I'm curious about what mods you Escapists like to use with Skyrim. I haven't played the game since around Christmas because I burnt out after putting in 105 hours in just 5 weeks.

I was using a ton of graphics mods - everything from flora overhaul, skyrim HD, better snow, better flames, better embers, hd clothing, hd armor, hd weapons, nicer faces, hd bodies, smooth faces, skyrim night sky, blah blah blah.

As for actual gameplay mods, I liked basically all the ones posted in the 2 Skyrim Mods news articles posted here at The Escapist. Sky UI and the like.

I also tried a couple of crafting mods for black smithing. Allowing me to smelt weapons and armor (and junk I think), added new recipes such as iron+coal=steel. Some tweaks to item improvement as well as adding some new armor and weapons for crafting (although not the unique/epic ones - that was a fail because my Thief's Armor had the enchantments removed)

Ok, so, the point of my long winded post is to ask what mods you guys like. I've seen some stuff on castles, new houses, new magic, new perks, etc and those are the ones I'm interested. Gameplay changers that don't really affect the core of the game.

Thanks!

I am using the same ones as you basically (just updated/re installed a shit ton of graphic/environment overhaul mods) and they all work great, so for now i am happy with that.

the only "gameplay" ones i use are the ones that make lockpicking not super annoying and the one that makes running only use like 1/8th the normal amount of stamina.

otherwise i'm probably going to wait until the creation kit comes out and more mods become NMM compatible for easy install/upgrades...(now that i've used a few mods with it, such as Sky UI, it's just so damn handy and user friendly, i want all mods to use it!)

I think I loaded basically all my mods into NMM (or one of the similar ones). I agree though it's soooo much easier to use that manually trying to install everything and keep track of it. I think there was 1 or 2 that I had to manually install, though.

The only modification I've made to Skyrim is a slight tweak to the .ini file to allow my arrows to remain solid for as long as they can fly (or more accurately, the tweak makes people and animals solid as soon as they are rendered, rather than be incorporeal at long distances), so now if I can see something I can shoot it.

I was getting quite frustrated with my failed sniping attempts when my arrows would pass straight through my target (but still startle it) at anything beyond a medium range.

As for actual proper modifications, I'm going to wait until I've completed one long play-through before making any changes to the vanilla game, that way I can really appreciate the differences and can ensure that any modifications will be made to a more stable, patched version of the game with more stable, Construction Kit developed mods.

Luckily I'm satisfied enough with the vanilla game and all it's craptastic charm to be patient.

there were a few times where it didn't seem to work right with some of the graphic ones on NMM, so unless it specifically states that it's good to go with NMM, i install it manually.

but yeah, it's too damn convenient, especially with how it shows if you have the most up to date version of the mod and it's easy to un install feature.

What are these ones? I can't access the nexus from where I am right now...

Also, patch 1.3 added 4gb "LAA" to Skyrim.

Children killing mod. Because apparently I'm a monster or something for liking to have complete freedom to do what I please, even if it means roleplaying a complete sociopath.

All the ones on the Nexus - Skyrim Total Enhancement Project guide. Just go on the nexus and search for STEP. A good guide, lists the order of install and stuff like that. Think I might have overdone it a bit though and dropped the framerate too low in towns... Looks utterly amazing though...

Weird with graphics innit? Just loaded up Rage and finished it off (awful, shameful ending), thought it looked great when first got it, looks not so good in retrospect.
I've been meaning to try STEP (personally for now i like my own customized jumble of mods), is it really worth all the hubbub or would you say customizing to your own combination of mods is preferred?

"Thu'umMic"

You shout, and the game interprets the correct shout.

I use SkyUi, Deadly Dragons (because the original dragons were FAR from challenging), Midas Magic, Tytanis, Deathstar Moon (because who doesn't love starwars), Realistic water, and High Rest Ultra

I use a few mods. Look for em on skyrimnexus.com.

-Val's Crafting Meltdown: This little number ia a favourite of mine. It allows you ro break down nearly anything into it's base materials, for a reduced return rate. On top of that, with four pieces of firewood, two ingots, and two dozen hawk feathers, you make two dozen arrows of that material. Good stuff, man.

-Black Lightened Alchemy: Makes every potion in the game, except Skooma, weigh 0.1. Including crafted potions. Very useful, since later on,you need lots of potions.

-The Great Book of Alchemy: Allows you to obtain (via console commands only, though) a book,or four, depending on mod version, which catalogues every ingredient in the game,by effect. A VERY handy reference to keep around, and helps speed along the alchemy proccess.

Those three mods are what I use for any character. Stay ahead of the curve, make potions without fear of side-effects,and carry around over three hundred potions. Because, quite frankly, you'll need them.

Ok we have

A Quality World Map (All Roads) you can now see roads in the world map
A Trolling Troll with Trololol (give trolls the trollface and they now song the trololol song instead of roaring)
Better Sorting (perfer this to SkyUI)
Breezehome Enchanting table (self explanitory)
Categorised Favourites Menu
Glowing Ore Veins 300
High Rez Eligible Road Signs (road-signs are now readable)
Lost Art of the Blacksmith (fixes for Smithing 1/3)
Makers Mark Ingots (as seen on the Escapist)
More Vendor Gold (increases the amount of gold shops have as you level up. From 1000 at level 1 to 2500 at level 50 for blacksmiths for example)
Smithing Perks Overhaul (fixes for Smithing 2/3)
Weapons and Aromr Fixes (fixes for Smithing 3/3, all three are recommended together)

I also have a cooking mod so I don't have to rely on potion making.

The gameplay changing or just plane usability mods I'm using right now are:
-Deadly Dragons (Hard with all options on. Makes most enemies far more durable and makes Dragons a nightmare. There is more kinds, they know spells, have higher resistances or outright immunity, massively increased armor, triple health, double damage... Scary stuff)

-A Quality World Map (All roads)
-Sky UI
-Sky Boost
-Wars in Skyrim IV(Golden Age, effectively quadruples random encoutners with factioned enemies I believe. It also allows more then one faction to show up fighting each other in a lot of combinations with some new enemies. Also makes enemies harder I believe, not certain.)
Categorized Favorites Menu (Because that small little list wasn't sufficient for this big a game)

-Tytanis (Though a fairly old version)
-Killable Children (Though not for the killing but because it adds then to the race list for character creation, second character is going to be a child pyromaniac type. That's always fun.)
-No Helmet (Helmets are bad (Looking) and armor is good)

-Thuu'mic (Voice commands are amazing, they have a slight delay but it frees up all of that pausing and hot keying you normally do after picking 2 or 3 shouts to main.
This way you can use any shout you physically know the language for!
Actually learn the dragon language for immersion and eliminate unnecessary menu use at the same time.

-No Shout Cooldown V3 (75% reduced cooldown to go with my increased difficulty mods and voice activated shouts. It makes combat like a sudden death bag of tricks where the words you choose to yell angrily at your screen need to be the right ones to save your life.)

Plus the vanity mods and increased textures and what have you.

My most notable mod I use is a mod which makes every Fus Ro Dah more dramatic. No, not Thu'mic. Every time you do the shout, the music from the trailer plays. It's just hilarious.
