Loving Skyrim, but i can't help but feel that the Dark Brotherhood quest line was a bit...underwhelming.

For me the Dark Brotherhood quests in Oblivion were far more enjoyable.

What are your thoughts?

I thought the entire plot was interesting but it was too damn short :( I kinda wish that (Big spoiler ahead)

we got to know the members better before the empire killed most of them. I mean really it was just

Babette- Vampire loli, who happens to make potions
The sarcastic redguard who trains you light armour
The werewolf who i thought was pretty badass but didnt get enough screen time
Astrid, who didnt like the old brotherhood ways one bit
The Argonian who I absolutely loved but once again, didnt get enough characterisation
The crazy mage
The dark elf
And that spider thing

It was a little dissapointing , especially since they were all so delightfully twisted

:(

The assassinations didn't have anything on the Oblivion ones, although I found the story itself plenty enjoyable (although I still preferred Oblivion's).

But yeah, there's certainly nothing as good as the hit in the manor house in Skingrad.

having all that happen was frustrating as hell. But i juts wasn't drawn into it as much as in Oblivion.

Although i was overjoyed when

i got to kill cicero, that guy was infruriating and unbelievably annoying.

Yes, playing And Then There Were None was the best mission in Oblivion.
OP: Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood was way better for individual quests, but I like the storyline of Skyrim's more.

I'm really pleased with the the Cicero character; you (probably) first meet him quite early in the game as an seemingly innocent crazy guy transporting his 'mother'.

Then you find out he's a Keeper of the Dark Brotherhood.

His journals do a great job exposing his past (as well as the Dark Brotherhood's). Also, his armor is sweet.

yeah, I thought he was too, but then taking a second look he is quite a funny character, and potentially terrifying seeing as thats the persona he uses to get close to people and murder the shit out of them with o.o

He is my favorite Dark Brotherhood member. I was relieved to hear that Sithis didn't want me to kill him. An identical set of his armor is lying on the table to the left of you when you enter the Dawnstar Sanctuary.

Its not as good though :( his is slightly better. And I feel bad that I didnt listen to Sithis the first time :(

I was quite pleased to even see a Skyrim character in a jester suit (at first I thought Cicero was probably a disciple of Sheogorath or something); I recall 'Jester' sprites were in the older 2D elder scrolls games, like the Spymasters of the old Dark Brotherhood or Thieves Guilds in daggerfall.

Yeah, if you summon Lachance's ghost, he says that Sithis does not desire Cicero's death. You get Cicero as a companion later on which is fun.

I really would have liked for some of them to survive. Arnbjorn was badass. The quest was more "epic" than the Oblivion one, I guess but not as enjoyable. They were simple killings instead of actually feeling like cloak and dagger assassin business.

And I felt that the quest to get into the Brotherhood (Innocent Lost) was really railroaded. It's impossible to role-play an interested yet good character in it.

I thought Cicero was annoying and the mother was damn creepy especially up close. Wonder what would happen to the two if you kill everyone.

Considering your ultimate target, I'd say that the Skyrim DB takes the cake for grandest side quest. I thought your role in the assassination of [REDACTED] had more of an impact on the Elder Scrolls world than the main quest did. Having said that, I do miss some of the variety that Oblivion DB had (The dinner party mission is still my favorite mission in the game). But, come on, this DB storyline was just earthshattering.

I mean, for Talos' sake, you murder the [REDACTED] of [REDACTED]! The entire CONTINENT is affected!

I know! The world will never be the same after you killed that famous cook. Let bland food spread across the continent! Mwahahahaha!

i will admit, assasinating that particular person is quite epic, but as you said it didnt have that creativeness of the oblivion quests. You mirror my opinion in that the dinner party quest was one of the best, (if not the best)quests in the game. i felt the DB in skyrim lacked a bit of creativity. it kinda went all in to the final target.

Amen, Brother.
They had little less fun contracts, but from the perspective, the brotherhood had fallen down to the lowest of possible situations so not many people were praying to the nightmother anymore. Thus less fun contracts... I guess?

They did make me walk more in this game though.

Yeah Lucien said something about how killing Cicero wasnt Sithis' will moments before some spikes killed him, so I wasnt sure what I heard. Also I kinda wanted Cicero's dagger, if only id known you get the blade of woe in the next mission :(

I thought all the faction quest lines(apart from Stormcloak/Imperial, haven't done those yet) were extremely underwhelming. Every time they ended and I got appointed the new chief I couldn't understand why they made that choice. Didn't feel like I had proven myself.
Don't remember how long the quest lines were in Oblivion, but here they seem to average on about six quests. Feels really dull.

I kind of wanted to put Falcor in charge of the College. Sure his absent minded, but his the safety-first dislike Thalmor type of guy. Who still tolerates a pretty liberal policy on spellcasting. The player is absent 99-100% of the time after finishing the college quests and getting his spells learned anyhow. I thought the old guy was an awesome choice and you the awful one.

But I partially disagree on the Brotherhood. The intro to that thing was awesome. The kid doing that dark ritual actually was pretty neat for a Bethesda quest.
