Hey yalls, I just bought Assassin's Creed 1(greatest hits, cheap cheap$) and I'm wondering if anyone else had the feeling it was a really slow start at the beginning of the game. The whole tutorial stuff was really hard to grasp at first and even farther in the game I don't seem to understand exact how I control Altair in free-running. Also that loading part where Altair(you) are standing alone in the white foggy area and it kept flashing white every other second was a REALLY REALLY annoy eyesore mentally and physically.

I also almost quit playing because of the terrible voice actor of Altair too.

Assassin's Creed 1 wasn't the best game of the series, but a lot of the problems in it were fixed in Assassin's Creed 2.

Its terribly fucking slow to me in the beginning but it got better for me as I unlocked a couple of new items.

Just give it some time and finish it, its worth it.

I forgot about that 'walk through the random crowd of pot-carrying women' and not having anything explained to you thing.

it really isn't the best assassin's creed. i would never recommend anyone to buy it, you'd be better just learning the story on the internet and playing assassin's creed 2.

You need a comma there, so the correct grammar would be...

I'm pretty, free-running consists of hold A,X, or Spacebar, and pushing forward (or W).

Oddly vain, but i can dig it,

I agree about the voice actor for Altair - I don't know what they were thinking putting an American accent in the 12th Century Holy Land. Wouldn't hurt if he emoted every now and again, either. That guy is as bland as hell...

On the other hand, if you're able to master the controls (and I mean *totally* master them), it will stand you in good stead for "2" and "Brotherhood". Assuming you don't give up on the franchise altogether!

Out of interest, how far are you through the game? Its possible that the game is yet to hit its stride.

Yeah, I agree. You want some advice to get the most fun out of the game, though? Plan each assassination properly. Do lots of the research missions, look at the area where you're going to be, plan your attack and escape. And most importantly - if you get caught during an assassination, let yourself die and try again. It will let you continue and just swordfight your way to victory, but don't. Seriously, the game doesn't make much effort to persuade you to play it stealthily, but doing so is far, far more fun and rewarding than just playing it like an action game.

So yeah, if nothing else, die and retry on the assassinations if you're caught. It makes the game 10 times more enjoyable.

The first Assassin's Creed was pretty painful for me in the beginning, and the controls do take getting used to. The whole research part really is needed to get each assassination done right without getting murdered everytime. It really does get fun after you get the controls down and giving the guards the finger when you know a really good route to escape is totally worth it. The best part is once you nail down everything in the first game, AC 2 and Brotherhood will became much easier and will become second nature to you.

The first Assassin's Creed is definitely my least favorite of the series, but I really enjoyed it when it came out. Unfortunately, trying to go back and play it now after the newer games have undergone so many improvements can be tough.

Damn you! I could've gone on ignorant of my post, but alas.... I'll fix it.

I just finished the first assassination and I do enjoy it much more now. Its just the way it starts off with the plot and the terrible explanation of the tutorials got me completely lost. I think about when Zero Punctuation reviewed this game and Yatzee talked about how the guards freak out when you ride past them on your horse, completely true, completely a pain in the arse. But the side missions are very fun, and I complete all of them before I do the assassination.

Stick with it as long as you can. There's no way I'd be able to play Assassin's creed again after playing 2 and Brotherhood. Those two are just leaps and bounds better. Playing the first game was a chore when I did it.

I played Assassins Creed 2 first, and while not knowing anything about the series, I had a great time. Many people say they liked the story and character of the first game more than Ezio, and I know I'm a hypocrite for saying this, but with Brotherhood out I find that hard to believe.

I expect that once you finish Ass Creed 1, you will reap the rewards and upgrades with #2.

Eh. You're probably better off. I started with 2 and grew to loath it over the course of gameplay. It just kept stacking the annoyances.

Idk, I found the gameplay to be a good lead in for the series, but more importantly go hand in hand with the serious philosophy that the game ponders about. I like it because it seems to raise the most philosophical questions of all the games so far, which is something that I hope gets picked up on in the next game.
