I was casually wandering along a river side, when I hear a raw up above me. Pulling up my bow I scanned the sky behind me looking for the dragon only to turn back round just as it thumped to the ground beside me. I was like level 5 so I turned my ass around and fled, it's frost breath on my heels. I thought I was going to die when around the corner came a guard patrol who immediately rushed the dragon. I took the opportunity to hide behind a rock and heal myself in the most hero like fashion I could whilst the guards agrod the dragon. I then spent the next five minutes diving from rock to rock avoiding the ice breath and shooting the dragon out of the sky so the guards could attack it. Gradually the guards died one by one, until it was just me facing down the injured dragon. By this point its wing were crippled so I fired up both my hands and blasted it. However I ran out of mana before it ran out of life and ended up diving off of a massive cliff into the river below, it followed me down bashing its head on one of the outcrops taking away the last chunk of life it had.

This was unscripted, how something that has this as a random event be over hyped?

In though MW3 was overhyped and only delivered what I knew it was going to deliver anyway, but that didn't stop it being the best seller of all time and stuff :p

Christ, this thread trolled a lot of people. The OP hasn't responded once, just left everyone to shout at each other and post pictures of Crysis.

Yes. Very much so. It's Oblivion with better graphics and better magic combat. Nothing else is really improved IMO.
But what about the larger repertoire of actors? The more detailed and individual settlements? The sprint button?

I dint like it... Dont get me worng i play it and found it decent but noffing special. Its overhyped in my opinon.

And before you sods out there start russing trypeing things like

''Dont juge the game before the 20 hour mark'' or somting like that its worth rembering that i can in 3 hours playing somting like Castlevaina OOC and enyoing my self vile i play skyrim for 3 hoursand found it lacking

Am i the only one who see that this game is burtalishly OverHyped?
I love Skyrim, I think it's fun as hell, and I had a pretty good idea it was going to be good before I got it.

However, I wasn't pissing my pants waiting to get it. All games are overhyped, and Skyrim is no exception.

Also, if you don't like it, you don't like it. The only person it could possibly hurt is you, for losing $60. Even then, you could probably return it if you wanted to lol xD

I don't see the point of people being mad that the audience for a game they like is not "the entire world."

If you did't like Skyrim, well, what can I say, you are a person who hates RPG's then. I bid you farewell, and may our paths never cross on these forums.
I love RPG's and even I can say that Skyrim is both over-rated and was over-hyped. Not to say it's terrible, it's still pretty fun. Just immensely underwhelming.

Not a chance....

If Skyrim was a woman i'd be leaving my wife and it would be having my babies.

If I was a woman i'd be having Skyrims babies.

I have no idea where these bugs are I keep hearing about, i've not encountered any.

Graphics look great on my PC, Controls are smooth enough and easy to use (I love you, favourites button), the UI is a lot better than Oblivions (only a compass on the screen so it's less intrusive as well), the quests are better (still some mundane ones but i've been going for over 30 hours on side quests alone i've barely scratched the main quest line).

I only have 2 issues 1 with the horses and 1 with crafting.

The horses just seem .... slower, to me. I think i'll have to mod myself in a new faster mount at some point.

The upgrades on weapons and gear don't make them look any better. They have the same look no matter if the are basic or exquisite ... makes no sense.
One of the loading screen tips said that the horses of Skyrim made up for their lack of speed with endurance. So I guess they're supposed to be slower?
I've also spend close to 30 hours on side quests, mainly the Dark Brotherhood and the Theives Guild. ohh, how I love it.
Also, I'm a friggin werewolf!!

Wow. This is just sad. I think you people need to calm down. I've already explained my first post, and it seems I need to explain a bit more. I am not a raging child. I am an 18-year-old High School Graduate with a 3.7 GPA. IRookieI, my grammar is a hell of a lot better than yours. Also, I was not talking to you, so you had no reason to respond other than the fact that you're a complete troll. Take a look at some of the other forums. There are people who have said much worse things, and yet you're all calling me out? Just sad. I can post whatever I please. It's not a crime to put several exclamation marks together. And I have heard of paragraphs. But if I'm simply ranting on a forum, I do not feel the need to use them. A rant is a continuous stream of words and ideas and does not need to be structured correctly. I already went back and corrected my mistakes, yet you called them out for no reason. But I think I'm going to stop soon, seeing as this may "offend" you more than it already has. This is a website. It has almost no affect on the real world, meaning I have no fear of being reported. And I find it ridiculous that I could be banned for speaking my mind. So, if it will calm you down, "I'm sorry." Now stop calling me out and talk about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
But see? There is your problem, you weren't talking about Skyrim either or responding to OP's post. You just attacked his grammar and added fuck all to the discussion other than the fact that you know how to use grammar, which is an ad hominem logical fallacy (some people can be just as smart, if not smarter than you, even on the internet. So watch out when you try to act like a genius). Congratulations but it really isn't that impressive. I would have been more impressed if you put together a coherent post about why you don't think Skyrim was overhyped, you know, the kind of discussion the OP was trying to initiate. Now I just think you're a douche, which is what most people will think too. Be a little more respectful and always, always, ALWAYS! Address the topic.

OT: I haven't gotten the game yet because I'm a poor college kid so I'll be waiting a while unfortunately until I start working over break... But I fully expect to be blown away, which I guess is getting hyped, but then again I felt that way since they announced that Skyrim was even a thing.

P.S. You're only here at the pleasure of the mods and community and if you aren't respectful of the community then you don't belong here.

I think Skyrim is crap. I loved Fallout 3, and this is more or less the same engine and play style, but this fantasy crap just ruins the game for me. However, this game has more fanboys than Call of Duty, and they are far more rabid. I hope you donned a flame-resistant suit prior to writing your post.
The game isn't crap. You just don't like fantasy. I don't see what you're getting at. That's like saying the Discworld series is crap because you don't like the color purplish-green.

For me , Skyrim took the "hype" , kicked it in the balls , hit it with a showel, ran it over with a truck and then pissed on it's face.

.....

It sure did beat the hype..

I'm loving this game and I really don't care about what others say ( especially when so many people are hating on a popular game just to be on the other side of the fence, where the "cool" people are )

Wow, everybody needs to chill out and feel the love a bit here.

OP: yes, the grammar was really poor, but (and this coming from a total spelling, punctuation and grammar Nazi) it's not the end of the world. The post was intelligible and therefore the OP got his or her point across.

Secondly, I think the OP did raise a valid point. The fanboy threads, and the constant ads, really made me get over my excitement for this literally weeks before its release. Consequently, despite being an RPG fan, I have not bought the game, and am instead happily toddling around Arkham City.

Also, can we nip this "if you hate Skyrim you hate all RPGs" thing in the bud right now? I love RPGs- hell, I even play tabletop D&D and customise my own figures- but I've been growing weary of the Elder Scrolls series myself. The static NPCs is a real immersion issue for a start, and according to the review on this very website that hasn't changed. Also, just as a general point, isn't the pseudo-medieval-England setting getting a bit freakin' old now? I mean, there are a million and one historical settings that a magical lore (and maybe even technology!) could be woven into, and it just feels really bizarre that the vast majority of the Western RPG franchises are still slavishly trying to ape Tolkien's world. What happened to the rich cultural legacies of Greece, Egypt and Central Africa (to name but 3)? Don't they get to be used as RPG inspiration?

To stop you people bringing up the arguement I was in earlier, I have changed all my related posts to "I've removed this comment." Now please leave me alone and talk about the game. I'll start......here.....now.......yeah....

I've only played about 2 minutes of this game at my boyfriends house, but it was AWESOME! I have been a huge fan of The Elder Scrolls, and have all four other games (Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion) on my computer still! I really want to watch some of the videos on youtube like the Let's Play or funny moments and such.

But NO! I will wait until Christmas to play it. I don't really consider spending 2 minutes misjudging my bf character's health, being eaten by wolves, or roasted by dragons to constitute as having played the game. But I'm confident I will love it to death!

I do not thing it has been OverHyped. I think it deserves all the praise it has gotten and then some. Let's just say, once I get this game, I will never leave my room again.

EVER!!!

Oh yes, it is most definitely overhyped. Bethesda is as Peter Molyneux as you can get without actually involving Peter Molyneux.

Their trailers = Overglorified parades of orchestral bands and banner squires.
Their actual products = Roach motel-level of bugs and shit AI. Gameplay and plot vary between each.

Cant say i noticed its pre-launch hype. But theres bound to be a "awesome" effect when you put Vikings and Dragons into a game. :)

But it definitly deserved the post-launch hype it got. I didn't think they would be able to make me feel like i felt when playing Morrowind for the first time.. The freedom. The awesome sights. The lore and the world. Epic.

Though they could have done a little more work on the companions.. They are too silent, and dont have any story, quest or personality.

I don't know about anyone else, but I keep forgetting that dragons can pop-up (or down as it were) at any moment, thereby causing me much surprise/terror every time I hear them and momentarily think "What the crap was that?" This somehow makes it consistently fun, as I'm not always on edge about dragons. I get relaxed. Content. Then BAMWTFFIREBALLINMYFACE.

Not sure if anyone's replied but I'ma do it anyway. Horses in Skyrim are meant to be slower (as a loading screen once told me) but apparently balance it out with more endurance. I can't say since I still haven't ridden a horse (20+ hours of gameplay and no horse? I know right), but loading screens have never lied to me before.

Lastly, I have nothing to say on the actual topic. I just felt left out.

In my opinion, Skyrim is fantastic. To be honest, I hated Oblivion; it was clunky, the entire land was just one flat fast travel map, there were so many skills you had no idea what to pick, so many spells when you only used about 3, over complicated weapons system, and a main quest that was nearly impossible to follow. In addition, I found the setting to be just a bit too... well, medieval. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Medieval setting, but it just was way too much for me.

Friday morning, I met up with a friend of mine, a hard core Elder Scrolls fan, to try it out. 3 hours later I was at GameStop getting my own copy. Skyrim mixes a tight and tuned interface with a handful of useful, unique spells, an incredible story, and scenery and environmental actions that will blow you away. To me, Skyrim is the Dungeons and Dragons version of Bioshock.

While the "shit" aspect may be a little harsh, I can't say you're wrong. The Elder Scrolls series has had a lot of trouble with AI, from stopping a fight to have a nice chat to getting stuck in a wall.

But I'm not sure it's really the AI in Bethesda games in general. And the Peter Molyneux thing....Did you just quote Yahtzee? I did once, and only once. I suggest you do the same because no one is going to want to here people quote a man who says mean things for a living. Not a threat or anything, just a helpful suggestion.

Also, I found their trailers to have just enough glory to border on the FANTASTIC!!!

I saw the loading screen but it still feels ... wrong ... when i'm riding.

I did the Dark Brotherhood chain and got Shadowmere (I missed that horse, he was my favourite in Oblivion, it's nice to get him back) and he goes really slowly.

I mean, these buggers are so slow if they went any slower they would be going in reverse.

It's all well and good replacing speed with stamina but I shit you not, your character outruns the horses. All mobs outrun the horses. I used it a couple of times and haven't bothered since. It's faster on foot with stamina potions.

Seriously, buy a horse or wait until you get one then tell me they don't feel *slow and clunky*.

They look better than the ones in Oblivion when riding but feel like they have 3 broken logs and are hopping along on their last good one.

Thats one of my only complaints with the game though, everything else has been amazing.

I think I've managed to translate his dialect. I will respond to his concerns as I have interpreted them

Seriously, dude? Of COURSE it's overhyped. That's part of the fun for us Elder Scrolls fanboys. We just spent the last week solid with 20 new skyrim threads a day, and it was called the second coming of christ at LEAST once per thread. If you believe the hype, you haven't learned yet. You gotta just have fun with it.

And really, you need to learn to type. That was way too difficult to read

Wait...are you telling me that the loading screen lied? It'll rue the day!

But yeah, from videos I've seen of them they did look a bit sluggish, but I had assumed that they'd actually "feel" faster than they looked. A shame to know they don't (didn't know that Shadowmere was back in it though. I guess we can put his slowness down to being 200+ years old).

Guess I'll stick to foot-slugging like a trooper.
