Demo was meh. Not very fluid. Characters handled like they were carrying 50 lb weights. A pity, but that's a no purchase for me.

I await Persona 4 Ultimate Mayonaka Arena (from the creators of Guilty Gear).

Might consider Arcana Heart 3 as far as downloadable fighting games...

Agreed.
Arcana Heart 3=awesomesauce I will kick your butt with Eiko and her crayon man.

I'm sorry to hear that it doesn't hold up in the... "being approachable to newcomers" department. I hope I'm better at fighting games than I think...
The sad thing is, its advertised to be like that.

Looking at the movesets, most of the moves involve just a quarter circle and a button or two, which is fine and all but when you can't even execute said moves because all the dialogue might as well be "THIS IS PRISON AND YOU JUST DROPPED THE SOAP *****!!!" even on easy it just turns people away.

8 characters are launch along with 'Paid DLC'. Lots and lots of paid dlc to add characters.
I see no indication that the game is even getting DLC. This is an inde title by two guys, not something funded and dictated by the likes of EA.
Taken from the FAQ on the official website -

Q: Will the game have DLC?

A: Yes. There will be paid DLC for characters
Q: Are all the playable characters girls?

A: For now, yes. As DLC characters are released, playable male characters will be added to the roster, as well.
Q: How many characters will be in the game?

A: Around eight characters will be in the game at launch, with more coming as paid DLC in the months to follow.

Sounds like nothing more than a massive cash grab under the guise of a 'tournament' fighting game.

You can't make a competitive fighting game and hold back half the characters. I'd understand if it were a free to play game, but it's not.
Unfortunately theres the case of waiting for the updated rerelease instead of the DLC. If you wanted in on this series (you obviously dont, but bear with me) would you rather be fed a selection of optional DLC over a year, or feel obligated to buy the second edition of the game whenever that came out?

This is a new IP, dont be so quick to judge just because its choosing to do things its predecessors were not able to do when they were rising to power.

Well, I would like to give it a chance since I do enjoy the old fisticuffs in games, but apparently the devs don't like Europe =(

More like Sony EU doesn't like Europe. It's not RevengeLabs' fault that Sony takes ages to approve some of the games.

I never understood why Sony hates us so much. We're apparently their biggest market [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Console_wars#Worldwide_sales_figures_6].

I really like it. Really hope it'll be at EVO. I despise the crap out of everyone who plays Cerebella though, she's like the Anti-Filia. Plus I've always hated grapple heavy characters.

The air dash! It does nothing! And if she lands that grab super where she impales your character on a sword? That's it, game over bar a few more finger exercises. No way you can comeback from that much bullshit damage.

I really need to stop spamming air dash into jumping medium as my only way in with Filia... *guy pulls out any anti-air* OH SHI-*failure*

So you either play alone with your crappy roster, or you pay no doubt a ton of cash just to play with other people on an even level.

I really do miss the days when you bought a game and actually got all the fuckin' content, instead of getting half a game and having to pay extra for the rest.
No. Sorry. You can't possibly compare an indie studio composed of a man who loves his fighting games and a handful of his friends to, say, Capcom and their SFxT debacle. These guys poured all their resources and time into this game. The characters that are missing, are REALLY missing due to budget and time constraints. If they do come as DLC down the line, I'm confident they'll be reasonably priced.

Even if they didn't I'll always prefer a small, balanced cast (BlazBlue) to a 50+ cast of which maybe 7 are viable (UMvC3).

On topic though, I'll probably get it once it hits the European PSN. EVO side tournament all but confirmed btw.

Quite disappointing, movement is the opposite of clean and fluid combined with visually unappealing characters which only add to the messiness. What the hell is up with those weird limbs too?

Shame, I was really impressed by the music, menu design and overall theme up until the game proper started.

Avoid this overhyped dross and stick with proper retail releases as they're a class above.

What exactly do you find wrong with the movement? I think it works perfectly well, then again I spent all my time in UMVC3 playing Phoenix Wright AKA the guy with the worst mobility ever created. So maybe the fact that Filia has an air dash just makes me go "Oh shit i can move! Wooooooooooooo!" for no reason.

The fighting feels really good as well, landing my pretty basic 20ish hit Filia combo feels better than all of the crazy DHC combos in UMVC3 combined... I like how you can go the launcher into air combo route or you can just stick to ground combos can do basically the same amount of damage. Personal combo preference? In my Fighting Games?! Preposterous!

And GGPO seems to actually work properly since online games with people from your country are practically lag free.

Finally why is Peacock's keepaway easier to beat than Parasoul's keepaway with Filia? Damn Napalm Shots! Well Peacock/Double teams not included because they are offically unbeatable with that Double super armour assist. I'm not even kidding...

I just bought it and I feel a bit ripped off. Don't get me wrong this is exactly the kind of game (and fighting game) I absolutely adore. But just 8 fighters..!? If the rest of the game was going to be DLC, then it should have been $10, not $15.

How is that an issue? We've known that they were going for quality over quantity for months. BlazBlue had 12 fighters and it retailed at 60$, but it was considered a great fighting game. The number of fighters is really irrelevant if the ones available are unique.

I'm with you. This is a great fighting game, worth every penny, and I'm looking forward to the DLC announcements. I LOVE Ms. Fortune! She flows so well, and is so fast! Plus, her quotes...

"Can I have a cheeseburger?"
"Sufferin' Succotash!"
"Curiosity can't kill me!"

IT's been SO long since we got such a well polished and imaginative fighting game developed here in the west, and I really hope that this game sells well enough to keep the company afloat to produce more great games.

The game is awesome, but be warned there's a steeeeeep learning curve. But once you get into the rhythm (and print out this guide http://skullgirls.com/game/guides/) you'll have an amazing time.

I was so salty on launch day for this game. I went to a launch party hoping to organize a little tournament and only like 5 people showed up, and they were all bad anyway :(

This threat is disheartening, hate to see game commentary descend into a bunch of buzzwords, fluid, flow, clean-ness? Even speed is a buzzword in the hands of scrubs, since we don't even know the frame data. Airdashes and and running are pretty slow to be fair, probably to balance out that you can cancel air normals into a dash. It's definitely still easier to open people up than with most characters Blazblue.

Finally go it. A little unorthodox, but I think I'll enjoy it.

I normally don't go for "heavy" characters, goddamn Cerebella's fun to use.

Actually, Blazblue never sold over $50(US), even the Limited Edition of Calamity Trigger.

Also, to the person you're quoting, there have have been other fighters with miniscule character entries long before this or Blazblue: Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Battle Fantasia immediately come to mind.

Sorry but no, the number of fighters is extremely relevant. Having a few more fighters can mean the difference between months of added play time, as keeping the circulation fresh means you will have more fun, and you will have more fun against who you are fighting. While I certainly didn't expect it to be like the Marvel vs. series, I at least expected 10/12 fighters. That seems like a fair standard now, most PS1/SNES/Genesis games had at least 10, because they knew the games would get stale without at least some more characters(and with secret characters many of those games had a lot more). And for the record we only got 7 fighters, one is just an MK1 Shang Tsung. It's a pity to, seeing her standing and walking animations I am convinced she could have been the most amazing character on there.

It also doesn't help that they purposely made their character select screen appear so barren. It's very jarring every time I see it, and just emphasizes the feeling that there should be more here.

Pardon me if I sound like a dick, but fighting games were always made with the "fighting gamer", if you will, in mind. You try to make the game "more accessible" to newcomers then you run risk of the game being "scrubby" (e.g. U/MvC3 and DoA). Conversely, you make the game too "feature-rich", then you're only gonna have a small pool of people playing since everyone else will find the game mechanics themselves too difficult to grasp (Guilty Gear, Virtua Fighter, and to some extent SF3 for example).

A good 1/3 of my game library is fighters from all-around, and I've been playing them for the better half of my 25 years of existence, so maybe I'm just used to them. The timing and hit properties are taking a while to get used to, but it's not a big deal for me.

Maybe you just need some time in the lab. A little bit of practice might turn your gripes into a non-issue. Unless you've already moved on, in which case feel free to disregard this message.

I have it and i am having fun with it. I actually like that it does not hold your hand It lets you figure combos and character nuances out on your own.
I hate fighting games that do that. How the fuck are we supposed to just "figure out" how to do all the combos?

Street fighter and the old Mortal Kombats are the guiltiest of this crime. I have an 8 direction joystick and 6 fucking buttons for attacks, all of which need to be pressed in a CERTAIN combination of buttons and joystick maneuvers within PERFECT timing of eachother. Oh, and the combos can be almost ANY NUMBER of buttons and joysticks movements. Seriously, it would take you MONTHS of just sitting in front of an arcade machine mashing the buttons and joysticks, hoping you did it all perfectly, and writing down on a piece of paper what combos did shit and what didn't. Maybe, you know, so long as you timed it all perfectly and didn't accidentally miss out on any combos.

The new Mortal Kombat did it right. Simple Combos and an in game LIST of how to do them on demand, plus if you wanted to do a totally sweet bonebreaking move, all you had to do was pull both triggers.

Skullgirls looks cool, but if it's going to regress down the evolutionary ladder of fighting games, I think I'll pass.

Also, only 8 characters with plans to release the rest as DLC?
That ain't worth 15$
