone (everyone who will read the review, anyways) already knows that Psyconaughts is fantastic, and not at all childish. It's sort of become an "internet forum darling", as much as Halo has become bashed on internet forums. Maybe "diamond in the rough" was the wrong choice of words, but I think you get what I mean. Psychonaughts is no un-known game at this point, at least not on the Escapist or to any gamer.

My experience with the game was favorable, so I can assure you that what I've said above has nothing to do with my time playing the game. I played the game on both my PC and as an XBox original on my 360, and while the 360 is the better version, it still has a funky difficulty level. I wanted to keep playing the game, but after the 50th try, I just gave up. Maybe I'm just not as good at the game as you, eh? :)
I see your point!. Certainly the game isn't lacking in its fandom department but once again (usually with Tim Schafer games) it hasn't reached a wider audience base. It's just like with Grim Fandango, Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle. All marvelous games but not many have played it. At least with Psychonauts people have very little reason not to buy it. It's almost going away for free.

Oh and for the record, I am horrible with platformers, FPS's, RTS's and most forms of gaming. Somehow though, I pulled through to finish this game.
yeah, i remember how many hours and times i replayed the last level... freakin hard it was...

Sweet Jesus I remember this game when I was in highschool, best game I ever payed money for to be frank. It did have an odd difficulty curve but by golly it was hilarious all the way through.

Very well written, this review does the game justice.

Bought it, played it, finished it. Casually. It didn't keep me up all night, and that's usually not a very good sign. Don't get me wrong, it was fairly entertaining, but once you realise that 90% of the humour in the game comes from characters having different versions of the same dialogue, whose main comedic ingredient is awkwardness, it gets old fast. I saw very little of the Tim Schaffer that I know there. The fiendishly clever, subtle cynicism of Grim Fandango and Full Throttle that I fell in love with was nowhere to be found. I still did laugh though, some bits and pieces were so well voice acted that you couldn't help it, like that Russian kid. "Can't lurk forever. Bear."

The game really needs a minimap but yes yes and yes. This is a brilliant and hilarious game, anyone who hasn't played it yet is clearly leading a shambled and sorry excuse for a life. Get on this game now and enjoy it. Excellent review again Skarin, loved it greatly
