Skyrim: Get or Not Get

Skyrim is currently discounted by 50% on Steam, and the discount goes in 15 hours. I've heard good things about the game, but also gripes about the imbalanced in-game economy, the constant bugs and the fact that it's 'overrated'.
Come on Escapists, win me over. Should I buy it?

You lost me there. I wasn't aware that Skyrim had a "player economy," unless you're referring to the fact that you can become massively wealthy entirely from selling loot you find in dungeons, which is pretty much par for the course in western RPGs.

I have 300ish hours in the game, and not once have I encountered a bug that didn't sort itself out or that I couldn't work around with little effort. With those hesitations out of the way, you should definitely get it.

get it. it's a great game and you're likely to get 100+ hours of entertainment from it. Though you could probably wait until xmas if you're undecided, it's likely to go on sale again.

If you're gonna buy it, know that it has no gameplay depth. It is a cool world, with a ton of lore, so if that's what you want, get it. But the gameplay is fudging awful.

Overrated? Yes I admit it is a little bit overrated, but I still had around 80 hours ofexploring an interesting world and all that crap... I say its worth it. Pretty good game, but not the best of the best.

Theres also mods, if you are into that... I personally hate mods, and EVEN THEN Skyrim lasted 80 hours for me. Again, pretty damn good.

It's an excellent sandbox, and if you like sandbox settings, you'll love it.

If you want fun combat or a challenging experience, or anything like that...skip it.

TES is one of my favorite series, but it has a lot of flaws.

It's a huge world which is serviceable in visuals, I find the game play sorely lacking. Combat is a glorified whack a mole and completely brainless. The perks you get are things you should already have or completely pointless. The world is extremely static as well. If your find with just running around than it's fun but engagement is piss poor.

I've never even heard of problems with the in-game economy, it's just fine.
Most bugs have been taken care of.
The game is definitely NOT overrated.
Get it and get it now.

Skyrim is full of problems and flaws. However, by the time these become a big deal (excepting the interface issues, which are a big problem from the beginning), you've already put enough time into the game to easily have gotten your money's worth.

It's not the best game out there, but the amount of stuff in it is well worth the price of admission. And that's not even factoring in mods.

Get it, but hold off on buying DLC until you're further into the game. It's a big, beautiful world and you'll never forget the first time you spot a dragon in the distance fighting random wildlife or roaming bandits. I say hold off on DLC because the Dawnguard are kinda kill-happy and can kill NPCs you may need later, unless you like that sort of thing in an open-world game, added dynamic risk n all.

I lost interest in the game well before completing it, but after playing a hundred hours. Especially with some of the Steam mods -- nutrition and temperature ones, in particular -- it's a pretty entertaining and pleasant experience, often surprisingly restful. If you've gotten out of the habit of hiking, but used to enjoy it, you might find it worth playing.

You won't get interesting conversations or memorable characters anywhere in the game -- this is just Bethesda, not Bioware or old-school Square -- but if it's on sale, and if you haven't played one or more of the other _Elder Scrolls_ games to exhaustion, it's probably worth it.

(And to balance out my ambivalence and doubt above, let me say that I'm almost certainly going to buy _TES5: Summerset Isle_ on launch day, and I continue to hope that they'll eventually set a game in Khajiitistan.)

It's a fun game and well worth the asking price. It's not especially deep or challenging, but it's great fun.

It's a pretty fun game.

But, don't expect any major world changing events to happen because of what you do in quests, some thing will happen, but you wont be blowing up megaton.

It's worth it for the Scenery, Vikings, and shouting people off cliffs.

The combat is boring, the characters dull, the quests static and very hit-or-miss. But the pretty northern vistas are beautiful, the viking lore is cool, and the shouts are fun.
