My relatively low opinion of the game compared to the excitement I felt before release is likely due to the fact that my computer sucks and I have a terrible FPS problem.
Pretty much this. My laptop can barely run it, so...

That, and the fact I was far too used to the controls of Oblivion, and, while it's not difficult to change them, having the space bar used for jump rather than activate was a little weird for me. Hooray settings.

Also, WHY IS THE GRAB FUNCTION THE SAME KEY AS THE ACTIVATE FUNCTION? WHY?

Overall, however, I think it's an awesome game. It's so different to Oblivion, as you would expect as it's set 200 years later.

Perfect? God no!

Ui definetly needs some love.

I found the character customization pretty meh. Trying to creat a decent (Read beatiful - I'm not gay) male character is not easy.

-Some- of the finishing moves are not fluid (IMO), like you put a big sword on someones throat in 0,5 seconds and takes another 0,5 to take it out, there doesn't seem to be any resistance.

And other little things.

However, having said that, it's definelty a game I will spent several hours on it.

Um you have a different opinion? Congrats, you don't like something that's popular. That flies for cool on the Escapist.

Totally random: I found this dagger called "Kahvozein's Fang", anyone know what the hell it's all about? It's a quest item but I haven't seen anything relating to it in my 30+ hours. It's five ingots worth of weight and I don't use daggers.

Skyrin is like somebody made you a gargantuan huge burger but forgot to put in the meat..sure it's huge but most of it is just bread.

It's pretty good, but I have found several annoying things so far:

- Arrows, Bows and magic staffs can not be created. You have to steal/buy them. All other weapons can be made at forges.

- Several characters can not be killed, unlike in Fallout for instance. You can attack them, but their health resets after it hits zero and they go off to cry in a corner for ten seconds.
- Children are completely untouchable.

- You can not skip the intro and go directly to the character creation screen, nor can you skip the tutorial.

- Headgear (hats, hoods, helmets, etc) are not adapted for argonians. You can have ten or so half-foot spikes stiking out of your head but they'll be gone the moment you put on that metal helmet you like so much.

- Towns and cities seem very small. Their are usually more guards than houses. (minor annoyance)

- Stolen horses will return home the moment you dismount, even if you murdered their masters. Like some sort of retarded boomerang.

That's it so far... It is way better than oblivion though, and I haven't found any mayor bugs yet(only 1 or 2 bugs in total so far). So that's cool.

Well it still isn't as good as morrowind. Definite improvement of Oblivion though. No f*cking bandits with daedra armor.

UI is horrid though I must say, never seen worse UI before.

Skyrim is my first foray into the genera of Fantasy RPG that is not Fable II, or III so I'm relatively unbiased because I have nothing similar al la Morrowind, Oblivion, etc... to judge it by. I will say that I'm not usually into the whole fantasy thing. I'm more of a sci-fi person. I prefer to be blasting around the galaxy to stomping around a dungeon trying to find the magical mystical McGuffin.
Also I am not very far in to the game, I've only just returned from finding my first magical McGuffin (oh all right it was a Dragonstone). So having said that these are my impressions so far. Oh I'm playing the X-Box 360 version btw.

- Skyrim is beautiful. I love the way i can be walking along a track and see a deer grazing and as I get closer it gets spooked and bounds off into the brush. The trees and plants all look lifelike and it's a very impressive looking world that does well to convey an sense of epic scale.

- The quests I have done so far seem quite standard, i.e. go here and get this, go speak to this guy, or give this to that dude. This may be because I have not got very far into the story however.

- The combat is, well I'm not sure really, I like the way I can have a fire spell in one hand and a shield in the other. But I'm not sure about the swords, maybe it's just me but I have a hard time telling how close i need to get for my sword to connect with my target.

- The menu is in parts fantastic and in others quite bland. The world map is wonderful and very beautiful. The ability to see the whole world map from the get go really brings home how big the place is, also the detail in the rendering of the mountains and valleys makes you feel almost as if you are seeing the world through the eyes of an eagle.
The skills and level up menu is also wonderful with all it's constellations and colour. However the weapons and magic menus feel spartan and dull. Why couldn't they make them a bit more engaging visually like the other two? Considering that I will likely be spending a fair amount of time in them over the duration of the game I feel this is a bit of an oversight.

- NPC animations are very limited during dialogue. The game suffers from what i shall call 'Fallout NPC paralysis' Is it too much to ask if when an NPC is espousing a heartfelt diatribe on something or the other that he/she be allowed to use a few gestures and to move around a little? Do they all have to stand still with there hands glued to there side?
Countering this little niggle though is the voice acting which is generally very good.

- The HUD is awful looking and rather jarringly boring. Blue, red, and green bars that appear along the bottom of the screen? Oh come now, why cant we have a more interesting looking HUD? Also I want to know how much health I really have not just 'about three quarters-ish of a full bar'.

Eeks this is turning into a bit of a wall'o'text so I shall stop here.

I think it's absolutely amazing. I was calling it the game of the console generation before it came out and it absolutely shattered my expectations. It's definitely the game of the decade.

Sword combat isn't fantastic, except for the finishing moves.
Thankfully, being a stealth archer is really fun this time around, so that's the play style I've adopted.
It really has been an amazing game (so far).

At roughly 14:00 today I calculated that 52% of the time that had passed since I first started the game has been spent playing Skyrim. 52%. Bloody hell. Then again, I'm not all that surprised, since besides cooking, some sleeping and a quick trip to the nearby store, Skyrim was all I did this weekend.
So, yeah, I think it's great. :]

I don't like the fact that sometimes the menus lock up when I'm navigating them. A small issue though as it's normally resolved by closing then re-opening that menu but still, it's an issue.

Too many dragons. These were supposed to be rare but I've had 6 dragon attacks in the past 24 hours of play. They're still awesome spectacles though, even more so when one swoops over your head. Although they are easy to kill, although that might be because I'm only on my...fourth story mission, I think. Got distracted by side-quests.

Er...it didn't load that one grass patch for about 5 seconds?

That's all I can really find fault with at the moment, 25 hours in.

I have found a total of one quest-breaking bug. And that quest wasn't even all THAT interesting, so...

I think its fantastic, the main story was a bit too short but it was entertaining and any flaws it has are more than made up for by the sheer amount of stuff to do. Plus it runs surprisingly bug-free considering it has been made by Bethesda.
