Several of my peers and friends skip VERY often. Some people have as many as 20 absences in just a single semester. Yet they are all on track to graduate, because of the several make up programs our school offers.
Wow, compared to your school, our school is really strict on absences. 9 in one trimester and you fail, no exceptions. 'Excused' absences (doctor appointments, funerals, ect.) don't count toward those 9.
I'm not really sure what to suggest. My only advice would be not to TRY to spend all of that $250 just because you want to have a good time. If your fun isn't dependent on money (which is really shouldn't be), then don't spend it. Don't be all like "this is supposed to be, liek, teh best day evar, ima spend all muh cash-moneyz!"
But fuck people, can we hold off on the life advice please? It's one fucking day, and it's near the end of the year when it's all review. You are acting like he's throwing his life away or something. I highly doubt any college is going to cross his name off because of one day of missed school, especially since they probably won't bother to look up, or have access to, the details as to why he wasn't at school for one day.
I occasionally "skip" school, although it's not a "woooo skip school and party" kind of thing. There are sometimes just days where I'm really tired and want a break from the overwhelming atmosphere school sometimes creates. I usually just sleep. Most of the time I just go in late. My schedule is mostly good for that, as the first half of my day consists of band classes, where my absence usually isn't that big of a deal and there's no homework, quizes, tests or anything. And I usually stay conscious of what's going on and make sure I'm there during, for example, the week before an upcoming performance.
Plus there's the occasional "I'm doing nothing in all of my classes and there's no reason for me to be there" skip. Like when 80% of the classes paid to go to Washington DC, 3 of the days they were there landed on school days. During those days, we were going to watch movies and generally do nothing. I didn't go.
