Skyrim truly looks outdated and average

The game's 3 months away, this is probably footage from a late alpha or early beta build. So relax, and reserve your judgement for when the full game comes out.

I agree somewhat. The enemies just don't react to things like they should. If they at least staggered a bit rather than just opening a bag of red dye and ignoring you, it would look better.

However, I've pre-ordered it, and it still looks like a fantastic game.

I don't really care. I have always liked the Elder Scrolls games and I am sure I will enjoy this too. Also you should probably take note that some of these issues might change before the game is released and if you are really that worried just wait for a few weeks and the modding community will have sorted it all out.

You could say exactly the same thing with Fallout NV but we still saw and had some major bugs and still some bad gameplay now didn't we?

I think you're just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking. Here's what I want you to do. You go and find me a game as big as Skyrim that is completely bug free with perfect AI, you go do that for me and I will gladly call out bethesda on this.

Also considering this is just the demo shown at E3 Bethesda have had plenty of time to smooth out the AI since then, so I don't think I have anything to worry about. Even if the AI is still not that great, I don't play the Elder Scrolls games for the AI, if I can love Morrowind as much as I do (and look at the AI on that) I think I'll be just fine with Skyrim.

And seeing a lot of the posts in this thread, it makes me laugh at how many people don't realise how old this footage of the game is.

Obsidian made Fallout Vegas not Bethesda. :/ So no we can't say exactly the same thing.

These are some of the pettiest complaints I've ever heard.

He smashes through, then stands still for two seconds, also perplexed by the wall in front of him, perhaps the AI is so smart that it is amazed by the visuals you say? I think not.
He just came back from the dead and popped out of his coffin. Maybe he needs a second or two to wake up...

Not only does this skeletal chap have a stupid AI system working against his favour, but he also appears to be some kind of ghost or spirit, the player slashes and stabs with his blade and the guy doesn't seem to move or react at all to this.
Uh, he's an undead zombie. I doubt pain is a big deterrent for him.

not rotating, not flipping, not even cursing the dragon as he is pulled by the unrealistic gravity of the oh so wonderful Bethesda's Creation engine, another enemy lost in the midst of Bethesda's bugs.
He does rotate and flip... the angle the dragon chucks him at is just not very condusive to extensive ragdolling. I saw an hour long demo at Gamescom - trust me, there are ragdoll physics.

The game looks great in terms of gameplay but I think the graphics are a little ugly (possibly due to early build or console its running on) And I would really hope for a nicer looking new UI

Point taken, TS, now...

Point me to the nearest immersive, open-world, first-person fantasy adventure game that does all this RIGHT and I'll gladly call Bethesda out on these issues.

I was going to say Borderlands until I saw you typed fantasy. However, the point still stands, that in my opinion Borderlands is awesome and I would much prefer to play it than any Fallout or Elder Scrolls game.

ehh I wish I could get excited, anyway I feel this is a bit nitpicky, though it does make me wonder what could have been if they plished things up a bit (NV though I know that wastn beshdesa)

speaking of which Im thinking of getting NV for PS3 (patch...definetly) and replaying just for the DLC....but there are parts of that game Ive felt like i played over...and over...and over..and over...the very Idea drives me insane..that game is HUGE

Well it depends on the comparison, it is no 4 hour movie plus quick time events, but it surely is the best of the TES series.
Or to put it like this, they had about the same amount of time then any other triple A game to develop this yet their world is huge, so you can't expect every single piece to be perfect.

Can you please use spell check or something? Your posts are confusing to read, some words I have to look at them for a couple of seconds to know what they are.

OT: The game doesn't look very impressive at the moment, but not for the reasons the OP mentioned, but for many other reasons. For one, Bethesda seem to be marketing everything like it's revolutionary...

...maybe for the Elder Scrolls series, but a lot of the stuff is just average and nothing special.

And what's with all the dragon hype?

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure dragons have been in video games before, even in the Elder Scrolls series.

The combat just killed it for me.
You can't block attacks with a sword.

So my plan of a dual dagger wielding rogue are not so good looking now.

A game shouldn't be in early beta 3 months away. It should be close to going gold. It takes a long time to get a game ready for distribution, so if it is still in a late alpha or early beta, then Skyrim is going to get delayed.

Morrowind will still be better.

I am saddened that so many of you will accept less than near perfection from this now obviously flawed developer.
I've been thinking the same thing for months.

Skyrim just seems... Mediocre.
'Unimproved' if you're honest, 'Lazy' if you're blunt, and 'Classic' if you're kind.

Dragon Age: Origins came out and the graphics weren't up to date, but the game was great.

Also, this was from E3, I knew what was happening almost the entire time because they took sections of it to create gameplay trailers and other things. Most likely, the game is improved by now, and it still has another two months before release.

No game is without something that someone will complain about. I'll just buy the game and enjoy it for what it is.

If you have to block incoming melee attacks on your rogue, then i can say you are doing it wrong.

But, on topic, i will buy it. I started at the beginning with Arena.

It looks more fluid than Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and a million times more fluid than Oblivion. Maybe people have forgotten, but Oblvion was fucking ugly. Stiff animations, horribly uncanny faces. Skyrim is bringing the character models and animations to a respectable level. It's not high end stuff, but it's a huge open world RPG. They've done an admirable job from what I can see, the world and its inhabitants feel more solid, and the lighting effects in particular are hugely improved.
