The only thing sad about this is the fact that people still watch G4. The network is such a joke.

OT: Skyward Sword felt too "samey" for lack of a better work. It just has the mentality that I've already done that several times. Still haven't finished because I get bored so quickly when playing it. Skyrim on the other hand has me hooked, haven't been so into a game since Mass Effect 2.

Well yes, exactly.

It can be "Nintendo's Game of the year" but not the game of the year.

Or we stop all this commerical bullsh*t and start making only plattform relevant awards. Because if I never going to experience Skyward Sword (because the Wii just isn't my type of console) I can never support Skyward Sword as "best" Game of the year.

I love how if you look at the comments in the final vote all the Skyrim fans are crying bloody murder because Skyward Sword beat it. Some things you'll see: calling all people who voted for Zelda "little girls and gay faggots", encouraging everyone who likes Skyrim to vote for Assassin's Creed just so Skyward Sword doesn't win, claiming that Skyward Sword only one because everyone who voted made 6-7 different accounts just to vote, saying "If they see anyone playing that shit Zelda game then I'm gonna go Dark Brotherhood on their ass", and various other vulgar things.

Yep, I'd say that the game rated mature definitely has the more mature fan-base of the two on G4...

OT: Skyward Sword is not only my GotY, but my new favorite game of all time, so it pleases me greatly to see it in the finals at least. I don't care whatsoever for G4, but I'm glad that Skyward Sword is at least getting some recognition it deserves instead of being completely bulldozed over by everyone obsessing over Skyrim.

The results are in, Skyward Sword has beaten Skyrim. And speaking as someone who has not bought a Wii game in a year since getting an xbox 360, I have one thing to say. "Good job." Rattle on about how unoriginal Nintendo is, but in reality Skyrim is part of a long running series too, and if more people liked Skyward Sword instead of Skyrim, then they won fair and square. It was close anyway, 51% to 49%. Well played Nintendo, I may have left you but I can see that you presence over the decades has not faltered. Let's see if you can take it all the way, Assassin's creed is all that stands between them and the title of Game of the Year.

P.S. Skyrim has a bunch of problems anyway, it's fun VERY fun, but far from perfection. Don't get me wrong though I still give it a double thumbs up.
I would completely agree with this....

If Skyward Sword's controls weren't utter ass. The motion control is garbage and uncomfortable, and not nearly as precise as it should be. I can see what they were going for, and it's an admirable attempt, but it still falls short.

Fair enough.
I've never cared so much about game awards either way = \

as far as the wii system goes, Ill admit Im a little disappointed in it overall but there are a few really good games that might make it worth it's current price.

I personally disagree. There has rarely been a moment in which the controls didn't exactly do what I wanted it to. Aside from the occasional centering, it worked very well. Sure it wasn't always perfect, but I have not yet played a single WM+ game that did motion controls as well as Skyward Sword.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Skyward Sword fanboy. It's not nearly one of my most favorite Zelda games and it probably isn't even my GotY. I also believe it to have its fair share of flaws (such as ridiculously low difficulty, extremely linear and its repetitiveness and lack of originality), but its problem isn't its controls IMO...

OT: Don't really care. Good for them. Both of them have their fair share of annoying fanboys and both games have their fair share of flaws, so I'm not going to attack one side or the other.

Skyrim versus Skyward Sword, that's fair, it seems. Different community, different results. Revelations beating Saints row, and[/i] Dead Space 2 beating Infamous 2? I call mistrial. Gears of War over Deus Ex? Ha! Not freakin' likely.

It took me 20+ minutes to do the Loftwing tutorial race thing and then another 20 minutes to land in the bloody circle after Zelda threw me off the statue. And let's not forget the 25 minutes to get through the first stage of the first temple's boss because it didn't register my directional attacks properly.

I thoroughly enjoy most of the rest of the game, and I'd be content with saying it's my favorite Zelda game yet if I could just use a bloody Gamecube controller for it.

Meh. I tend to give as much weight to gaming awards as I do the opinion of the general gaming populous.

Which is to say, exceedingly little.

What? Are you sure it's not something else? Perhaps your Wii Motion plus is malfunctioning or something. The Loftwing tutorial merely took me two minutes to adjust to and I hit the middle of the circle within my first try. And I'm pretty bad at motion controls, so I honestly can't imagine why these simple things would cost you this much time.

What happened to you sounds fairly annoying and I understand you hating the controls for this, but as far as I know, this isn't something common or normal.

Shouldn't a mod lock this? There are already flame wars, hell, I'd call them great, firey conflagrations, and one guys been suspended.

OT: Erm... I don't really care about G4, and I like Skyrim a bit more than I like Skyward Sword. Just a bit. They're both great games, so who really cares what an internet poll has to say? Big deal, some people like a game more than another. Whoop-de-doo.

ugh seeing Assassin's Creed do well makes me a little upset. I haven't played revelations yet but I played 1, 2, and most of brotherhood. You would think after 3 games they would stop doing all the wrong things with it but instead we still get boring, repetitive side missions and gimmicks like da Vinci's flying machine. Also we jumped from the crusades to the Renaissance which was awesome but then we spend 3 freaking games there? seriously? shake things up a bit ubisoft. also aliens? that's the twist you wanted to go with? it's like they watched indiana jones 5 and thought "what a great idea."

It's possible my WM+ is on the fritz, it is relatively old. I haven't hardly used it though. I'm not sure what's going on, but I do know it's been an exercise in frustration because it requires relatively large changes in pitch to actually register movements.

I'm not really a fan of G4 either (not anymore at least), but this was voted by users. I did think it was cool that during the voting period, they both traded positions quite a bit, usually between 49 and 51%. Just shows that both games have many fans and rightfully so. I haven't played Skyrim yet (I plan to), but Skyward Sword has become my new favorite game, so congrats to it.

1: G4. Stopped right there.
2: Seriously? A thread like this, on one of the most Nintendo-hating sites on the internet?
3: Ok, I'll bite:

I do appreciate Skyrim's ambition and depth. I do think it's a marvel of a game. And I'm also personally glad a game like it beat out games like Battlefield 3 and Homefront, being able to challenge CoD by just being itself, and doing many of the practices in gaming we should be actively encouraging, many practices that Skyward Sword also does.

I also think Skyward Sword (and a couple of other titles that came out this year, for that matter, but Skyward Sword most of all) deserve the title of "Game of the Year" more. I'm not going to say it's objectively better, but I do think there are plenty of points in its favor. I could go on a long-winded discussion (too late...), but I know that would be a waste of time here. I repeat: one of the most Nintendo-hating sites on the internet. Plus, discussions with skyrim fans are comparable to discussion with CoD fans, as in, comparable to a conversation with a vulgar brick wall.

Also, I read some of the comments... Aren't skyrim fans such pleasant folks?

I don't see why we need threads like this yeah skyward sword got a whole 2 percent higher than skyrim, waah! how old are these people.

I am a skyrim fan but I have enjoyed many Zelda games as well. I consider myself a bethesda fan but some of the people I see posting who are fan make me embarrassed to be so. And the same can be said for zelda, come on people grow up.

On a side note G4 is laughable anyway. Its sad really they started off fairly well but some years they just went to shit.

I'm seconding the notion that its a problem with your controller. I only have problem with one gesture: The one where you point your sword into the air and then shoot light out of it when you swing. Everything else has been smooth.

People even pay attention to G4? Who even cares about television anymore? Cable TV has never been a friend of the gamer. And certainly G4 has never striked me as an important part of the gaming world. How many people even respect G4 in the gaming community? Every time I hear them brought up, I see people bashing G4 as some kind of poseur, "hey can I be one of the game kids too?" thing. And talking about how annoying they find Morgan Webb and Adam Sessler. I dare say that IGN is at least three times as an important part of the gaming world as G4. And just look at their forum, it's almost entirely empty. You can say what you want about IGN, Gamefaqs, 1up, and even the Escapist here, but we're all much huger than G4. Teevee shmeevee.

With that being said, I'm happy that Skyward Sword won. I only knew about this event at all because someone here made a thread that got locked asking for Skyrim to win. I was too late to vote, but luckily my vote wasn't required for Skyward Sword to win. I did get a chance however to vote Skyward Sword in the final round, not that I think it'll need it.

Even if just G4, I'm for anything that helps further establish Skyward Sword as a masterpiece in the eyes of the gaming world. Just like Okami, for all the praise it gets, if anything, it deserves more. And I like how this supplants the biases of the G4 website against Nintendo games. They gave Skyward Sword a lower rating than Skyrim and their immediate fanbase that actually exists generally does agree with them. Meaning a bias against Nintendo games definitely seems to be prevalent there. So to see the 4/5 rated game beat a 5/5 rated game by them is a victory in it's own.

I have to say, I respect Morgan Webb and Adam Sessler about as much as I respect Yahtzee. That is, I don't much respect them at all. As do I not harbor much respect for G4 at all. So it's kind of good to see them a bit supplanted by fans for a change.

And my goodness, the Skyrim fans over there in the comment sections are severely reducing my opinion of the Elder Scrolls fanbase.

I agree. That was a disappointing vote. As much as Human Revolution wasn't quite my cup o' tea. I have a lot more respect for Deus Ex in general than Gears of War. Deus Ex tackles the fascinating issue of transhumanism and has a lot more depth put into it than Gears of War.
